Probably c. 1910-30 Item# 130008GQJ26 Crafted during the first years of the ... more20th Century. When fervor for antiques of the Louis XV taste were still at a remarkable high, this very attractive French Louis XV Bureau Plat was embellished with great effort. Featuring a solid mahogany top with a molded edge, the front of the bureau plat has a long hand dovetailed drawer for storage, opening to reveal a solid golden oak interior. The keyhole escutcheon is probably the finest bronze mount on the desk, a piece that prominently features the rocaille movement around the fully functioning key and lock. The apron is shapely, the front and back mirroring the flow of the top with a slight inversion in the middle. The cabriole legs are formed with very fine gate, the tapering form nearly perfect in proportion to the table, each surmounted with an intense rocaille Gilt bronze mount with the"C" form featured actively as it curls over the entire knee- a thin reed of gilt bronze continues to flow down the leg into the beautiful Gilt bronze sabot mounts with curling toes. This is a fully functional piece. Not just being a beautiful decorative art, the form being sturdy and strong throughout with a clean writing surface. For decorators passionate about the French Louis XV form, this is a wonderful find. Measurements: 39 1/2" wide x 23 7/8" deep x 29 1/4" high to top of desk; 24 1/8" high to underside of drawer(when sitting) Condition Report: Light dings and chips throughout. Including some loss to the corners of the drawer, a small"dent" in the top and scuffing to the top. Overall very attractive, the typical wear and use abrasions being somewhat limited and the overall desk being quite well preserved. The bronzes are of medium quality with some pitting and cracks from the foundry process- we believe the mounts are unsigned, though only one sabot has been removed and examined. French Louis XV Style Antique Bureau Plat Desk w/ Gilt Bronze Mounts c. 1910-30
French Louis XV Style Gilt Mounted Mahogany Bureau Plat Early 20th Century. Probably c. 1910-30 Item# 130008GQJ26 Crafted during the first years of the 20th Century. When fervor for antiques of the Louis XV taste were still at a remarkable high, this very attractive French Louis XV Bureau Plat was embellished with great effort. Featuring a solid mahogany top with a molded edge, the front of the bureau plat has a long hand dovetailed drawer for storage, opening to reveal a solid golden oak interior. The keyhole escutcheon is probably the finest bronze mount on the desk, a piece that prominently features the rocaille movement around the fully functioning key and lock. The apron is shapely, the front and back mirroring the flow of the top with a slight inversion in the middle. The cabriole legs are formed with very fine gate, the tapering form ... morenearly perfect in proportion to the table, each surmounted with an intense rocaille Gilt bronze mount with the"C" form featured actively as it curls over the entire knee- a thin reed of gilt bronze continues to flow down the leg into the beautiful Gilt bronze sabot mounts with curling toes. This is a fully functional piece. Not just being a beautiful decorative art, the form being sturdy and strong throughout with a clean writing surface. For decorators passionate about the French Louis XV form, this is a wonderful find. Measurements: 39 1/2" wide x 23 7/8" deep x 29 1/4" high to top of desk; 24 1/8" high to underside of drawer(when sitting) Condition Report: Light dings and chips throughout. Including some loss to the corners of the drawer, a small"dent" in the top and scuffing to the top. Overall very attractive, the typical wear and use abrasions being somewhat limited and the overall desk being quite well preserved. The bronzes are of medium quality with some pitting and cracks from the foundry process- we believe the mounts are unsigned, though only one sabot has been removed and examined. The purchase price of the secretary at the time was $3.500. We were advised the original value was three times that. It is a custom hand made item of imposing work. The large secretary was located in the Presidential Suite at the St. Regis. It is quite sturdy weighing more than 300 lbs. And measures 90” x 42” x 20” There is ample work space and storage space with three large drawers under the fold down desktop. The interior desktop region has twelve storage sections with three pull out drawers. The top section of the secretary presents with glass doors with three shelves inside.

Up for Auction is a stunning highly collectible John Widdicomb Chinoiserie French Louis XV Style Writing Desk. This desk is a piece of Art! These Widdicomb pieces rarely come up for Auction. The original cost was very $$$$$$$$. This work of Art is embossed with Oriental painted gold leaf scenes. Floral hand applied decoration as well as painted guilding throughout the desk. On top the desk has hand tooled leather with gold detail around edging. On the legs and feet of the desk is thick brass ormolu. This desk is in amazing condition. Structurally as sound as the day it was made. It shows very little wear at all. There are small little nicks and a few light scratch marks on the leather top which is typical wear. FRENCH LOUIS XV STYLE ORMOLU MOUNTED KINGWOOD BUREAU PLAT 20th Century. Crafted in Spain Item# 411ILK17Z This is an unusually well crafted bureau plat. The weight of it being considerable in it's solid core construction. Stamped on the underside"Made in Spain" the piece captures the spirit and vibrancy of the Louis XV period with utmost accuracy. The bronze mounts are exceptionally well done for the period, each almost entirely free of casting flaw, these filed and chiseled into perfection before being fire gilded. The female masks on the corners have a hammered texture, these being almost monumental in stature and projection from the legs. The top is a well preserved tooled gilt black leather edged in cross banded veneers and framed in a very thick gilt bronze rim with shell corners. One side of the desk has three drawers, ... moreall dovetailed, the other side with three faux drawer fronts. The entire desk rests over bold cabriole legs that terminate in scrolled sabots.
