As I peruse the listings I see very similar desks all made in different places. In the days of these desks they must have been made more or less locally since there weren't highways and trucks to transport them around the country. This desk. As I presume the others as well, was patented, yet all the desks are pretty much the same. I don't understand that, maybe it was hard to enforce the patent laws back then. at any rate, this one was made by the S. S. Case Co. in Hartford. Connecticut prior to 1910. If you really want one of these desks and there isn't one local for you I am willing to ship this. It really is too large for me to find a box for it so it will have to go by freight. The desk weighs around 70lbs and I would strap it to a skid which weighs about 40 Lbs I would then stretch wrap it to keep it clean. I'm putting 130 in the freight calculator as the weight. But feel free to check other carriers on your own and I'll work with you. I've heard good things about Uship.com but you'll have to check them out for yourself. Antique School Master's Desk
This is a very handsome hardwood school master's desk from the 1870-1890 era. It has wear that might be expected with its age to the finish. But nothing obvious and it is ready for display. The desk is solid and all parts function as expected. I believe that it is made of cherry, but no guarantees. There are 3 interior drawers and all have tight, skillfully made dovetail joints. The dimensions are 39 1/2" high at the back of the desk, 23" deep and 33" wide.

Antique school desk. Except for hardware the desk top and cubby are made entirely of wood. Desktop does have a crack in the top of it with a little accompaning warp traveling the entire length of the desktop. See picture# 3. However there is a conspicuous lack of scratching. Gouging or grafitti. I don`t think this was ever sanded down either. The steel base may have been painted over at some time as I see brush marks in the paint job. Whatever the case it was done a long time ago. I`m pretty sure this was made for younger kids. I don`t think any kid beyond third or fourth grade would be comfortable in this all day. The size of the seat and base are a little on the small side. The top however is full sized. It also is old enough to be sporting an ink well hole. Seat is in great shape. Nothing loose. Minimal cracking if any. No warp. No graffiti. ... moreMeasurements. Desktop. 24 x 18 inches. Seat 14 x 12 inches. Minimum height of desktop from the ground. 22 1/2 to 24 inches. ANTIQUE SCHOOL DESK with Ink well and original graffitti! This desk was never refinished. it is as it was when taken out of the school. In Union City, Connecticut. It's in good condition ready for your re-finishing. As I peruse the listings I see very similar desks all made in different places. In the days of these desks they must have been made more or less locally since there weren't highways and trucks to transport them around the country. This desk. As I presume the others as well, was patented, yet all the desks are pretty much the same. I don't understand that, maybe it was hard to enforce the patent laws back then. at any rate, this one was made by the S. S. Case Co. in Hartford. Connecticut prior to 1910. If you really want one of these desks and there isn't one local for you I am willing to ship this. It really is ... moretoo large for me to find a box for it so it will have to go by freight. The desk weighs around 70lbs and I would strap it to a skid which weighs about 40 Lbs I would then stretch wrap it to keep it clean. I'm putting 130 in the freight calculator as the weight. Vintage Antique Old Wooden Desk One Room School House Tennessee Lovely Patina
Purchased many years ago by the current owner for a larger home than the bungalow* she now resides in. The owner of the store where she purchased it from had tagged it as about 100 years old from a one room schoolhouse in Tennessee. The photos say it best. I have included with and without flash photos so you can see its the hues in different lights. The patina is eye candy, and the strong grain stands smooth and proud with the natural sheen from decades of books sliding back and forth across it. The desk stands tight and level and is in superb original condition with all the original wood pieces, screws and hardware, including the desk latch/lock-simple yet efficient. The only non-original item is a small well done wood brace that you have to stick your head inside the desk and look up to find. The brace has brass round-head screws which ... moresuggests a post-war repair since flat-head iron screws are more common from pre-war construction and this type of fastening is what is used in the desk. It is approximately 21" inches wide and 20" deep, it stands 27" tall in front and 31" tall in back, the bottom shelf is 8" x 21" the inside of the desk storage area is 19" wide and 17" front to back and varies from 4" to 6" deep. I have looked at maybe 500 + photos of old school desks and have found only one of similar construction(and it is from England and is listed only as"Old School Desk" for $800 USD) This gives some credence to the one-room schoolhouse the dealer claimed. Probably built by a local carpenter out of Tennessee Pine or similar local wood just for this single classroom. I cannot guarantee any special providence or exact age for this item but can only tell you what the dealer told my client. How it was tagged and what I have found out in my research. Rare, Left Handed Oak School Desk REDUCED
Very rare. Left handed, solid oak school desk(writing surface is maple) from the early 1900's. I completely dis-assembled it, re-glued it, sanded, stained and sprayed it with two coats of satin polyurethane. Book storage racks underneath the seat. I sat in this kind of desk back in the early 40's but none of the ones in any of my classes were left handed. I just had to have it and if any of your children are left handed, you have to have it too.

Full wood construction, inkwell recess(the glass pot is missing, they're a few pounds on here if you want one, but most use as a pen holder) Unusual in the fact that it has metal bracing down the edges of the lift up section, high quality, actually came from a monestary. Hello. I'm selling my desk because I have a bigger one now. This is a turn of the century school desk with a one-piece hardwood top and iron legs. It's suitable for a smaller apartment or room. It is 28 inches high. And the wooden top is 18 deep by 30 inches across. The flat top has a lip of about half an inch high at the back of it. The desk is steady and sturdy. Quite heavy for such a small thing. It is excellent quality and has a romantic vintage feel. The wood on top is in good condition and it just needs a little oil every once in a while to keep it that way. Perfect for a small desk. I've done this for 30 plus years and have never run across a school desk like this before. It's a two seater. Or possibly three small children, more than likely from a one room schoolhouse around the turn-of-the-century. I think the wood is Ash or Chestnut, but not positive. The top and the seat is pegged to the base. There are screws holding the seat to the back support. It is absolutely wonderful. It measures 47" long by 37" wide and 38" tall. The desk can be raised also to different heights with a metal bar underneath that has two positions. The bar on the back of the chair also can be raised and lowered for proper back support. You are bidding on a vintage Moulthrop school desk made by Langslow-Fowler Co. in Rochester. New York. Desk was made around 1920's. Desk is made of oak and is in it's original condition. No restoration has been done. Desk top goes up and down, in and out. Has a drawer that pulls out from under seat for storing books. Local pick up only or buyer to arrange for shipping.

Vintage school desk/seat combination. The wood is all oak. This unit is in excellent condition. Both the wood and the cast iron legs/frame are excellent. No chips. Cracks, breaks or repairs in either. The cast iron metal casting is beautiful. The curved portion of the seat where you sit folds up and down like a charm. Cast on both sides is PL4. Note that all the flared casting are perfect for floor mounting. No breaks or chips in any of the feet. It has the place for the ink well. There is wear on the desktop. It was used in a public elementary school environment c. 1910-1940. About 41" wide x 27" deep x 32-1/2" high. It weighs about 75# This item will need to be shipped freight. antique school desk. MASTER'S DESK. Shannondoah Valley piece. 19th Century
This desk has been in my family 25 years. Since I bought it in western Virginia in the Shannondoah Valley in a shop. It appears to be cherry wood. There are places where wood has been retailed but no wood is missing. I can send many small pictures of areas. It is very sturdy and in excellent condition. The lid provides lots of storage of technology. Pictures and small books. The knobs are original to our purchase. Nothing has changed on the desk since we bought it. We are selling it only because we need to. Thanks for looing.
