We have since found out through an online appraisal company that ... moreis is an Antique Drop Front Writing Desk" from around 1900-1915. But it will really always be"Grandpa's writing desk" Unfortunately my seller is downsizing their home and grandpa's desk needs to find a new place to go. It is a lovely little piece measuring 39" tall. 27" across and 15" deep. It is in nice condition given it's age, but it does have a small chip out of the front right corner post. You can see it in the photos. The interior is plain with no shelves, drawers or cubbies. The information that I received from the appraisal company is as follows: The drop front oak(not quarter-sawn oak) writing desk is a Mission style Arts and Crafts desk; there is a keyhole in the top of the fall front and a small gallery or backplate on the top back of the desk. There is an"H" stretcher in the middle bottom of the desk and a vertical"X" stretcher on each bottom side of the desk; the legs are quadrant legs; there is one drawer with round brass pulls beneath the fall front. I would date the desk C. 1900-1915; the value would be between $625.00 and $700.00 in today's retail market. Due to the size of this item it will not be available for shipping. Description This desk has always been referred to as"Grandpa's writing desk. We have since found out through an online appraisal company that is is an Antique Drop Front Writing Desk" from around 1900-1915. But it will really always be"Grandpa's writing desk" Unfortunately my seller is downsizing their home and grandpa's desk needs to find a new place to go. It is a lovely little piece measuring 39" tall. 27" across and 15" deep. It is in nice condition given it's age, but it does have a small chip out of the front right corner post. You can see it in the photos. The interior is plain with no shelves, drawers or cubbies. The information that I received from the appraisal company is as follows: The drop front oak(not quarter-sawn oak) writing desk is a Mission style Arts and Crafts desk; there ... moreis a keyhole in the top of the fall front and a small gallery or backplate on the top back of the desk. ANTIQUE MISSION OAK BEDROOM DESK This desk is of the type used in bedrooms during the turn of the century due to the small size of most rooms during the early America years. In addition to being used as a desk they were also used as secretaries. Sewing tables and also doubled as a night stand. This desk measures 47 1/2" in length in the unfolded position. 23 1/2" folded x 23" deep x 25 1/2" high. The folding legs are turned and have wooden casters, and the drawers are made with dove tail joints. This is a very sturdy desk which I have been using for the past six years as my computer desk. There are a few blemishes which can be seen in the photo's which can be best described as scratches and a few heat scorch marks which may have been from an iron. A lamp to close to the surface, or from a sewing machines motor heat ... moreall of which add to the patina of this beautiful desk. It has not been re-finished and am sure it could be if the buyer chooses to do so. I am not sure of it's origin but have seen a few similar which have been described as an item made in New England. This particular one was purchased from an antique store in Colorado over 30 years ago. This is a gorgeous arts& crafts era mission style desk or library desk. Solid quarter sawn oak construction. The back is open. It has turned spiral legs. A cane side. One drawer, dove-tail construction. There is a shelf underneath. Condition is very good. There are few scratches, one area of the side caning with a push-through as shown. Up for your consideration is a beautiful antique oak writing desk. It is in the Mission or Arts and Crafts design. We have had this for y ears in our home. It is quite sturdy. The measurem e nts are 26" deep x 38" wi de x 29 3/4" tall. The front drops down and in side is a writing platform w ith an inkwell hole. Pencil rest, and cubbies in t he back for en v elopes. Etc. To the right is a drawer which actually comes completely out. The hinges have been replaced on this front piece as well as t he glass kno bs. There is an old keyhole and the lock seems to still be intact. However we do not have a key. My husband had his computer on this desk and be cause the underside of the des k is open. He was able to keep the keyboard on the pull-out platform, and the wires fit right throu gh. The wood is oak and is in beautiful condition ... morefor being old. I will describe condition as best as possible and have taken many pictures which show every side of item. PLEASE NOTE- white spots on desk in photos are fresh snowflakes that just started to fall. Desk is stored indoors but photos were taken while moving the desk. Antique Mission Oak Library Desk I can find no markings on this except a#17 in pencil in the drawer slide and a# 17 in pencil in the drawer. I assume they did this so they would know which drawer went with which desk, and does not allude to who made the desk. I got this from my wife's uncles estate. He was 96 when he passed and he got this desk from his parents estate in Spokane Wa. when they passed. It