Antique Cribben & Sexton Gas/Wood/Coal Universal Cook Stove
Antique Cribben and Sexton Stove. I am second owner of this stove tho have stored it for 30 years awaiting purchase of house with a kitchen large enough to accomodate it. I have never used the stove tho cooktop was in use by original owner. Specific date of stove 1915-1918 assuming by patent stamps on various pieces. Issues are predominately with gas supply. The linkage that raises and lowers the oven burner to control oven temperature has snapped tho both cast iron pieces fit and could be welded. The linkage that extends to the front of the stove which allows gas to the oven and broiler is snapped and the front piece is missing(photo) The gas valve to the broiler is missing as is the standard black pipe supply. The firebox liners have been overheated(photo) and do not seem to fit in properly.Homestead stoves for replacements) Also missing ... moreis the firebox shaker. The cast iron vent is intact. Porcelain is good with small chip on one cooktop handle. Only two of the original cooktop grilles available. Oven grates. Broiler trays good, thermometer, and ash pan all good. Graceful Universal No. 350 Stove. Built by Universal Stoves and Ranges in Chicago, IL. As can be seen. This stove has a significant amount of nickel, all in very good shape with just a little tarnishing. A good polish would bring life back to this stove in no time. There is a patent date shown on the back with the date of July 16, 1912. This unique stove has been in our family for almost 50 years. Our father had done some refurbishing on the stove. But never finished. One thing he did accomplish was to have a mould crafted for the creation of a front door that had been missing when he acquired the stove. This mould will come with the unit. Some of the Isinglass(mica) is still in need of replacement. The original intentions were to bring the stove back to full operation, but that never happened. Meanwhile, it has been a beautiful piece on ... moredisplay in his home for the past 30 years. This stove should go to someone who would truly appreciate its grandeur and detail. He had a Antique stove refurbishing business, and had a picture of this exact model stove on his website. I asked him how much the stove was worth. He said, Not sure, I've never seen one" I told him it was the same stove he had on his homepage. He laughed. Told me he got the picture from another website. I was intrigued. He went on to tell me the reason he used the picture of this particular model was because he thought it was the prettiest stove he'd ever seen. Thought it would look great on his homepage. While we were on the phone, he pulled some Cribben& Sexton Co. books off his shelf, and said, No wonder I've never ... moreseen one of these. They only made 1000 of this model" Now. The woman I bought this stove from owned a Southwest store in the San Diego area in the 40's to the 70's. She rubbed elbows with some pretty knowledgeable people. As a matter of fact. I bought 3 collections of arrowheads from her as well. My wife and I drove from Oregon to San Diego and met her at her house. We disassembled the stove and stowed it in the back of my truck. She and her husband had had the stove expertly refurbished in 1970. She indicated that it was re-nickeled at the same time. It hasn't been used as a stove since at least 1940. Other than how nice this woman was to me and my wife, the one thing I'll always remember about that day was her standing on the front porch crying as we bid her farewell. I own a Lodge in Oregon, and have a cool(temperature) spot in my lobby. I thought I'd outfit the stove with a propane burner, but decided against it. I felt like cutting into it would be like drawing a cartoon of Bart Simpson next to The Mona Lisa. Anyway. I have up for sale a very hard to find"Apartment Size" CRIBBEN& SEXTON CO Model 200-M 3 burner gas oven/ stove. It is in Outstanding Original Condition- this is about as good as it gets for an item of this sort. The stove stands approx 33" tall to the top section where the grates and heating surface is. Approx 51" total height to the top of the hood/ back section. It measures approx 27-1/2" across at the top grate warmer section and It weighs just over 100 lbs.From front to back it measures roughly 20" deep, that is including the backside small pipe section and from the very front part where the burner knobs are. This is one of the smallest size stoves of this type, perfect for a small kitchen, a hunting shack, deer camp, cottage,etc. In 1913 Cribben& Sexton started producing the first gas powered stoves ... morein the US. Beautiful 1940's Universal'Marlboro' gas range. Stove features two ovens. Two storage drawers, four gas burners, timer and the original salt and pepper shakers. I purchased this stove from an estate sale where it had been in the family for over 60 years. Stove works and is in great condition. Some minor chips to porcelain enamel on side, around burners and on timer(see photo) but I imagine can be easily repaired with porcelain touch-up. We love this stove. But it needs some TLC. Gorgeous Antique Elegant Regal Universal No.716 Stove Wood Coal Parlor Stove
I had intended to restore it put it in my house but the insurance company did not like the idea and I did not want to cut into it to adapt it. Very few of these Cribben and Sexton Display models were made. At the time the cost of a regular home stove from them was 15$ and this model was $140. Considering the avg salary at the time was 1$ a day it was very expensive. I can deliver the stove near to me in Toledo Ohio. Model# 2042 TMX. these stoves were made in the 1920's and 30's. It measures 36" tall with a 2 3/4" back splash. 40" wide and 22" deep. It is a porcelain enameled steel stove with a cream color and a jade green marble type finish. It includes the oven racks and the drip pans. The woman we got it from said it is in working condition and it seems to be intact. The bracket that holds open the burner cover broke while we were moving it, but it could be repaired or replaced. I cleaned it a bit, It will need a deeper cleaning if you intend to use it. It has some dirt and some rust but it is in excellent condition considering it's age. Great Retro find! Vintage Berkshire Universal 4 burner gas stove. Porcelain white top. Nice chrome finishings. Should be able to be cleaned to original shine! Just a few very chips and imperfections-nothing some porcelain paint won't take care of. Surrounds of the burners lift up and off for cleaning. Measures: 40 inches wide. 26 inches deep, and 45 inches high. Stove has oven on the right hand side and a separate broiler on the left. One drawer and one pull down storage under the oven and broiler. Broiler inside measures 17 inches wide. 10 inches high and 17 inches deep. This is a cast-iron lid lifter for potbelly and other stoves. Made by"Universal stoves and ranges.The larger size end would normally hook onto the stove at it's metal ring or nickel ring. The smaller end is for lifting the lid off the stove. The hole in the center is for hanging the trivet. If needed. There is normal wear on this handle, it has some corrosion on the inner aspect. This lid lifter is in perfect shape no cracks. No breaks no problems, And made by Universal stoves and ranges The number on the inside is difficult for me to read, 14, unsure.
