The round end(last photo) of the tool measures about 1-1/4" diameter. It also has a prong. But this is in the middle and tapers from about 1/4" to almost 1/2" The square opening is about 1/2" and tapers down to about 3/4" This lid lifter/ handle has been used, there is some light rust- but overall good condition. VTG ORNATE CI 9-1/2" COOK STOVE EYE / LID LIFTER ~ ANTIQUE WOOD COAL WRENCH TOOL
Offered is a cast iron stove eye lifter and shaker wrench tool. These were used to lift the eyes. Or lids on old cook and heating stoves. This piece is unmarked so I am unable to connect it with a particular maker or era. It has fairly ornate decoration indicating that it may have belonged to a fancier parlor stove. It is obviously an older piece. The lifter is about 9-1/2 inches long and weighs nearly 8 ounces. I can't find the slightest damage beyond light use marks and some surface roughness. Likely from the original casting. The end of lifting lug is about 3/4 by 5/8 by 1/8 inches, and is thumbnail-shaped. These can sometimes be ground a bit to fit a particular eye. What I'm calling a shaker wrench on the opposite end may is a sort of lugged affair. I'm not sure exactly how it works. This part of the tool may also be for adjusting ... moreinterior vents, particularly in cookstove ovens. I've posted lots of pictures so you can look it over.
