Antique Secretary, cabinet, walnut furniture, desk, 1900 darling!
Gorgeous piece. I hate to let it go, but I'm moving and need to downsize! Circa 1900 secretary I believe is walnut. maker unknown. This was more of a middle class piece rather than a fine piece in it's day, so I was told by the dealer. It is solidly constructed, and stands 93" tall including pediment. it comes apart into two pieces making it easier to move. the top cabinet with glass doors is 62" tall and is rather shallow at nine inches which is nice if you don't want too bulky a piece. the bottom stands 31" and is 18 inches deep at the top, the cabinet being 15 inches deep. it is 38" wide. With desk folded down it is 23" deep. It has some insect gouges, I guess you might call them and other flaws and some wear. Pediment has been repaired. but you can hardly tell. PLEASE study photos carefully and consider ... moremeasurements and ask any questions before bidding. This is the most darling piece and looks fabulous just as it is. Up for purchase is this beautiful Drop Front Secretary Desk with Glass Door a three shelf book or display case on top. I am told this is Birds Eye Maple but I am not 100% sure. I am not sure how old this is but I believe it to be an Antique based on the locks on the desk and the hardware. As you can see in the pictures this displays and looks beautiful. Up for your consideration today is this magnificent authentic antique secretary desk/curio cabinet. IT IS AN ORIGINAL LARKIN AND THE ORIGINAL PAPERWORK IS STILL ATTACHED TO THE BACK. Please check out the photos carefully. The finish is wonderful with very little wear. The beveled mirror is original. The key still works to lock the glass curio door. it does not lock the desk drop leaf or drawer) All carvings are original. The only thing that I know to be changed is the glass shelving. My husband added the shelving. Whether you use this piece to display depression glass as I do, or as a book cabinet or antiques display cabinet it is always a conversation piece. I had a collection of antique ink wells so they were displayed behind the glass and I left the drop leaf down and had a well, antique quill pens an antique tea cup and saucer on the ... moredesk. This is a wonderful piece and will add charm to any room. Three things I must point out. There is a stain inside the drawer. I think it is an ink stain. It is not visible from the outside, only the inside of the drawer. There is a small mark on the shelf that may be a burn. I have taken a photo of the key next to the mark so you can gauge the size of this flaw. Lastly I have been told that there was a small 2 inch piece of wood that extended across the top of the book shelf side of the unit I don't know what it looked like but was told by an authority that it is missing. Until I was told it never looked like anything was missing. Whatever I have displayed on that shelf always looked wonderful. The glass door is original and has no flaws. THIS PIECE WAS MADE IN AMERICA BY LARKIN and has held its value. I own it for about 25 years but must sell everything as we are moving into a vary small space. Please check out my other antiques. It's put together with nails only(no glue, screws.etc. It's about 7 inches tall and 10 inches across. One antiquer I spoke with told me it was what they called a"secretary" box.
