There is a name and year written on the bottom of the desk, but it is very faint and can only be seen while hold the desk at a certain angle to the light. I tried to capture the writing in a picture, but could only get the first part of the name. The name stands out the most. The rest of the writing, I believe would be where the owner lived and the year is much fainter. It looks like Maggie C Farr(something) something) 1876 or 1896. The box measures about 11 ¼” x 7 3/4” x 3 ½” closed) Opened and lying flat the desk measures about 16” long. The inside bottom felt writing surface that lifts up is tight and strong while the top felt writing surface that lifts up is wiggly, but still very much intact. Very nice old lap desk. With a coloured lacquered wood floral design to the top and finished ... morewith a tassel. The top has the most lovely design of flowers and outlining in coloured and textured pyrography- where the wood was decorated with hot tools to produce a raised and textured effect. This box has a rather Art Nouveau look to it. The box has a little drilled hole in the side of the base. Through which fine string or ribbon can be threaded and then pulled out beneath the top, but it can also be used as a standard box for holding paperclips or small items on a desk or dressing table. The item is nicely made and has an old paper label underneath which reads"Au Printemps" So I think this was orignally sold in France. Condition is overall very good. Ut there is some wear to the green varnished areas in the top design- but this is still a lovely and rare piece. If used as a string box. I feel this would be best suited to thin string, thread or twine, as shown in the picture- and will be included with the box- rather than thick string. These great vintage bookends by Enesco are in the style of antique school desks and are made of wood and cast iron. Little red& green painted wooden books titled. Writing, Reading, Arithmetic& History" are attached to the desk backs. The books. Base and desk tops are made of wood and the desk legs are made of ornamental cast iron. The desk tops are inscribed with"School Daze, tic-tac-toe, and little heart markings. They each have a little black ink bottle, an apple is on the right bookend on the top surface. Antique school desk. Except for hardware the desk top and cubby are made entirely of wood. Desktop does have a crack in the top of it with a little accompaning warp traveling the entire length of the desktop. See picture# 3. However there is a conspicuous lack of scratching. Gouging or grafitti. I don`t think this was ever sanded down either. The steel base may have been painted over at some time as I see brush marks in the paint job. Whatever the case it was done a long time ago. I`m pretty sure this was made for younger kids. I don`t think any kid beyond third or fourth grade would be comfortable in this all day. The size of the seat and base are a little on the small side. The top however is full sized. It also is old enough to be sporting an ink well hole. Seat is in great shape. Nothing loose. Minimal cracking if any. No warp. No graffiti. ... moreMeasurements. Desktop. 24 x 18 inches. Seat 14 x 12 inches. Minimum height of desktop from the ground. 22 1/2 to 24 inches. It`s tapered. 22 1/2 inches at the low end and 24 inches at the high end. Both top and seats heights are adjustable. The top has an apprx. 6 inch adjustment range and the seat apprx. 4 inches. So you can move them up from the values described above. Adjustments made by setting a 1/4 hex nut. See picture# 6. Thats for the top. The seat has an identical set screw of it`s own. If you leave that screw loose the seat swivels. Thats a nice bonus but it only works if the seats all the way down. Base measures 28 1/4 x 18 1/4 inches. Weight without packaging apprx. 45 lbs. First of all this piece stands 48 high x 43 wide x 21 deep This piece is heads and shoulders above any other"Butler's desks" that I and others have personally even. The piece id very old, early 1800's when the holes for the hardware were carved in, and the other tool markings are just as primitive, although the workmanship is fantastic. On this piece, the veneer is all in really great shape! Ther'es no\bubbling, or chipping like you would see in much later pieces. even veneer piece made as late as the 1970's have shown tremendous damage from wear ... moreor even daily polishing. The set up for this piece is like this; Two side by side drawers across the very top, then, one single oversized drawer front, which opens and"drops down" to act as a writing surface, by first pulling the entire panel straight out like a drawer, then pressing both buttons in on the spring loaded latch located on both ends of the panel) exposing all the little compartments and drawers inside, and the backside of the front panel which drops down has a soft, recessed fabric on it for writing which has been left in the original worn condition for the antique value. Obviously if one wasa to keep this piece and want to use it which could and should be done, this would be very easy to replace and it would bring back greatness to this piece. Like New Condition Solid wooden school desk chair. We acquired this item years ago. Prior to us b uying this chair. We encountered some great pieces but found that they had lead paint and stain. We wanted to use this type of chair for the little ones in our house and realized th at any vi ntage/ antique furniture would need to be bare wood. It was in mediocare condition so we decided to restore it. All the paint and finish has been completely removed. Chair is unfinished wood at the present time. I am not exact on the era but this was my 6 year old birthday present when I was in the first grade and they were clearing out the old desks. I know it is at least 50 years old. There was a repair made under one corner with metal braces, I guess it was wobbly. It is solid now, no problems. It has a satin finish on it now or you can recoat it if you want shiny. Circa 1900 Antique Hand Carved Wood Woman's Writing Desk From Mexico
One of a kind. Very good condition woman's writing desk from Mexico, circa 1900. This one of a kind piece has no screws or glue, and fits like a puzzle! This desk was brought to the United States circa 1970 from Durango, Mexico by my Grandmother. She in turn received it from her piano teacher years before! The desk shows quite well, as it has only been used as a decorative piece since at least 1970. Please note, all pieces are present, although the drawer handle needs to be reattached.

