Ornate Wood Burning Stove Door with Tile Insert
This is one beautiful door for an old wood burning stove. We have no idea what stove this went to. But we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to offer it. The door is made of cast iron and appears to be in very good condition. There does not appear to be any significant rust and what little rust there is appears to be only on the surface. The handle appears to have originally been nickel-plated. Much of which has worn off. The centerpiece of this door is the beautiful ceramic tile insert. We cannot guarantee that this was the original tile. But is does appear to be old as a careful inspection shows some light crazing. The door measures about 20” long and 12” tall. The door hinges are not broken and the original pins are still in place. One of the latches might be broken. But it is hard to tell since it is worn so smoothly. There is a thin sheet ... moremetal protector on the inside that does show significant rust damage. But is not visible and could easily be replaced if desired. For sale is a" STEWART" stove door. Found this all metal greyish and white door without the stove anywhere in sight. Awaits your project or decor. This door is for either an old gas or wood cooking stove and is in pretty good shape. There are no hinges and the back(see pictures) has'holes' where the hinges once were. Also is missing a couple bolts/screws(could be hinge related) The front does have some staining and rust spots(mainly around the edges) but otherwise looks nice. Has" STEWART" written right in the middle. About 19 1/2" long. 12 3/4" wide, and weighs around 10 1/2 pounds. A solid piece that I could not pass up and know someone has a great use for. The 6" long handle is intact and firmly attached. This door will certainly need some rehab work if it is once again going to be put on a stove ... morebut I think it could be a valuable addition. This style of warming oven is meant to sit on top of your conventional kitchen stove or wood stove and the radiant heat that rises works to bake pies and bread and to keep cooked food warm. The oven stands 11 ¼” tall. Is 11 ½” wide, and 10” deep. There are two shelves inside. Both shelves are removable and the bottom shelf has a square sheet of metal attached to it underneath for either heating purposes or to keep the flames from reaching anything on the shelves. This steel oven is not marked anywhere ... morewith any manufacturers information. It still has most of its original black paint and the two original shelves inside. The door closes and latches securely. The glass window is intact with no cracks or chips, and the Heat Indicator thermostat is in place and work. I cannot tell you how accurately it works, but I did put the oven on my stove top and turned the electric burner to High– the thermostat started moving almost immediately and went from Low to Medium to High in about 5 minutes. The metal oven does get very hot so it needs to be handled very carefully and not by children. This old primitive oven is in very good condition with just a few flaws. At some point. This oven must have been dropped on a hard floor where it made impact with the bottom right front corner. As a result, there is a minor dent in the steel and the oven does not sit flat like it should.but it still heats up fine. There is some missing paint on the top and some of the silver metal shows through and there is some very light rust coloring. There are also some scratches here and there and some flaking paint. Here we have a nice stove board from WABASH SCREENDOOR Co. of Minneapolis. Minn. produced from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. Designed to protect the floor under a wood/coal stove from hot coals and the feet of the stove. Consists of 2 layers of wood slats that are then covered with a metal panel that is crimped around the edge of the boards. The wood side is embossed with the Wabash Screendoor Co. logo while the metal side has a nice color and design. As you can see this one still has some pencil writing on the bottom/ wood side. Possibly maker and price. This piece measures 32" x 42" x approx. 3/4" thick and is in great condition. Wood side is very clean with somewhat of a very good logo.