is made from solid oak and on the ends of the top board you can see that the top is tongue and grooved. Very hard to show in the pictures. I don't know tiger oak from quarter sawn oak so you be the judge. There is some what appears to be grey paint on one corner of the top. please see pictures. Someone drove 2 finish nails about 2' long into the top of one of the legs. One leg has a chip out of it at the bottom about the size of ... morea quarter and another leg has a little grey paint at the bottom of one side. See pictures. I have made no attempt to repair. The desk is 30.25" wide and 32" tall and 15" deep. The height of the writing surface is 15. I estimate the age of this desk to be approximately 110 years. It is in good to very good condition with some light surface scratches and cup marks as pictured. More wear is shown(appropriately) inside on the work surface. There is evidence of use(and age) by the scuffing marks on the inside walls from opening and closing the desktop. This desk does not take up much space so would work great in smaller areas. Straight out of a local estate. ORIGINAL authentic 1908 Gustav Stickley writing desk no.709. Five drawers with a kneehole compartment shelf underneath. Unsigned. But it has all the correct attributes and quality that speaks for itself. My research shows that many of Stickley's pieces were unsigned, or possibly had a label which could've fallen off over the years. This is 100% guaranteed to be 100% authentic Gustav Stickley! Pegged joint construction. Flush-tenon support beams underneath. GOOD CONDITION considering the age. LOOKS GREAT from a distance. Original solid brass pulls and feet are from the days of mopping floors. Richly figured quarter sawn oak has an excellent deep finish. There are just enough mars and wear at the edges of the top for antique character, see photos. Deep drawers have dovetailed joints, there is a file drawer. This is a neat mission style desk and chair. The desk needs some cleaning but in good condition. Desk Has a small set of initials carved into left hand corner. This is a part of a 93 year old man's estate. He had this in the family since at least the 60's. He couldn't remember when his deceased wife had purchased it. This is a really special piece with an original finish that glows! The dimensions are 50" X 30" X 30" and is very heavy. The through tenons are faux and the lower shelf is missing the outside faux tenon on one side as seen in the pictures. The right hand drawer has also been rebuilt but retains the original front. Up for sale is a Beautiful Quarter Sawn Oak Teachers Desk and Chair. This is a nice solid piece. The desk measures approx. 61 inches wide. 33 inches deep and 30 3/4 inches high. The top of the desk is leather but is in a very used condition. There are 3 small draws on the left side, 1 small and 1 large draw on the right side, a middle draw and 2 pull out writing trays. We are pleased to offer this antique desk. This is a beautiful old desk dating to the early half of the 20th century. The desk is made of solid oak in the Mission. Arts& Crafts style. It is"Stickley" styled with a clean, simple design. The desk top is compromised of 2 planks which provide a generous work space. It has a single center drawer for pens, pencils, etc. Each side features two, open shelves for paper/file storage. The legs are simple and slightly supercede the height of the table top. The desk has wooden buttons which cover the screws/nails. It is in very good antique condition. There is a very slight bow on the top which is neither severe or distracting. There are some minor nicks and dings from use, but again, nothing too obvious or distracting. There is one screw cover that is missing on the back of the desk(see ... morephoto 10) The desk is sturdy and the screws can be tightened if they loosen. Tiger Oak Mission Style Drop Down Desk Quarter Sewn
This beautiful desk is made out of oak wood. Tiger oak wood, quarter sawn and is in solid, good original condition. This wonderful secretary style desk has a light/medium oak stain finish color, and it has a pull-down front with a drawer and shelving inside the top section, see pictures. Dove-tailed drawer with wood handles on the outside, see pictures, and the drawer is working properly. This is a high-quality piece with an elegant mission/arts and crafts style design. The condition is very good for it's age but there are some aging imperfections with a small dark spot on the top, and some on the bottom shelf and a couple inside. Also some sort of small circle outline near the top key hole. It looks like the front drop down is made in two pieces and there is a small separation of the two in an area. Really just part of the old character ... morebut I want to point out as much as I see so that you can decide if you are interested. I haven't found anything like this listed anywhere on the Internet. Mission Oak Arts& Crafts desk inkwell stand. It is marked Sengbusch on the bottom of the stand. This piece is from the early 1900s and is 100% all original with leather pads for the inkwells. It measures 15 x 8 x 1" These are really hard to come by specially in this condition.
