This auction is for a very rare Union stove works Grand No 6 stove Comes with everything shown in the photo. This stove is simply AMAZING! I have never seen anything even close to this nice from the Union Stove Works company. Or any stove company for that matter. After much research I have discovered that this is a sad iron stove. A sad Iron is a solid iron.well iron that you would have to heat up in some manner prior to using it. That is where this stove comes in. Notice the iron rust"stains" on the top. They are from a sad iron. The top and bottom are brass. This stove was obviously a high end product ... moreback in the day. It has 18"gemstones" on the front. And it is very ornately decorated with fine details. I do not claim that they are actually precious gemstones* There is a serial# on the copper tag on the side. It is 15885. There is some obvious rust on the grate and the insides of the stove. There is also some rust on the front and back side of the stove. I am sure that this stove will need some repairs and a cleaning before it could be used again. I will leave that up to the buyer. There is a crack on the left bottom front side. It starts at the left bottom edge of the door opening and continues to the bottom edge of the stove. This old Camp kerosene heater/stove is in good solid condition. No rust other than some age/use grime. The 2 brass wick adjusters turn the wicks and the brass filler cap is not stuck. The inside of the cast iron tank looks clean. One of the mica inserts has a hole as noted on Photo No. 7. RARE Antique Metal Cast Iron Myers Stove Golden Star No 4 Sad Iron Heater 1882
I have searched the last 10 years of eBay data and cannot find another example of the stove. So to say it's unique is probably an understatement! It is constructed out of cast-iron with the wick and risers constructed out of a lighter metal. The front of the stove reads"Myers. Osborne& CO. NO 4 GOLDEN STAR 1882" With one side at the base reading"CHICAGO, ILL. And the other side reads"CLEVELAND, O. The dimensions are at the base it is 18" wide by 13" Tall by 14" deep. The flat iron platform is 16-1/2" wide by 10-1/4" deep. I did not see any cracks in the casting anywhere. The tin metal that goes around the top of the stove has been replaced at some point and it does have some corrosion damage along the bottom. The wick flues have also been replaced at some point with a newer tin metal. The ... morefront glass windows have been replaced with plastic so this unit has been used for display only recently. This auction is for a cast iron kerosene sad iron heater. It has 2 burners. On the front it says. Union. On the top of the fuel tank it says, Gardner, Mass, USA& C.O. G. S. Co. In front middle of the burners it says 2-CR and on the left it says 20 and on the right it says UL. Then on top of the burner in the front. It says 19-Ul(I think) These types of stoves were available starting in the 1880s. One advantage was you didn’t have to heat your big stove and heat up the whole house. When you iron with a sad iron you use a hot one while another is heating up. The front of each unit has a mica window to see the flame. They slide sideways. There are wicks in the burners although they do not turn. I assume they need cleaning with penetrating oil because they haven’t been used in a long time. Puritan Sad Iron Single Burner Heater Here's an 1890's Puritan single burner sad iron(flat iron) heater with a very heavy base. These burners were used to heat the sad or flat iron to press the family laundry prior to the introduction of electricity. These irons had patent dates ranging between 1865 to 1901. There's a cork stopper where you'd put the kerosene in. The Puritan label on the base is in very good condition for the age of this piece. There are a few breaks in the mica front but it is present and intact. Top portion is quite rusty; the bottom portion. Painted black, is wearing quite well. DESCRIPTION: This auction is for an Antique Summer Girl Cast Iron Kerosene/Oil Burning Sad Iron Heater. It has also been described elsewhere as a railroad camp cook stove. In reality. These heaters were used to keep the sad irons hot enough to press the family's clothing. The wide wick generated heat to the entire bottom of the iron, thus heating it quickly. The total unit is 9" tall; the base reservoir is by 6" wide by 4" deep. The oil reservoir is entirely cast iron which was painted black. There is a brass knob on the side of the base for adjusting the height of the wick. It works smoothly and easily. The wick is still there. The chimney is metal with a cast iron burner on top. It is attached to the reservoir base by hinges on the front side; and it can be removed completely. The reservoir base is marked in raised letters ... morein the casting: No 1 SUMMER GIRL on the top of the hinged side of the reservoir; on the other side's top: PATD. DEC. 26, 1893. This item does have some issues it has some rust holes and the top plate is missing a corner. The knobs for the wicks do turn but only the one on the right side actually works, I tried to remove the fuel cap but it is on very tight or rusted in place. one of the mica widows is gone and the other one shows its age. The hinge is intact and this item does open up as it is supposed to. This is great decorating piece as is, if you like the rusty gold look. Or it would make a neat restoration project. Antique Dual Burner Sad Iron Heater/kerosene Stove
