Offered is a cast iron stove eye lifter. These were used to lift the eyes. Or lids, on old cook and heating stoves, as well as agitate the ash grates. The embossing on the handle is too weak for me to read so I am unable to connect it with a particular maker or era. It's obviously an older piece. The lifter is about 8-3/4 inches long and weighs about 7 ounces. I can't find the slightest damage beyond light use marks and some surface roughness. Likely from the original casting. The end of lifting lug is about 7/8 by 3/8 by 1/8 inches, and tapers. These can sometimes be ground a bit to fit a particular eye. The square end is about 1/2 by 5/8 inches. These were sometimes used to adjust internal oven vents in cookstoves as well. I've posted lots of pictures so you can look it over. For sale is a rare& very old& primitive antique kitchen& cooking utensil tool. It was designed for several chores around the hearth including lifting the lids off of wood& coal stoves& also has a curved hook like design for lifting the bails of hot kettles& cook pots, also has a opening above the stove lift tongue to hook on the side of a kettle or pot& tilt the pot too. also has a small"hammer" head underneath the stove lift for driving tacks& small nails around the house. it does have a large series of holes all thru the handle, designed to help keep it from getting too hot on the stove or at the kettle. a lot of these old primitive kitchen tools have a long gone broken off end or hook on them, this 1 has no damage anywhere. it is made of cast iron, it has the"gate-marks" on the side showing ... morewere it was cast in a mold, the ruler tells the size, I haven't cleaned it as some people like the old surface patina, it does have the surface oxidation as shown but no pitting or damage. would clean right up to clean cast metal if desired. a very unique tool made way back around turn of the 19th-20th century when making crazy designs for multiple task uses around the kitchen was in style. please see my other listings for 2 other early primitive iron kitchen multi use tools, can combine shipping on multiple items if you want a of them. please email with any questions before bidding as all sales are final. Believed to be the tool for the#2 Parlor Stove pat. 1898 by Weir Stove Co. The tool does have signs of age such as rust and discoloration. But seems to surface only is not affecting the overall metal or use of the tool. Used with my antique stove for years. I upgraded to different style so the tool does not fit the lid anymore.
