This desk has a black inlay in several areas as well. The crown is carved with a fan shape at the center and spoon carvings and lines all along the top. There is a secret door behind the crown on the top of the piece that has a lock and opens to the center section. The doors are paneled and the black inlay is very nice on them. The center door has 3 letters in the center of it in the ... moreblack inlay“FBC” The doors house cubby holes and compartments. The center has a large label on the back interior wall that shows a picture of the building and talks about the company that made this piece. The desk has a black leather type writing area that lifts out and there is more secret storage underneath it. The desk top is slanted toward the user. There are 4 ringed legs. This piece has a great patina and is in great condition for its age. It is antique and may not be perfect. I do not know the exact date it was made. It was made by the Pettibone Mfg. Co. in Cincinnati. OH. There is a brass tag on the center front of the desk part that says the company name and location. It says LIBRARY AND SOCIETY GOODS as well. The measurements are: Base: 29 ½ inches tall, 38 5/8 inches side to side and 30 ¼ inches front to back. It weighs 33 pounds. This is such a rare& beautiful piece of furniture. I purchased it from an elderly lady in Edmonds WA that had had the desk most of her life. Her story was that the desk had served in the Washington state capitol building. she had a paper(see photo) with a few of the details typed up. I have kept that paper with the desk since I bought in in 1989. Crafted by S. Friedman Cabinet Company of Indianapolis The dimensions are 50.5 x 34 x 59. It is larger than normal. Rare, Left Handed Oak School Desk REDUCED
Very rare. Left handed, solid oak school desk(writing surface is maple) from the early 1900's. I completely dis-assembled it, re-glued it, sanded, stained and sprayed it with two coats of satin polyurethane. Book storage racks underneath the seat. I sat in this kind of desk back in the early 40's but none of the ones in any of my classes were left handed. I just had to have it and if any of your children are left handed, you have to have it too.

Up for auction is a very cool. Very old antique school desk. The desk is adjustable in many different ways. The top desk portion actually tilts. The desk can be raised also to different heights with a metal bar underneath that has two positions. The bar on the back of the chair also can be raised and lowered for proper back support. The writing desk portion also slides back and forth to get closer or farther from the child sitting in the chair. There is a nice drawer under the chair. This is an amazing piece of work- very mechanical and advanced for its time. The seat height is approximately 12.5 inches high off the ground- approximately 24 3/4 inches to the top of the back of the seat. Writing desk portion is 15 by 20 inches and tilts from 4 to 6 inches. Made by the Gunn Furniture Company ca. 1890's is a 2 stack lawyers bookcase topped with a FANCY drop front desk with all the small drawers and cubby holes. The tiger oak patterns are top of the line. The finish is a medium dark honey oak with a great patina. Overall dimensions are 34 1/4" wide. 14" deep and 48" high. Inside dimensions of the desk are 32 1/2" wide, 12 1/2" high and 10 1/2- deep. This is a Stunning solid Burled Maple and Mahogany Butlers Desk Chest of Drawers. It weighs approximately 250-300 pounds and measures 52” in height. 42 3/4” in width, and 21 ½”in depth. It features beautiful detailing and a deep rich patina. A large false drawer front drops to reveal a Burled Maple writing surface with six small drawers and a middle storage compartment all over three drawers flankled by twisted columns. I'm not sure of the date on this piece. I've had several antique dealers and professionals who looked at it and the concensus is between 1930-1950 possibly made in Ohio. Antique Victorian Mahogany Cylinder "Roll Top" Desk - Rare FInd
This is a fabulous antique Victorian cylinder(roll top) desk with a pull-out tooled leather writing surface. It slides easily without hard pulling. The middle section tilts up and is propped in place at several different angles by a wooden support for writing or use with a lap-top computer. The left section lifts to expose a pocket below that can be used to store important papers. Stationery, or other office supplies. The right section is fixed. Far to the right is a tray for writing instruments, and two wooden dividers separate part of that tray into small cubes for paper clips, pins, and other smaller objects as desired. According to web sources. The"cylinder" desk was the predecessor to the roll top and had been in use in France in the 1700's. The cylinder desk was discontinued- in favor of the"rolltop" desk with ... morea canvas shade with wooden slats fastened to it- simply because it was so difficult to keep the large, long, cylinder- made from a single piece of wood- from warping or bending with time, causing friction and disuse. This desk does not have any such warping of the cylinder. It rolls back into the body of the upper portion with ease and closes just as easily. It can be done with one hand, of course, but as the wooden cylinder is NOT flimsy, it's best closed with two hands. It is a solid as it looks in the pictures. It seems to be counter-balanced, as it moves easily. When closed correctly, it locks the writing surface(which should have been pushed back in place prior to lowering the cylinder) with a key lock(one key provided) The lock works well. You'll note the dovetail work on the bottom pedestal drawers. This may assist you in verifying the age of the piece. Everything is solid wood. The six drawers in the pedestals have brass key locks. But I have no keys for them. There are six smaller drawers on the upper portion of the desk are numbered with roman numerals on the back edges. The measure 6.5" x 9.25" x 2" OD. When you purchase this desk. You are buying a piece of history. This rare Gustav Stickley slant-top desk is a thing of beauty and a classic example of furniture from the Arts and Crafts period and the Mission style. The Stickley markings date this desk as being made between 1912-1916. It is made of solid oak hardwood and(on the slant top) tiger-eye oak veneer. The construction is primarily mortis and tenon and peg joinery. With the back piece nailed on with original hardware. The finish and patina are original, as is all of the other hardware. 1920s Antique Vintage School Desk *RARE*
This item is RARE(1920s) I've researched it and it's somewhere between a Wabash Company(Alexandria. KY) and an American Seating Co. desk. The differences are that mine has an adjustable lid, it's very dark in stain, has minimal damage, and it has original ink well and quill pen carve out, as shown in the pictures. It also has a pen holder on the inside. I've carefully taken pics of all the"major damage" I could find. So basically, I have not found any vintage school desk quite like mine. I've enjoyed it for over five years and now it's time to let someone else enjoy it(also I need the money-don't take that as a chance to low-ball me) I know what it's worth so what I'm asking, is what I'm asking. It's well worth every pretty penny.

