They've been in air conditioned storage since that time. These were commonly used by the medical profession. They are rare. That's for sure. The finish of the paint is still in remarkable condition, though they still need a thorough cleaning. Many of the pictures show the shiny surface of the paint, which was manufactured by DuPont. The metal surface was prepared and sprayed with a rust proofer by the Parker Rust Proof Co, with their product called Bonderite. From the"How to care for SIMMONS FURNITURE guide" SIMMONS FURNITURE protected and enhanced with Du Pont satin-finished HI-BAKE DULUX. SIMMONS Steel furniture is specially finished with Hi-Bake DULUX for outstanding beauty and durability. DULUX is an exceptionally hard finish with excellent moisture resistance that protects against rust or corrosion. With proper care. SIMMONS furniture remains beautifully new for years. Overall condition is good. The drawers are in good condition. With the top drawers showing a little rust on the inside. The second drawer down has only a small amount of rust showing, and the bottom drawer shows no rust. The drawer guides could use some graphite to restore the smooth fluid movement of opening and closing. Each piece has it's own forgivings. I tried my best to display in detail the extent of the abrasions. Dents and scratches. Examine the pictures carefully. If you need larger pics, or perhaps a different view, contact me and I'll send you the requested pics asap. The footstool's fabric is intact- no rips. Tears, holes or cracks and the material is soft and pliable. Someone removed what appears to be shipping tape- and that managed to remove some of the color in a small area which is more noticeable in the pictures than in person. This desk has a black inlay in several areas as well. The crown is carved with a fan shape at the center and spoon carvings and lines all along the top. There is a secret door behind the crown on the top of the piece that has a lock and opens to the center section. The doors are paneled and the black inlay is very nice on them. The center has a large label on the back interior wall that shows a picture of the building and talks about the company that made this piece. The desk has a black leather type writing area that lifts out and there is more secret storage underneath it. The desk top is slanted toward the user. There are 4 ringed legs. This piece has a great patina and is in great condition for its age. It is antique and may not be perfect. I do not know the exact date it was made. It was made by the Pettibone Mfg. Co. in Cincinnati. OH. There is a brass tag on the center front of the desk part that says the company name and location. It says LIBRARY AND SOCIETY GOODS as well. The measurements are: Base: 29 ½ inches tall, 38 5/8 inches side to side and 30 ¼ inches front to back. It weighs 33 pounds. Her story was that the desk had served in the Washington state capitol building. she had a paper(see photo) with a few of the details typed up. Up for auction is a very cool. Very old antique school desk. The desk is adjustable in many different ways. The top desk portion actually tilts. The desk can be raised also to different heights with a metal bar underneath that has two positions. The bar on the back of the chair also can be raised and lowered for proper back support. The writing desk portion also slides back and forth to get closer or farther from the child sitting in the chair. There is a nice drawer under the chair. This is an amazing piece of work- very mechanical and advanced for its time. The seat height is approximately 12.5 inches high off the ground- approximately 24 3/4 inches to the top of the back of the seat. Writing desk portion is 15 by 20 inches and tilts from 4 to 6 inches. Antique Victorian Mahogany Cylinder "Roll Top" Desk - Rare FInd
This is a fabulous antique Victorian cylinder(roll top) desk with a pull-out tooled leather writing surface. It slides easily without hard pulling. The middle section tilts up and is propped in place at several different angles by a wooden support for writing or use with a lap-top computer. The left section lifts to expose a pocket below that can be used to store important papers. Stationery, or other office supplies. The right section is fixed. Far to the right is a tray for writing instruments, and two wooden dividers separate part of that tray into small cubes for paper clips, pins, and other smaller objects as desired. According to web sources. The"cylinder" desk was the predecessor to the roll top and had been in use in France in the 1700's. The cylinder desk was discontinued- in favor of the"rolltop" desk with ... morea canvas shade with wooden slats fastened to it- simply because it was so difficult to keep the large, long, cylinder- made from a single piece of wood- from warping or bending with time, causing friction and disuse. This desk does not have any such warping of the cylinder. It rolls back into the body of the upper portion with ease and closes just as easily. It can be done with one hand, of course, but as the wooden cylinder is NOT flimsy, it's best closed with two hands. It is a solid as it looks in the pictures. It seems to be counter-balanced, as it moves easily. When closed correctly, it locks the writing surface(which should have been pushed back in place prior to lowering the cylinder) with a key lock(one key provided) The lock works well. You'll note the dovetail work on the bottom pedestal drawers. This may assist you in verifying the age of the piece. Everything is solid wood. The six drawers in the pedestals have brass key locks. But I have no keys for them. There are six smaller drawers on the upper portion of the desk are numbered with roman numerals on the back edges. The measure 6.5" x 9.25" x 2" OD. 1920s Antique Vintage School Desk *RARE*
This item is RARE(1920s) I've researched it and it's somewhere between a Wabash Company(Alexandria. KY) and an American Seating Co. desk. The differences are that mine has an adjustable lid, it's very dark in stain, has minimal damage, and it has original ink well and quill pen carve out, as shown in the pictures. It also has a pen holder on the inside. I've carefully taken pics of all the"major damage" I could find. So basically, I have not found any vintage school desk quite like mine. I've enjoyed it for over five years and now it's time to let someone else enjoy it(also I need the money-don't take that as a chance to low-ball me) I know what it's worth so what I'm asking, is what I'm asking. It's well worth every pretty penny.

