When fervor for antiques of the Louis XV taste were still at a remarkable high, this very attractive French Louis XV Bureau Plat was embellished with great effort. Featuring a solid mahogany top with a molded edge, the front of the bureau plat has a long hand dovetailed drawer for storage, opening to reveal a solid golden oak interior. The keyhole escutcheon is probably the finest bronze mount on the desk, a piece that prominently features the rocaille movement around the fully functioning key and lock. The apron is shapely, the front and back mirroring the flow of the top with a slight inversion in the middle. The cabriole legs are formed with very fine gate, the tapering form nearly perfect in proportion to the table, each surmounted with an intense rocaille Gilt bronze mount with the"C" form featured actively as it curls over the entire knee- a thin reed of gilt bronze continues to flow down the leg into the beautiful Gilt bronze sabot mounts with curling toes. This is a fully functional piece. Not just being a beautiful decorative art, the form being sturdy and strong throughout with a clean writing surface. For decorators passionate about the French Louis XV form, this is a wonderful find. Measurements: 39 1/2" wide x 23 7/8" deep x 29 1/4" high to top of desk; 24 1/8" high to underside of drawer(when sitting) Condition Report: Light dings and chips throughout. Including some loss to the corners of the drawer, a small"dent" in the top and scuffing to the top. Overall very attractive, the typical wear and use abrasions being somewhat limited and the overall desk being quite well preserved. The bronzes are of medium quality with some pitting and cracks from the foundry process- we believe the mounts are unsigned, though only one sabot has been removed and examined. French Louis XV Style Antique Bureau Plat Desk w/ Gilt Bronze Mounts c. 1910-30
French Louis XV Style Gilt Mounted Mahogany Bureau Plat Early 20th Century. Probably c. 1910-30 Item# 130008GQJ26 Crafted during the first years of the 20th Century. When fervor for antiques of the Louis XV taste were still at a remarkable high, this very attractive French Louis XV Bureau Plat was embellished with great effort. Featuring a solid mahogany top with a molded edge, the front of the bureau plat has a long hand dovetailed drawer for storage, opening to reveal a solid golden oak interior. The keyhole escutcheon is probably the finest bronze mount on the desk, a piece that prominently features the rocaille movement around the fully functioning key and lock. The apron is shapely, the front and back mirroring the flow of the top with a slight inversion in the middle. The slightly serpentined case is entirely veneered in shades of mahogany, and light wood string inlaid. There are cast brass mounts: drawer pulls, escutcheons, bandings, corner and skirt ornaments. The top is a complimenting polished marble slab. The top three faux drawers drop down to reveal the desk with leather writing surface, and with drawered cubbyhole. The abattant measures 4' 48" tall by 2' 24" wide by 14" deep, the drop front frame 16" by 15-3/4" the leather surface 9-3/4" by 9-1/2" The desk is 27-1/2" up from the floor. Includes all five locks and the key. Very good plus condition: original finish to mahogany, all brass mounts present. We are pleased to offer this EXQUISITE. Antique(early 20thC) French, Louis XV, ladies, petite desk/secretary with hutch. The pieces are burled mahogany and rosewood veneer. They are oval(the hutch is demilune) and there is a decorative bottom stretcher that is large enough to function as a shelf. Both the desk and the hutch feature EXCEPTIONAL. Marquetry inlay with unique patterns. The patterns are urns, ewers and flower pots accented with leaves and flowers. These are somewhat"ancient, earthenware" looking patterns, instead of the usual, more formal, marquetry designs. The marquetry is abundant and is present on the front, sides, bottom stretcher, as well as on the top of the table and the top of the hutch. The back profile of the hutch is a grained, rosewood veneer. The desk features a center drawer with old, dove tail joints. ... moreThe hutch features a center, open storage area, two side storage areas with doors, and a center drawer. The weight of it being considerable in it's solid core construction. Stamped on the underside"Made in Spain" the piece captures the spirit and vibrancy of the Louis XV period with utmost accuracy. The bronze mounts are exceptionally well done for the period, each almost entirely free of casting flaw, these filed and chiseled into perfection before being fire gilded. The female masks on the corners have a hammered texture, these being almost monumental in stature and projection from the legs. The top is a well preserved tooled gilt black leather edged in cross banded veneers and framed in a very thick gilt bronze rim with shell corners.
