Antique Parlor Stove Gas Wood Coal Nickel Trim
Antique cast iron parlor stove that apparently burned coal. Wood or ran on gas. The gas burner is gone from the inside, leaving the vent and gas pipe bracket on the right side. The interior is all there including the coal grate and ash tray. They must have used it for burning coal at one time. No rust through on outside sheet metal. The nickel plated trim is still very nice but there is a weld repair on the front foot rest rail. You can see this in one of the photos. It is a nice smooth repair but it did take the nickel off at that spot. Have never used one of these and don't know much about them. The dimensions are approx: 37" tall by 20" wide by 18" deep. The name on the front is COLGAS UNIVERSAL No. 316. The ornamental top swings away to reveal a small lift off lid to put a pot on. Probably made a bout 1900- 1920. An older family friend asked me to help her list this wonderful. Large antique stove in her attic. When I saw it, I was immediately reminded of all those stories I read when I was little that talked about heaters and cookstoves(A Little Princess, Little House on the Prairie, etc. I couldn't believe I was actually seeing one in person! Apologies for the"lovely" attic background. But we are two smallish women and didn't want to attempt to move the heavy piece of iron from the 3rd floor! She has had it"forever, but she and her husband are preparing to sell their enormous house and are finding good homes for their larger antiques: Height: 48" Including finial. Circumference of central pipe: 51" Circumference of base: 60" Marked"Bright Oak" on the front in ornate letters, Lovely iron work all over ... morethe piece. Quite decorative, Made in 1907- see photos. Made of cast iron and brass with an ornate finial on top. Neither of us are experts on this- we expect that any buyer will know more than us. However. It doesn't take a genius to see broken parts or cracks! This piece has none- there doesn't appear to be any damage, aside from mild rust accumulated over 100 years. As you will see from the photos, the drawer slides out, the grate is intact, and there are no cracks or broken off parts. We wiped the dusty piece down with a wet rag before photographing because it was very dusty and dirty(some parts were still wet when we took the pictures. You can see that there is a light coating of orange rust on the iron. And the brass is dull. The stove will need to be cleaned up. However, it will be*beautiful* when it is refurbished- we found a photo of almost the exact same model on this site(for $4800! Please look at the photos for yourself- we took them from every angle with the flash so we could accurately represent the piece. It is approximately 16" across and 21.75" lengthwise. The legs rise up 7.5" and the edge of the stove is 9" above the floor. Despite being found laying in the woods. It is sturdy. My husband(180# can stand on it with no problem. I have not tried to clean it. It appears to be cast iron. There are some numbers/letters on the inside of the legs: BIOS, C80. This is an OUTSTANDING. Completely restored"17 Beauty Oak" parlor stove or base heater. Made by Auto Stove Works New Athens. Illinois, Circa 1890- 1910. Will burn wood or coal and will heat our entire house. Has been COMPLETELY restored- sand blasted. Repainted, resealed- just fantastically well done! Nickel plating has been completely redone& I bet looks like it did the day it was made! Brand new mica glass. Measures high 53 inches high and 24 inches wide. Fire box is 16 inches wide and 28 inches high. Flue is oval shaped and is 7& 1/4 inches by 4 inches. White areas on back of stove were my fingerprints from moving stove outside for pics and are NOT present on the stove- noticed AFTER it was moved back inside and wiped off with dry cloth. Exceptional rare authentic antique York Queen fireplace insert restored by an experienced stove man. Intricate and pristine casting on this stove. Four doors in the front with Mica windows allow you to see the fire's glow. The stove can be fed from the top set of front doors or from the top of the stove since the dome is removable. Ashes are taken out through the ashpan door at the bottom. Burns wood or coal in a 13" oval firepot with working like new grates. The shaker handle for the grates extends out from the stove above the askpan. The York Queen sits on the hearth and the 4" cast iron exhaust pipe extends into the fireplace and points upwards so it can be vented through the fireplace's flue. The overall measurements are 38" tall. Notice how filagreed bonnet and peacock finial rise upward past the fireplace opening. ... moreThe part of the stove that fits into the firebox of the fireplace is 25 1/2 inches high from the hearth to the top of the exhaust pipe. The exhaust pipe extends 13" horizontally into the fireplace past the face of the fireplace opening. The stove is 19 inches wide and 19 inches deep overall. At the top of the stove there is a filagreed dome for heat dissipation. Sitting on top of the dome is a nickel peacock with feathers open and a brass body. The stove has new brushed nickel trim. The stove rests on a raised lip with heart cutouts. This allows air to circulate under the stove. The nickel is redone in a brushed finish. This stove is very rare and is not a reproduction. A beautiful addition to any living room or family room.

Parlor Stove, 3 leg, Victorian artistry in Iron. 1864, Coal or Wood burning.
This 19th Century Victorian Art work was Manufactured in 1864 by the J.S. Lithgow Manufacturing Co. in Louisville. Kentucky. An inspection of the stove shows that it had very limited use. Note that the doors slide inside instead of swinging open. It appears to have been painted except for the two top pieces. This suggests to me that the chimney was attached at the top of the stove and the 2 piece top was not present and didn't get painted. I really don't know why they are not painted but they match perfectly and everything lines up. I don't think they were added later. A point of interest is that J.S. Lithgow was Mayor of Louisville from 1865 thru 1867. I have tried to show the art work and all the printing on the stove in the pictures. It is in perfect condition as far as I can tell. He had a Antique stove refurbishing business, and had a picture of this exact model stove on his website. I asked him how much the stove was worth. He said, Not sure, I've never seen one" I told him it was the same stove he had on his homepage. He laughed. Told me he got the picture from another website. I was intrigued. He went on to tell me the reason he used the picture of this particular model was because he thought it was the prettiest stove he'd ever seen. Thought it would look great on his homepage. While we were on the phone, he pulled some Cribben& Sexton Co. books off his shelf, and said, No wonder I've never ... moreseen one of these. They only made 1000 of this model" Now. The woman I bought this stove from owned a Southwest store in the San Diego area in the 40's to the 70's. She rubbed elbows with some pretty knowledgeable people. As a matter of fact. I bought 3 collections of arrowheads from her as well. My wife and I drove from Oregon to San Diego and met her at her house. We disassembled the stove and stowed it in the back of my truck. She and her husband had had the stove expertly refurbished in 1970. She indicated that it was re-nickeled at the same time. It hasn't been used as a stove since at least 1940. Other than how nice this woman was to me and my wife, the one thing I'll always remember about that day was her standing on the front porch crying as we bid her farewell. I own a Lodge in Oregon, and have a cool(temperature) spot in my lobby. I thought I'd outfit the stove with a propane burner, but decided against it. This is a rare antique solid cast iron wood or coal base burner parlor stove called"Art Garland" No 33. It was made by Michigan Stove Co. Detroit, Chicago, Buffalo, New York City. It is in beautiful restored condition and is ready to use. This stove has a solid cast iron body with doors on the sides as well as the front with all new high quality rainbow mica windows for a total of 110 for viewing the fire. There is a swing top with the original small knob on it for lifting and swinging it to the side(the small knob, very solid, has two small splits) the only very small flaw in this stove. There are no breaks, welds or repairs. It has a rear cook plate and has the original elbow for flue with a very decorative cap on it.
