Antique Roll Top Quarter-sawn desk in oak--early 1900s and chair
This is a beautiful S-curve roll top desk in very good condition. We have owned this desk for 35 years. But the prior owner found an envelope inside the desk dated 1905. It is crafted all around so does not have to be placed against a wall. The drawers have dovetail joints-a few of the joints are loose, but drawers work fine. There are 3 locks-one on the roll-top, one on the side or end of the desk, and one on the right-hand door and we have all keys and the locks work perfectly. The top rolls up and down very smoothly. I do not know who made the desk. The oak chair did not come with it, but matches nicely. 2 of the back slats are broken but the swivel and wheels are very sturdy and work great. Chair is free. L. J. G. Stickley Model 601 Quarter Sawn Oak Antique Desk with 20 by 34 top from around 1910. It appears to have the original finish. There are some joint separations in the top but otherwise structurally sound. The drawer guide on the bottom of the drawer has been repaired. The L. J. G. Stickley emblem is on the drawer bottom. The last photograph shows this model desk from the old catalog with a backsplash that this one does not have. The drawer pulls are not original. Antique Roll Top Pedestal Desk, Quarter Sawn, Tiger Oak, Raised Panel
Antique Quarter Sawn. Raised Panel, Tiger Oak. Roll Top Desk I think this desk was manufactured in the early 1900’s. But I haven’t found any identifying marks. The wood grain is beautiful. The desk top is 54” x 32 ½” and the overall height is 53” The height of the desk top is about 32" There are four drawers on each side. All of the drawers are very deep and slide smoothly. The roll top moves up and down with a little effort. It takes two hands to open and close it. The caster wheels(not original) can be removed easily. Photo#4 shows the two slide-out writing panels. In photo#5 a red arrow points to a horizontal board that is not original. In photo#6 a red arrow points to a chipped board. Photo#7 includes a close-up of the lock. A drawer, and the underside of the desk top. Photo#8 shows the roll top section with all four drawers ... moreopened slightly(2 rectangular drawers and 2 small triangular pencil drawers) In photo#9 two cigarette burns are circled in red. Photo#10 shows a drawer with dividers, the underside of the slide-out panels, the underside of the roll top(laying on the floor) and the underside of one of the two small drawers from the roll top section. Photo#11 shows several holes that are near the corner of one of the pedestals. Apparently something was attached to the desk at one time. A lamp, perhaps. There are five holes along the front right edge and 10 holes on the right side, near the front edge. In photo#12 two chipped spots are circled in red. This desk has age appropriate signs of wear. Including chips and light scratches. I don’t have a key for the the lock. The front of one of the small pencil drawers has warped, and one of the guide rails for that drawer is loose. The panels on the back of the roll top section have warped, but they are intact. I know that I’ve listed a lot of condition issues. But none of them jump out at you when you first see the desk. Large VINTAGE OAK Drafting Desk QUARTER SAWN Veneer Top, 3 LARGE Drawers
For LOCAL PICKUP ONLY. I am selling a LARGE, vintage, MID-CENTURY drafting desk with a QUARTER SAWN OAK veneer top, 3 HUGE drawers and a stylish, decorative and functional top railing. I could not find another desk like it, so it is probably RARE and possibly a HANDMADE, one-of-a-kind piece. This is not just a drafting desk or art desk. It can also be used as a computer desk, all you need is a barstool or you can stand while you work if you like. The two barstools in the photos are included if you want them. I have used this as my computer desk for five years without any trouble(though I use a Velcro strap to earthquake proof the monitor) The back of the desk is 44-5/8 inches high and the front edge is 42-¼ inches high. So it only slopes down 2-3/8 inches over a 23-inch span. The desk top is 72 inches long and 34 inches wide. The flat ... moreback“deck” is 9 inches wide, then there’s a pen trough that is 1-¼ inches wide, running the full length of the desk top. Again, the slanted surface is 23 inches wide. The wood railing on the back deck is 10-¾ inches high, 10 inches wide and it runs the full length of the desk. It is held in place with screws(so it is easily removable) I don’t know if it has a purpose other than decoration, but it has a lot of tack holes in it, so it was used as a bulletin board. Before I got it, it was used in a casting director’s office. I have no idea when it was made, by whom, or who originally owned it. The 3 LARGE drawers run almost the full depth of the desk. Their interiors are just under 20-½ inches wide and 27-½ inches deep. The drawers have DOVETAIL construction. The two outside drawers have locks. Though, by the looks of them, they have not been used in a long time and I do not have the keys. The locks are marked with a CLUB or CLOVER maker’s mark and a number 9 or 6.