I've done this for 30 plus years and have never run across a school desk like this before. It's a two seater. Or possibly three small children, more than likely from a one room schoolhouse around the turn-of-the-century. I think the wood is Ash or Chestnut, but not positive. The top and the seat is pegged to the base. There are screws holding the seat to the back support. It is absolutely wonderful. It measures 47" long by 37" wide and 38" tall. Style, etc) to hang it on without any success. The reason being- I really like it. It's a dandy. It's un-restored. Hardwood(not quite sure which) The iron is semi-ornate foundry quality. The wood resembles gun/rifle-stock. I'd like to tell you more about it if I could. If anyone can offer additional info. I'm all ears(and eyes) please do. Dimensions are(at furthest points) 30" Wide/ 15" High from Top shelf to Bottom of Iron/ 8" Deep. The 2 face surfaces. From a New Hampshire estate and for your consideration is a Mission Style mahogany slant drop front writing desk produced by the Novelty Wood Works Co. 1897-1912) of Union City. PA. The desk is 30.25" wide and 32" tall and 15" deep. The height of the writing surface is 15. I estimate the age of this desk to be approximately 110 years. It is in good to very good condition with some light surface scratches and cup marks as pictured. More wear is shown(appropriately) inside on the work surface. There is evidence of use(and age) by the scuffing marks on the inside walls from opening and closing the desktop. This desk does not take up much space so would work great in smaller areas. Antique Vintage All Wood School Desk Chair Top Child Industrial Machine Age
This is an all wood antique child's chair top. It is in good condition. A few of the curved backing pieces need a little glue and a vice overnight to tighten them up to the top backrest. The piece is solid other than that. This is very old. Strong wood which has some gorgeous curvature to it. The bottom of the chair which is sat on is about 14.5" deep. The back of the chair is about 15 10/16" tall.

Pretty carved wood and sleek curvy Queen Anne legs. Unknown age. Very cute, all wood, no veneer. The drawer opens and closes smoothly but there is a crack in the drawer bottom. The desk portion has some areas stained by something dark, maybe ink. Trim piece on the top is loose, and it could use a general tightening up. Please check out the pics. Vintage Drop Leaf Secretary Wood Desk - Johnson-Handley Johnson Co. L@@K
Hi. I am selling this really nice vintage desk. On the back there is the number 2449. Inside the top drawer is the metal label of Johnson-Handley Johnson Co. I have included a picture. The drawers are dove tailed and all of the drawers glide smoothly. This desk is very solid and very nice. But there are few small things I would like to point out. I have not polished or done anything to it since I received, including not dusting. There are some water rings on top, also a scrape on the top back left hand corner. On the first large drawer, down in the very right hand corner of it is a chip. Also on the left hand side there is a slight gap, probably just needs a tap but I don't do those things. It measures 42" tall, 33" wide, and 18" deep. This item is a pick up only. I am located about 25 miles south of San Francisco. It is ... morea very beautiful piece. A very unique and well made little desk. Desk and seat are adjustable in height. Desk surface has a hole for a glass ink well. The seat's swivel mechanism is stamped PAT'D JUL 28 25.