I do not know the exact age but believe it was around the late 1920's. I do know that the desk was stripped of its original stain and clear coated to bring back its original true oak color. And the drawer pulls were replaced, in the late 1980's. The desk show the normal wear for its age. A few of the wood slats appear to be loose but all are present and intact. One of the Front legs of the desk has a wood gouge. There is a small blue plastic pen holder that is glued down inside of desk(the pen is missing) There is NO chair with this desk. The overall dimensions is 15”deep by 20 1/2” wide and 33 1/2” tall. The interior of the desk is 12 1/2” deep and 17 1/2” ... morewide. There are 4 cubicles inside of the desk each measuring 3 1/2” deep by 3 1/2” wide. The drawer 11 1/2” deep and 15 1/4” wide and 1 1/2” high. Many use these as decorative displays for plants. Antiques, and crafts. But, if you want to play“school” you will need a chair. Take a look at my other listing. I have 2 other school desk one from ASCo and the other from Theodor Kundtz Co. listed. For as long as I could remember these desk were in my parents basement with the Roll Top first and the 2 other desk behind it. This allowed for 3 desk and 3 chairs. This auction is for an amazing desk. I have looked everywhere and cannot find another one like it. It is made of all metal except the bottom few inches of the legs. Even the lattice work on the sides is metal. There is also some brass or copper trim in some areas. Those areas are the handle. The feet on the legs, and on the front lip of the desk top. The desk measures 52 inches tall, 45 inches wide, and 30 inches deep. The desktop is 36.5 inches off the floor. I do not know what the original color was. It was painted at one point a brown color and then someone started to restore it and painted it red. I think if it was completed stripped it down to bare metal it would be unbelieveable, I just do not have the time or resources to have it restored. It is a really well made piece. It easily breaks down into small components to transport. As ... moreyou can see in the photos it shows some wear and needs a little tlc but really not that much. All the parts are there minus a few screws and a small spring. I have the lock to the top it just needs to be put back in. I do not have the key though. The top does open and close but I am sure some WD-40 will really make it smooth again. The spring is put in the drawer so when the rolltop is closed the drawer will lock. That is a sub dollar part and then you will have to get several screws to really secure the whole piece. It is solid and can be used as is, but there is a shelf inside the desk that needs screws and the trim on the front of the desk also needs screws. Really not that hard to do and I may even do it myself here in the next couple days and revise the listing. It is piece you really have to see to appreciate it and like I said I think it is great as is, but with some restoration it could be on the cover of a magazine. I was told this desk was used at a coal mine. It was the foreman's desk where he could keep important papers and money. Could easily lock it up and open it to pay employees. Up for sale is what I believe to be an early 1900's vintage French Partner's Desk. All original(except for a refinish) Done in Country French/Art Nouveau style. The desk came with a one-page signed appraisal from May 10, 1982 showing a value of $7500.00. I had a current full appraisal report done on the piece(including a Certificate of Authenticity) on May 27th of this year which shows a fair market value of $3200.00 and an Insurance value of $3840.00. I was unhappy with some of that appraiser's findings and disagreed with some of her opinions, so I also brought the desk to"Antiques Roadshow" here in Albuquerque in July. Their"Expert Appraiser" had a much different opinion of the piece, but still valued it in the $3500.00 to $4000.00 range. Unfortunately, the Roadshow absolutely prohibits giving anything in ... morewriting, so the only proof of an appraisal or value given from them is if you get on TV(which I did not) I think you'll agree, however, that his opinions of the piece are much more likely than the opinions in the written report(read-on) Differences: Well. First off is a big one.The appraisal report I have states that the wood is Satin Walnut whereas the Expert from the Roadshow clearly stated the primary wood was mahogany. I'm no wood expert, but I can certainly take close-up pics and/or follow instructions to help you determine the wood type. RARE HARLEY EARL's Antique White Washed Desk by Colonial Manufacturing Company
I will consider delivery. This is your chance to own a piece of true American craftsmanship. American Furniture History and American Automobile History! Colonial Manufacturing Company. Known for their attention to detail and quality craftsmanship was in business from around 1900 to 1983. Based in Zeeland Michigan, they are known mostly for making Grandfather Clocks, but also made Library Furniture and a variety of Desks, including a custom made desk for Henry Ford. We purchased this Desk from a West Palm Beach woman. She had inherited it from her Mother. She told us that Desk originally belonged to Harley Earl(famous GM Executive known for designing the Corvette and originator of car fins among two of his many accomplishments) Harley Earl passed away in West Palm Beach at the age of 75 in 1969. We were told that her Mother was related to ... morehim. I extensively investigated. And I cannot find any internet information about this desk, neither written or images. It does have a label inside that clearly identifies the manufacturer and it also has two markings on its back; 463 and 463 CO. Restoration of this Desk took about a month. It had acquired through the years. At least 7 layers of paint on its exterior surface and original hardware. With pain staking detail and respect for this very unique piece, it now has been given a new life(everything is original, including the skeleton key) I can easily see this piece in a Spanish style historical home or preserved Palm Beach Island home. The desk is made of pine and has a simple Antique white wash applied so you can see and appreciate the wood grain and wood knots. The locking left and right cabinets have amble storage and removable shelves. The center row consists of four Drawers. The top Drawer however, is actually a hidden desk with mail slots and inset leather. The Top Drawer can pull out and it has a unique front fascia fold down feature that I've never seen before. This is a gorgeous piece of furniture and has been our family for many years. It dates from the 1890's and was known as a"Partner's Desk" as it was then common in the offices of lawyers.