I do not know the exact age but believe it was around the late 1920's. I do know that the desk was stripped of its original stain and clear coated to bring back its original true oak color. And the drawer pulls were replaced, in the late 1980's. The desk show the normal wear for its age. A few of the wood slats appear to be loose but all are present and intact. One of the Front legs of the desk has a wood gouge. There is a small blue plastic pen holder that is glued down inside of desk(the pen is missing) There is NO chair with this desk. The overall dimensions is 15”deep by 20 1/2” wide and 33 1/2” tall. The interior of the desk is 12 1/2” deep and 17 1/2” ... morewide. There are 4 cubicles inside of the desk each measuring 3 1/2” deep by 3 1/2” wide. The drawer 11 1/2” deep and 15 1/4” wide and 1 1/2” high. Many use these as decorative displays for plants. Everyone of these type of desks are normally ball and claw foot. Either just in the front or both. This one comes with a bracket foot base and has the period look, just like the country Chippendale ones would. I personally love it so much better than the other style. This desk has been completely and I don't mean half assed or took short cuts here and there, but it has been completely taken ... moreapart stripped, sanded, stained all by hand. Then came the talented hand rubbed lacquers that was applied in five to six coats. So, for the next 100 years you will have one carefree gorgeous investment minded antique. Do not gets this confused with those guys out there that just polish or clean up these desk, because we have even completely done the interior which is normally skipped over by others because it is a hard thing to do. It has all the original brass Chippendale hardware on the front. As you open up the breadboard writing surface, automatic extensions come out to support the writing lid and it also exposes a wonderful multi-cubby hole drawer interior with a carved door storage area and two cleverly designed units behind multi turn spindle posts. When I was a kid, my dad always used to hide things in those drawers and it took us years to figure out where he put them. This desk was made by Maddox out of Buffalo, NY that was well known for their high quality and stylish goods. It is simply stunning and is all set to go into the home. This auction is for an amazing desk. I have looked everywhere and cannot find another one like it. It is made of all metal except the bottom few inches of the legs. Even the lattice work on the sides is metal. There is also some brass or copper trim in some areas. Those areas are the handle. The feet on the legs, and on the front lip of the desk top. The desk measures 52 inches tall, 45 inches wide, and 30 inches deep. The desktop is 36.5 inches off the floor. I do not know what the original color was. It was painted at one point a brown color and then someone started to restore it and painted it red. I think if it was completed stripped it down to bare metal it would be unbelieveable, I just do not have the time or resources to have it restored. It is a really well made piece. It easily breaks down into small components to transport. As ... moreyou can see in the photos it shows some wear and needs a little tlc but really not that much. All the parts are there minus a few screws and a small spring. I have the lock to the top it just needs to be put back in. I do not have the key though. The top does open and close but I am sure some WD-40 will really make it smooth again. The spring is put in the drawer so when the rolltop is closed the drawer will lock. That is a sub dollar part and then you will have to get several screws to really secure the whole piece. It is solid and can be used as is, but there is a shelf inside the desk that needs screws and the trim on the front of the desk also needs screws. Really not that hard to do and I may even do it myself here in the next couple days and revise the listing. It is piece you really have to see to appreciate it and like I said I think it is great as is, but with some restoration it could be on the cover of a magazine. I was told this desk was used at a coal mine. It was the foreman's desk where he could keep important papers and money. Could easily lock it up and open it to pay employees. Greetings! For your consideration: An antique turn of the century. Very unique, tabletop drafting table/feed store desk! This gorgeous portable tabletop desk is very rare indeed and measures 36 1/2 inches by 21 inches. The desk is 8 1/2 inches deep at its back point and 6 3/4 inches deep at its shallowest point. The desk is VERY heavy and is made of Pine; a very quality piece indeed. A really great look to this piece with a slide out heart of pine insert. There is a light split in the insert piece however it looks to be a very old split that was probably done when the piece was built; also it goes along with the groove and does not affect the functionality of this great piece by any means! We have never seen one of these before and are excited to offer it today for either a loft. Home, or even office. Overall. Authentic Hughes Tool Company Library Desk-Table 1940's.......Extremely Rare!!
The Hughes Tool Company Desk was removed from the Executive Offices of the Hughes Tool Company many years ago. During the company's first of many remodeling projects. It was wrapped for protection and stored in an airport storage hanger by Sugarland. A brass plate located on the left inside panel on the desk authenticates the desk as"Property of Hughes Tool Company” with the serial number for asset inventory of the company. It is constructed of solid walnut with 24K yellow gold trim that wraps around the top. The drawers have fitted wooden partitions that are removal and are engraved with the Doten-Dunton Desk Co. logo; along with several other places. Doten-Dunton Desk Co. was based in Cambridge, Mass known as the best manufacturer of office furniture for many years; every piece was handmade by a master carpenter.
