Salem Massachusetts, in the manner of John Chipman(b. 1746-1819) It features solid Cuban Mahogany case, each side crafted of a single solid plank, through-dovetailed at the top and dovetailed at the bottom. The slant front lid features an original keyhole escutcheon over what appears to be the original brass lock, falling onto arms that slide out with brass knobs- one original, the left one replaced. The open writing surface is clean, with what appear to be two original brass hinges, though curious patching is noted below flaking each hinge. Above the writing surface is a collection of nine small drawers, the centermost shell carved, each with brass knobs, below which a gallery of six pigeon holes rest in perfect symmetry. The case has four graduated drawers. Each of which feature period bail pull brass hardware flanking a replaced lock with original brass keyhole escutcheon. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the front dovetails hidden behind applied cockbead molding. The drawers are yellow pine secondaries, the bottom being deeply chamfered along the perimeter to rabbet into the frame. They slide easily in and out of the case over replaced drawer runners, the drawer dividers running into the sides behind a mahogany facade, effectively hiding what are probably dovetail joints. The back of the case has all original backboards, though many nails are replaced. The molded apron features a carved shell drop down medallion in the center that mirrors the design of the middle drawer. The case rests over scroll cut bracket feet, each with an incredible flowing design in the manner of John Chipman. We do not believe the desk was executed in the shop of John Chipman. As his cases will typically feature exposed dovetail drawer dividers in the Newport manner, and the pidgeon-hole gallery will regularly featur

The desk features ... morea gorgeous original finish and period hardware. There are four graduated drawers over flared french feet and shaped skirt. The drawer fronts have book-matched crotch mahogany veneers and cockbeading. The fitted interior(sorry for the dust) has burl walnut veneers, ebonized pulls and boxwood stringing. The interior cupboard door opens to reveal a drawer with a secret drawer behind. See photo) The desk measures 44" high by 39 1/2" wide by 20" deep. In overall very good condition. There is some minor loss to the veneer on the feet which we will restore for you. The desk lid is cupped which makes the desk impossible to lock properly though we do have a key. I don't think we want to try to address this particular issue but please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. There is also some cracking of the veneer on the lid but it is all stable, nothing loose. The desk has great color and patination and is guaranteed to be as described. For your consideration is a Mission Style mahogany slant front writing desk made by Novelty Wood Works(1897-1912) in Union City. PA. The desk is 30.25" wide, 37" high, and 14.5" deep(from drawer) When opened, the writing surface is 27.5" from the floor. It features original brass hardware, a single pull-out drawer beneath the desk, and six compartments inside to store letter, bills, etc. I estimate the age of this piece to be approximately 110 years. It is in good to very good condition as indicated in the Condition description. There are some light scratches and cup marks as pictured. There is no reserve on this really beautiful antique walnut slant front drop lid secretary desk with bookcase top. The bookcase top has 2 shelves above the base of it. The desk is 80 inches tall. 39 inches wide, 17 inches deep. There are 2 dove tailed drawers at the writing surface level, one on either side of the 8 divided storage sections. The writing surface is in good condition. When the drop is open it is supported by 2 wooden boards that pull out under it. When the drop is closed, you can access 1 long dove tailed drawer and below the drawer 2 doors open to a base with 1 shelf in it. All the brass hardware is original and in good condition except a repaired handle on the left side of the bottom of the base. Excellent condition. Buyer must arrange and pay for pick up and delivery.

I took this apart, striped part of the old finish off, re-assembled, all joints have been newly glued with nails or screws. This has a new Minwax Polyurethane Superior Durability Clear Satin(two coats) finish. This still looks Antique.

ANTIQUE SLANT TOP SECRETARY DESK DROP LEAF STYLE SERPENTINE SHAPE FRONT BALL& CLAW FEET This is from the 1940s. It is sturdy. Made of solid wood- some or most of which I believe is mahogany. The desk has a dark stain finish even though some of the photos came out lighter because of the lighting when I took photos. There are antique brass finish handles and hardware on the drawers- one handle is missing. The traditional drop leaf desk/tray and its mechanisms work without problems. The two front legs are ball and claw style- both have some of the finish chipped off of them. Overall, the desk is heavy duty and in sturdy condition with minor wear and tear. Antique 1900-1950 Slant Drop Front Oak Secretary Desk - Lionhead
I am not an expert but an antique furniture appraiser looked at this piece recently and stated this is a unique desk that he's never seen one quite like it. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. Selling this wood secretary desk. This was made by the Rockford Chair and Furniture Co. Rockford ILL. I am not 100% certain, but the research I've done makes me believe it was made between 1920 and 1930, but I could be wrong. This desk measures about 32 1/4" wide by 40" tall. Measures about 17 1/2" deep when closed and 29 1/2" when opened. Has various signs of age/use. Such as light scratches, a chip out of the front foot and some rough marks in the one drawer. Antique Drop Front/Slant Front Secretary Desk- 1940's- Solid wood. Has Ball and Claw feet. And all original brass hardware. One brass drawer pull is broken, but I have the piece that broke off. It has three drawers, and inside of the drop down has three drawers, a door and six cubby holes. The drop-down locks, but I don't have the key for it. The dimensions are 43" high x 34" wide x 17" deep. With the drop-down open, it is 29" deep. It has a 2-1/2" x 3" section of the lower left front corner where a piece of the veneer is missing. It has a few age and wear scratches. The support hinge on the left side inside of the drop down is broken, but still sits level with the good one, so it does not sag. It may be able to be repaired, and if not, can be easily replaced. These flaws can all be seen in the photos.

Up for auction: Very nice ladies' desk/secretary. Ball and claw feet. Slant front that pulls out( see pics)I do have the key for the drawer. I do not have the main key. Condition: Overall condition is very good. One of the ball and claw feet has some cosmetic damage.see pics of each foot. Everything is original but I am not sure about the interior draw section.this could have been added later. This particular section is darker and more of a cherry color. My husband and I retrieved this from an auction years ago. We are downsizing and have just put this in a nearby antique booth.
