The dove tail drawer and writing board pull out with ease. Condition good. Has scratch and nicks in the wood under the finish, gives it a wonderful rustic look. The legs have solid brass caps. Antique Student desk made by Heywood Wakefield. Patent date is July 4, 1916. Desk has a fold down bench attached to the front end, this is where the student in front of you would sit. Very neat looking old desk, would make a great restoration project. Desk surface has writing& carvings. Missing the bottom portion of the tray where the student would store his or her books. This came to me with a little note about the history of the piece. States that"it was removed from a school on Idlewild Ave in Easton MD before it was torn down. Glad someone could save this piece. The one condition problem is very slight and is seen on the leg in the last photo. other than that. This chair is in wonderful condition and super sturdy. The legs have not been cut, it appears it might have been refinished but it could be the original oak finish. I do not pretend to be an expert and so cannot say for sure. The pure, simple and elegant design on the top of the chair back support is incredible to see and the chair displays incredibly well.
