I tried to capture the writing in a picture, but could only get the first part of the name. The name stands out the most. I inherited this Beautiful Antique Secretary Hutch made by Skandia Furniture Company Rockford.IL a while back I did not get a key. I know it is really old from the early 1900's and has not been refinished there is minor scratches due to age. But over all in wonderful condition. It has Beautiful Detail on the wood the inside has one shelf. The drop down has 3 small drawers the right side arm that comes out when you pull down the drop down is missing it is the arm that should be next to the top drawer on the right see picture. I am not sure about the carving. The desk has 3 leather panels on top. The desk is approximately 54" wide. 28" deep and 30" tall. It has 8 drawers. The bottom right drawer is a deep file drawer. The desk is in very good antique/used condition. At the front of the desk it may have been repaired at one time. There are two pieces of wood, one is 3" by 1" and the other one is 2" by 1" that appear to have been inlaid(not initially apparent or significant) The leather top has some stain which contributes to the authenticity,age and use of the desk. Loughlin(born 1852 in Sidney) and his Sidney Furniture Company. Loughlin patented his T-Head cast iron ornamental frame unit so that the front of the frame held a wooden seat and back that were slightly arched for comfort. And the back of the frame a wooden desk stop with an open compartment underneath it. The desktop has a single groove in it to hold pen and pencil and open hole for an inkwell. The streamline Deco design and stunning solid teak wood(not veneer) make it remarkable! I have meticulously restored this fantastic desk from top to bottom. Teak wood. Is very valuable and this desk is solid teak(except for the drawer insides)The drawer insides feature oak with dovetail joinery on both the front and back ends of the drawers. I painted the 5 drawers with black.The top drawer bottom I added the"cheetah" fabric, which is a felt backed vinyl, making for a soft surface. I think it adds artistic flair to this desk. The beautiful hardware is all original and has aged to a spectacular bronze patina and is in excellent antique condition. I restored the finish entirely by hand. Drop the lid down to expose a wonderful detailed interior that consists of multiple drawers and multiple cubbyholes. A carved raised panel center door and two cleverly disguised hidden compartments behind flame finial spindles. The writing surface is really large There are some nicks and dings due to use and age of the piece. The four drawers underneath the writing surface are all dovetail and all oxbow. It has a metal locking plate attached to the bottom of the rolltop that is labeled"Northwestern Furniture Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The metal plate that attaches to the desk surface is missing, as is the key, so currently, the rolltop can not be locked in place. The desk measures 5' long. 2'6" deep, 3'6.25" tall in the back, and 2'6" tall at the height of the desk. The top surface area of the desk, above the rolltop is 5' long by 11" wide. The flat desk surface area is 4'6.25" wide by 2'0.25" deep. There is a center drawer that measures 24-3/8" wide, 22.75" front to back, and 2" deep. Each of the three drawers on ... morethe left side, and the top drawer on the right side are 11.25" wide, 22.75" front to back, and 4.25" deep. The bottom file drawer on the right side is 11.25" wide, 22.75" front to back, and 10" deep. There are two flat oak writing shelves on the top of each side of drawers that pull out. The shelving underneath the rolltop portion, from the left, consists of two shelves underwhich is a drawer, three alternating open shelves with three drawers, and two sets of two open shelves with a drawer beneath each of them. There are also two pen/pencil holders near the middle, below the shelves/drawers. Overall. This desk is in nice condition, but does have some imperfections to mention. It appears that it has been refinished at some point in a satin finish polyurethane. Although it presents itself very well, it isn't perfect and does have a few small nicks/scratches in the surface, but none that are very bad. There is no structural damage and it is sturdy in place. Antique Secretary, cabinet, walnut furniture, desk, 1900 darling!
