I am not exact on the era but this was my 6 year old birthday present when I was in the first grade and they were clearing out the old desks. I know it is at least 50 years old. It has been moved several times and kept in a basement. The wood has dried out a lot and has cracks. It needs someone who can bring it back to life so it wil be beautiful again. For that special Teacher or Antique Collector; Offered is a rare and unique late 19 th Century school desk with folding seat made of beautifully figured wrought iron and what looks to be bird’s eye maple desk top with hole for an inkwell. There is also a routed slot in the desk top for a pencil/pen tray. The seat is highlighted with alternating light and dark wood strips. The iron casting bears the mark of the A V Andrews Company. Pictures show the excellent condition of this vintage Mid-Century Hunter Industries Metal Work Desk and Chair Set. This has been refurbished and has a new top made of pine. The original was damaged beyond repair. The pine top was put on to match the wood in our home as I had intended to keep this piece. The chair seat appears to be original with vintage mid-century pattern on vinyl. It does have a tear in it that needs to be glued or repaired in some other way. Desk top measures 36" x 18" and has a fiberglass cone shaped built-in gooseneck lamp. Has 2 side shelves and 1 full length shelf under desk top. Vintage Bolt Down Wood Wrought Iron School Desk and Bench Circa Early Mid 1900's
Made in Buffalo. New York. Vintage school desk. I can't confirm the manufacture date. The latest patent date marked on it is 1898, but I can only confirm that it was recovered in the early 1950's by a Portland, Oregon firefighter before his team burned a decrepit school house down for training. It's worn and has markings from students past. Including hearts and initials. There is a chunk of the shelf under the desktop broken off, shown clearly in the pictures. The desk itself is two-tone wood and the frame is wrought iron. MEASUREMENTS: The desk top is 28" high by 24" wide by 16" deep. The seat is 15" high by 24" wide by 13" deep. The seat back is 16" high by 24" wide and stands 31" tall off the ground. If the seat is folded up the desk measures 26" wide side to side.
