There is a name and year written on the bottom of the desk, but it is very faint and can only be seen while hold the desk at a certain angle to the light. I tried to capture the writing in a picture, but could only get the first part of the name. The name stands out the most. The rest of the writing, I believe would be where the owner lived and the year is much fainter. It looks like Maggie C Farr(something) something) 1876 or 1896. The box measures about 11 ¼” x 7 3/4” x 3 ½” closed) Opened and lying flat the desk measures about 16” long. The inside bottom felt writing surface that lifts up is tight and strong while the top felt writing surface that lifts up is wiggly, but still very much intact. Very nice old lap desk. This is a turn of the century wood lap desk with some issues. It measures about 11-5/8" by 8" by 3-1/2" deep. The wood is probably walnut or mahogany and does have age wear- a solid box- both the cover and the bottom have splits as you can see in the photos- has the compartments- one of the small dividers is missing- not sure if the locking mechanism works as there is no key. Polyeurethane or paint etc. Nicely painted red with eagle decal. Seat is wood and metal steel and marked Pat'd July 28. 1925 or 26. T he desk top is wood and lifts open to store paper and supplies perfectly. Cle an inside- compartment measures 3" deep. Both the seat and the desktop operate as they should. Desktop measures 20 1/4" x 14" This desk measures 25 1/2" tall from back of chair to floor. I think the height on the seat and desk can be adjusted. From back to front this desk measures 26" long. The wood connection at the back of the desk has slightly come undone as the wood seems to have moved a bit with age. Vintage Antique Old Wooden Desk One Room School House Tennessee Lovely Patina
Purchased many years ago by the current owner for a larger home than the bungalow* she now resides in. The owner of the store where she purchased it from had tagged it as about 100 years old from a one room schoolhouse in Tennessee. The photos say it best. I have included with and without flash photos so you can see its the hues in different lights. The patina is eye candy, and the strong grain stands smooth and proud with the natural sheen from decades of books sliding back and forth across it. The desk stands tight and level and is in superb original condition with all the original wood pieces, screws and hardware, including the desk latch/lock-simple yet efficient. The only non-original item is a small well done wood brace that you have to stick your head inside the desk and look up to find. The brace has brass round-head screws which ... moresuggests a post-war repair since flat-head iron screws are more common from pre-war construction and this type of fastening is what is used in the desk. It is approximately 21" inches wide and 20" deep, it stands 27" tall in front and 31" tall in back, the bottom shelf is 8" x 21" the inside of the desk storage area is 19" wide and 17" front to back and varies from 4" to 6" deep. I have looked at maybe 500 + photos of old school desks and have found only one of similar construction(and it is from England and is listed only as"Old School Desk" for $800 USD) This gives some credence to the one-room schoolhouse the dealer claimed. Probably built by a local carpenter out of Tennessee Pine or similar local wood just for this single classroom. I cannot guarantee any special providence or exact age for this item but can only tell you what the dealer told my client. How it was tagged and what I have found out in my research. I bought this at a yard sale& though someone might want to rehab it. It has not been touched in quite a while it seems& has some damage to its desktop with a few paint splashes. The darker variations on the wood are just droplets of rain that came off of my garage door right before taking the photos. The metal is in need of TLC as it shows signs of wear. Style, etc) to hang it on without any success. The reason being- I really like it. It's a dandy. It's un-restored. Hardwood(not quite sure which) The iron is semi-ornate foundry quality. The wood resembles gun/rifle-stock. I'd like to tell you more about it if I could. If anyone can offer additional info. I'm all ears(and eyes) please do. Dimensions are(at furthest points) 30" Wide/ 15" High from Top shelf to Bottom of Iron/ 8" Deep. The 2 face surfaces. This small oval brass piece is located on the front top left corner. Just under the front left corner overhang. It could be a banker's desk, teacher, insurance, attorney, or just about anything. It's a nice BIG work area, and could be great for crafts or even clock repairing. The condition is very good. Antique Vintage All Wood School Desk Chair Top Child Industrial Machine Age
This is an all wood antique child's chair top. It is in good condition. A few of the curved backing pieces need a little glue and a vice overnight to tighten them up to the top backrest. The piece is solid other than that. This is very old. Strong wood which has some gorgeous curvature to it. The bottom of the chair which is sat on is about 14.5" deep. The back of the chair is about 15 10/16" tall.

This is a sweet antique school desk is in good condition. I bought it about 30 years ago at an antique store in Ft. Worth. Tx. and refinished it. The wood is probably pine. The desk has been kept on display indoors since its purchase. If you are familiar with these desks. The kid in the seat behind actually uses this desk. These were a little before my time, but that appears to be how they worked. When the seat is down. The desk is about 30 inches in depth, 21 inches wide, and 25 inches tall. The dimensions of the top of the desk are about 20 ½ wide by 13 ½ deep. There is an indention for a pencil and a wooden‘cubby’ for papers and books. The seat in the front and flips down for seating and up if not needed. It also has a clear glass inkwell for‘real’ ink– no ball points yet. The sides are made of heavy black cast iron and have ... morethe number 4 embossed on each side. The feet have holes for screwing the desk into the wooden school house floor. There are some small gouges on the edge of the desk(could have been a pocket knife) And some stains(probably ink) You know how kids are! Vintage Antique Mahogany Rolltop Desk by Derby Desk Company
This Roll-top desk is a Fine antique. Solid mahogany manufactured by Derby Desk Company Boston, Massachusetts. The desk lock is by Corbin cabinet lock company with a patent date Dec 16, 1884. I think the desk is approximately 1920, but I've gotten that from looking at other desks and growing up with other antique furniture. The size is 50" wide by 33 1/2" deep by 50 1/2" tall. It has the S type tambour roll. After the roll top is open. The side panel guides have locks that when released, allow the hinged sides to swing out of the way. All the cubbyholes, drawers and hardware are original and in good condition. The desk has raised panel sides and back including back of kneehole, with none missing. HISTORY: I bought the desk from a Mr. Harmon in Phoenix 1998 and have a receipt in the desk that Mr. Harmon bought it from his ... morefather Nathaniel P. Harmon in April 1980 in Jaffrey New Hampshire. The senior Mr. Harmon bought the desk from the original owner 40 years previous. Who was from Boston, Massachusetts. He left a stogie burn on the top of the desk, which somebody partially rubbed out, and now it's called a character mark. I thought of doing an overall staining, touch up and polishing, but decided not to, pending what a buyer might want to do if anything. This desk has been in a smoke free house since 1998. Antique childs wooden desk and chair Vintage
This desk was my Dads. Then my Aunts and then passed back and forth between cousins and has been in storage for decades. It measures 33 1/2" X 14" X 21 1/2" and the chair is 26" tall. It is in great shape considering its age and has only normal wear with some crayon markings inside the drawer, the chair is more worn and has a sticker on the backrest. It is a really cute piece and since researching it I have not found another like it. I accept PayPal for payment, and sorry but no returns/refunds. I ship standard UPS and buyer pays fair shipping.