Here we have an Antique Dual Burner Sad Iron Heater/Kerosene Stove. I believe this item is from the late 1800's. This stove is in very good condition. It appears to be complete and in tact. Except for one of the burner screens is missing. There is no damage to the cast iron bottom/tank or to the metal stove itself. The 2 burner dials move the wicks up and down but the right dial is sticky/hard to turn. The right view window covering is flimsy. The fill cap for the tank will need a new cork insert in order to seal properly. I Have NOT Tested This Item. Now that I've beat up the description of my stove. Let me clarify. This Is A Really NICE Old Piece! Especially when you take into consideration it's about 125 years old. The stove measures 8 1/2" tall by 5 3/4" squared and weighs about 5 lbs. 1890's Vintage Glazier Stove Co. Heater, Stove, Flat Iron, Sad Iron, Lantern
Manufactured in the late 1890's by the Glazier Stove Company in Michigan. Branded with their trademark"B&B" For the Brightest and Best stoves around! Often referred to as Sadirons. Or Flatirons, these little cast iron appliances were often used as mini-stoves for heating small pots of water or for irons. They could also be used as room heaters or even carried as a lantern with the finger grip found in the back. Fueled usually by kerosene. They were even placed on, and used instead of, a larger stove during the warm summer months to reduce the heat build-up in the kitchen. They were also used to keep greenhouses warm in the cooler months. The mica window(cracked on this stove, but still intact) withstood the heat and provided illumination. This stove is in good condition. As mentioned. The mica window is slightly cracked ... moreand"flakey" and there is a missing plug for the fuel reservoir. Inside, there is still a section of the 4" wide single wick. The top hinges opens for wick replacement, or take completely off for more thorough cleaning. Stands 10.5" tall. 7" wide, 5" deep, not including handle.

Glass tank has Jan 2 1877 embossed on it(I can't believe glass made it this long) Adjusting knob on the side has a date of Mar.29.1881.If it wasn't for the glass tank, this would be just another sad,flat iron heater. When you look at the tank, you just know it's old glass! No identifying mark's.Still has cellulose window halve stuck on. Measurements are 9 1/8 high, 6 3/4 wide at the base, 4 7/8 deep, not including handle. 4 inch wide wick included. GOOD LUCK!

Up for consideration is a. Vintage Glazier Stove Co. Sad Iron, Flat Iron Heater, Stove, Mica Window Lantern. I'm not sure when it was made. But i'm thinking the turn of the century era. It is in excellent vintage condition. I cleaned it up a bit. But it could use a good cleaning. On the front it says: The Brightest and the Best It stands 8 1/2in. tall X 6in. wide X 3 1/2in. The mica window is still in good shape. It has a wick but I hav'nt tested it. The adjustment knob works great! The wick goes up and down as it should. I don't see any reason that it will not work. It has 2 top grate openings and 3 removeable heat plates. One of the top grates on the right side has a piece of the bottom ring edge missing. The center section has the door. Marked The A&W Co. Chicago. Three knobs and on the bottom is an attached fuel tank with cap. The left side has Patent Oct. 26, 68 Sep.3, 78 Nov.4,78 Aug.10 80 Sep.7,80 Sep.18, 83 The stand is marked Manufactured By The A&W Mfg. Co. and on the bottom ... morebar is Boston Chicago New York. It has castor wheels which makes it easy to move about. It has the original paint. The 3 resins inside the stove are broke, the outside is good, the bottom plate on the stand has some rust and a small hole. Otherwise, a great looking antique stove. For sale is a nice old decorative sad iron heater. It has been painted with I think what's called stove black. That's what the person I got it from told me. He said he did it. The Mica is in tack and in good shape but it's painted over too. The part where the wick goes is little bent up but could be fixed if you wanted to use it.
