Offered is a Turn Of The Century Cast Iron Kerosene Lamp And Sad Iron Heater. It stands approx. 9 ½” tall by 6 ¼” wide(left to right) And is approx. 4 ¼” front to back. It is in good vintage condition with no apparent cracks or splits in the cast iron or metal ware. There is substantial surface rust and other natural patina. Consistent with 100+ year old antique cast iron and metal ware. There is a mica window on front of the unit for light. And to check the flame. The mica shows signs of age and some scuffs. It does not appear to be broken. These dual purpose period pieces would provide light as well as heat a sad iron(old cast iron non-electric iron) When placed on top of the unit. This auction is for a cast iron kerosene sad iron heater. It has 2 burners. On the front it says. Union. On the top of the fuel tank it says, Gardner, Mass, USA& C.O. G. S. Co. In front middle of the burners it says 2-CR and on the left it says 20 and on the right it says UL. Then on top of the burner in the front. It says 19-Ul(I think) These types of stoves were available starting in the 1880s. One advantage was you didn’t have to heat your big stove and heat up the whole house. When you iron with a sad iron you use a hot one while another is heating up. The front of each unit has a mica window to see the flame. They slide sideways. There are wicks in the burners although they do not turn. I assume they need cleaning with penetrating oil because they haven’t been used in a long time. Puritan Sad Iron Single Burner Heater Here's an 1890's Puritan single burner sad iron(flat iron) heater with a very heavy base. These burners were used to heat the sad or flat iron to press the family laundry prior to the introduction of electricity. These irons had patent dates ranging between 1865 to 1901. There's a cork stopper where you'd put the kerosene in. The Puritan label on the base is in very good condition for the age of this piece. There are a few breaks in the mica front but it is present and intact. Top portion is quite rusty; the bottom portion. Painted black, is wearing quite well. This is a Game Jr. 2 burner personal kerosene stove. Made by the"Taylor and Boggis Company" Cleveland. OH. This is a vintage piece of railroad memoribilia. I am told these were used by the railroad workers back in the early days. However. I suppose it could have been used by anyone from miners to sheep herders. Its small size made it light and portable. But, its capabilities to make a pot of coffee or heating a can of soup would have been appreciated by anyone back in those days. The fuel tank is made of cast iron. As well as the lower and upper grill. It appears to be in working order. Though we have NOT tried it. It could stand a good cleaning. The wicks and brass wick valves should be cleaned and lubricated. The entire piece appears to be held together by one approx. 4" bolt. Which would make it easy for disassembly, cleaning ... moreand restoring. The mica windows on the front of the burners are in bad shape. But, mica sheets are available on Ebay. Appears to be a fairly easy restoration for someone who is into this sort of thing. DESCRIPTION: This auction is for an Antique Summer Girl Cast Iron Kerosene/Oil Burning Sad Iron Heater. It has also been described elsewhere as a railroad camp cook stove. In reality. These heaters were used to keep the sad irons hot enough to press the family's clothing. The wide wick generated heat to the entire bottom of the iron, thus heating it quickly. The total unit is 9" tall; the base reservoir is by 6" wide by 4" deep. The oil reservoir is entirely cast iron which was painted black. There is a brass knob on the side of the base for adjusting the height of the wick. It works smoothly and easily. The wick is still there. The chimney is metal with a cast iron burner on top. It is attached to the reservoir base by hinges on the front side; and it can be removed completely. The reservoir base is marked in raised letters ... morein the casting: No 1 SUMMER GIRL on the top of the hinged side of the reservoir; on the other side's top: PATD. DEC. 26, 1893. Here we have an Antique Dual Burner Sad Iron Heater/Kerosene Stove. I believe this item is from the late 1800's. This stove is in very good condition. It appears to be complete and in tact. Except for one of the burner screens is missing. There is no damage to the cast iron bottom/tank or to the metal stove itself. The 2 burner dials move the wicks up and down but the right dial is sticky/hard to turn. The right view window covering is flimsy. The fill cap for the tank will need a new cork insert in order to seal properly. I Have NOT Tested This Item. Now that I've beat up the description of my stove. Let me clarify. Glass tank has Jan 2 1877 embossed on it(I can't believe glass made it this long) Adjusting knob on the side has a date of Mar.29.1881.If it wasn't for the glass tank, this would be just another sad,flat iron heater. When you look at the tank, you just know it's old glass! No identifying mark's.Still has cellulose window halve stuck on. Measurements are 9 1/8 high, 6 3/4 wide at the base, 4 7/8 deep, not including handle. 4 inch wide wick included. GOOD LUCK!

Antique Barler's Ideal Oil Heater no. 2 Kerosene Room Heater Stove-Cast Iron
I bought this at a local estate sale. I don't know anything about them but it looks to me like that the only thing missing is the wire handle. Everything else seems to be there. The float for the fuel indicator slides as it should. I don't see any holes or really many dents in the tank. The wick does not roll up and down. One would imagine it wouldn't after years of sitting around and the wick will most likely need replacing anyway. The top hinge works perfect for letting the top tilt back. Great condition for someone to bring back to it's original condition. Not much else I can tell you about the heater. I took as many pics allowed for you to judge it's condition. This is for an used Antique Vintage kerosene oil lamp flat cast iron heater stove- 2 burner There are no marking on the stove to indicate the maker. I have been emailed: What you have there is called a Sad Iron(Flat iron) heater. It had one real purpose in life and that was to heat the clothes irons used for pressing the family laundry. They were made with 1.2, and 3 burners. Your heater will heat 2 irons at a time. When electricity was introduced into homes, the electric iron replaced need for the heaters. There seems to be a never ending supply of these heaters on ebay, because just about every housewife had one. Patent dates seem to range from about 1865 to 1901. The large wicks were meant to concentrate a large amount of heat in a small area to heat the irons quickly. You may want to add the words Sad Iron or Flat iron to your listing, ... moreso that the sad iron collectors will find the heater in a search. The heaters are even listed in some of the Flat Iron collector books. Stove was stored in shed so it got damp and temp changing. I will try to describe the stove best I can. Surface rust. Grim, dirt, pitting to the metal and corrosion in the tank. I took pictures of the two cracks to the stove grate and break and missing cast iron on the burner. Two windows are all there with a few lines bubbles from the layers to make the window. Knobs turn the wick up and down. Look at the pictures closely to see the condition of the stove.
