Each of the drawers has a working lock and the key is included. There are 3 glass shelves on the upper center and 6 wood shelves in the upper left and right unit. Each of lower doors conceals one wood shelf. The upper unit is lighted but the current cord should be replaced. This item is in wonderful antique condition with only minor signs of age appropriate wear as pictured. Beautiful Antique Mahogany English Inlaid Desk
You are bidding on a beautiful Antique Mahogany English Inlaid Desk. Unsure exactly how old this desk is but I have been told that it is possibly from the mid to late 1800's. There is such great detail all around this desk. On the top part of the desk there are two doors which slide open and closed. Which resembles an accordian. When the doors are open there are small pull out drawers and compartments to put pins, tacks, ink, letters, ect. The desk also has two pull out drawers on the bottom front of the desk. On the pull out drawers there are two handles for each drawer and each handle has a"hand painted porcelain piece" There are two areas that may need very little tlc. There are 2 seperate key holds which one used to lock the top two doors and the other locks the bottom pull out drawers. The lip of the desk extends so that ... moreone is able to write letters. When the lip of the desk is extended you can see the key hole just below where the two compartment doors meet. This locks the top. The lower part of the desk has two drawers each with it's own key hole for locking. As I mentioned. There are two area that may need a bit of tlc. The first area is in the front of the desk there are 2 doors, which easily slides open and closed. On both ends of the doors they are missing the edge of the door, which had a small latch in the middle. When the lip of the desk extends and both doors are closed they were able to be locked by the key hole which is located just underneath the lip of the desk. The second area that needs tlc is that one of the bottom drawers needs to have a ringlet placed back on. There would be no need to purchase the ringlet due to it being inside the desk. The ringlet came off during a move. I picked up this item at an estate sale in San Franscisco. California and it is a gorgeous piece of furniture. The style has become more popular as time has gone by. While having been made around 1940. This partners desk was probably not used by the military, but was made in that style. Both sides are identical and consist of a large cabinet in the left pedestal and a bank of regular drawers in the right. The middle drawers have locks but no key remains. The top is a lovely black leather that appears new. This leather has a lovely gold tooling around the outside. Leather makes a fabulous writing and work surface and has an incredibly handsome look.