Gorgeous piece. I hate to let it go, but I'm moving and need to downsize! Circa 1900 secretary I believe is walnut. maker unknown. This was more of a middle class piece rather than a fine piece in it's day, so I was told by the dealer. It is solidly constructed, and stands 93" tall including pediment. it comes apart into two pieces making it easier to move. the top cabinet with glass doors is 62" tall and is rather shallow at nine inches which is nice if you don't want too bulky a piece. the bottom stands 31" and is 18 inches deep at the top, the cabinet being 15 inches deep. it is 38" wide. With desk folded down it is 23" deep. It has some insect gouges, I guess you might call them and other flaws and some wear. Pediment has been repaired. but you can hardly tell. PLEASE study photos carefully and consider ... moremeasurements and ask any questions before bidding. This is the most darling piece and looks fabulous just as it is. Antique Oak Desk and Matching Chair For Sale. The desk measures 47" long.30" tall and 26" wide.The chair slides under it. There are 2 wide drawers on top and 3 drawers on the side. The second drawer needs some repair work done on it. Has some damage inside. The back of the desk has a splintered piece.See picture. This is nothing major. The repairs are minimum and we used it just find without fixing it. We never used the drawer and the issue in back no one could see. This is an Unsigned original Arts and Crafts beautiful 1/4 sawn oak desk that is believed to be an unsigned Stickley piece. Either L&G or Gustav. The desk is in beautiful condition with normal wear of early 1900's desk. The only wear on this piece is in the top left desk drawer where it appears that a ink well spilt and stained inside the drawer, showing also the age of the piece of furniture. No symbol or signature could be found. However there is a picture of a hand written name on the under belly of the desk. Antique Oak desk circa 1930 from the European Revival Line by Lifetime Furniture
A masculine and substantial heavily carved solid oak desk. Paper stamp says"Lifetime Furniture" which is from the Grand Rapids Bookcase and Chair Co. operated until 1956) 36 1/2" wide by 66 1/2" long and 31" tall. This desk has spent its life. Up until a month ago, in the St. Ignatius Retreat House in Manhasset, NY. which has closed down. St. Ignatius is a Tudor Revival Palace built by utilities and tabacco mogul, Nicholas Brady in the 20's. It was also called Inisfada, meaning Long Island in Gaelic. In 1937 it was donated to the Jesuits. As the photos will show. The doors across the drawers are missing and two of the feet have a small section missing. There are a lot of surface scratches and a couple deeper one on the top. The finish is worn off in many places. But the rest is legible. Quick restore polish used on the furniture. In Storage for years.I did do a repair on the rear leg as shown. Was cracked and poorly repaired. Removed the old metal brace. I took the leg off and drilled ... moreboth portions in the center of the 2 pieces and installed a steel rod 1/2" diameter X 6" length. Pin is not visible as the pin is in the middle of the wood. The leg will NEVER break there again. A new L brace on the back side unseen from the front to complete the repair.Nice tight repair. Other issue is the tamba door which rolls up& down. I had to duct tape the handle on the back side. A new cloth or woven material should be glued on the back side so it rolls nicely again as one. Probably billiard felt would work well too. With contact cement on both portions and clamp. The door rolls as shown now. I spent enough time repairing the leg on this so new owner will complete this noted defect. For ultimate show the piece should be refinished or at minimum touched up with Orange shellac as is the original finish still on the pieces.Typical of 1940s-1950s furniture refinishing. Repair shop can do this relatively easy. If I had more time would do it myself. Its noted so no surprises. That said its a nice older sturdy desk that will retain value. Oak is always desired. Hello. This is a beautiful set of antique cast iron school desk legs from Grand Rapids Furniture Co. out of Michigan. They have really nice ornate patterns and awesome embossment proudly displaying their origin. These come from a time when quality mattered and things lasted for more than a few months of use. They are commonly being used for tables, and various forms of stands. The bottom shelf(as seen in the pics) folds up. My wife loves them as plant stands, a great time to pull out those special pieces of board you have been saving. I have 5 sets of these, all exactly the same, but would prefer not to combine shipping for fear that they will get damaged, it's just too much weight and too many pieces in one box.
