We have for your consideration this very nice Estate Find: Antique Humphrey No. 31 Radiantfire gas Fireplace insert Heater) This is an early 1900's Humphrey Radiant Fire Gas Heater that has been designed with Ten Burners. Very well taken care of. Its was used regularly by the previous owner. The working parts such as the manifold. Burners, ceramic back, and fittings all appear to be in very good condition. The stove is very ornate and that includes the gas valve knob with its fancy iron/brass design! Of course. The valve moves smoothly and closes positively. Of course. It's not perfect- it's 90 or so years old! It does have some light handling damage like chips, dents and surface rust, especially in the back where it got hot and baked the paint off. All of the metal is still very strong ... moreas designed. The ceramic is totally intact and undamaged. The Ten Burners are also in great usable condition and show no major abuse. The iron manifold and valve looks in very good condition. I f you plan on using it as a heater. I would strongly recommend that you have a professional look it over to be on the safe side. My research indicates that columns of ceramic"radiants" are supposed to be above those jets. They are missing. I don't see anything else obviously missing. But please take a look at the pictures to judge this for yourself. I also think a simple wire guard should be located in front of those radiants, and that is also missing. Check out the link above to look into finding those parts. The metal parts have general surface oxidation wherever the finish has worn thin over the years. It also has some dust and spots of what looks like paint overspray. Note that my research also indicates people use these this type of heater without radiants and guards. I don't know if it works as well because I imagine the radiants will absorbe and radiate the heat to some degree. You could also use this insert as a cool Victorian decorative element. For your bidding consideration is an antique/vintage HUMPHREY RADIANTFIRE Heater#31! This home heater/stove is from the 20's and has a decorative art deco look. Heavy metal/cast iron? I saw an ad from the early 20's for these stoves and the only way these could be obtained was from the General Gas Co. The ad stated this adds a warm. Friendly, personality to any home. Has a mellow glow and irresistable invitation to settle down in that comfy arm chair and light up the briar pipe. Experience the deep contentment of true fireplace magic. Burns natural or manufactured gas without a suggestion of odor. The heat is projected by radiant rays straight out into the room and not up the chimney. I moved into a house built in 1903 and this was in the formal dining room fireplace and was what they used to heat the room back in the day. The stove ... moreis in overall great condition of it's age and has been sitting in my fireplace for 10+ years and was well taken care of. The front is beautiful without dents and ornate decorative brass tops to either side and down the sides and the base. These would probably shine up nice with a good metal cleaner. The front grid lifts up to get to the burners and has the original ceramic back and you can see the holes where the gas comes out. This also has the stand up ceramic/clay type burners. Only one of them appears to be broken. The paint is in great condition to the front but the back has some superficial surface rust noted and the stove could use a good overall cleaning to bring back to it's original luster. There is also a sticker on the side that says Testing laboratory approved and the Humphrey Radiantfire brass tag on the front bottom. There is sturdy free standing legs to the base and, but does not have the original pipe coming from the stove that is attached to the turn knob to adjust the flame. Sharp looking. Victorian style fireplace insert. These were used in place of the fireplaces starting around 1920 and worked very well at radiating heat out into the room even when turned off because the heat held in the ceramic brick. Humphrey RadiantFire #20 Space Heater Antique
This is for a very old Humphrey RadiantFire space room heater. While I do not know if it works. The original cement block is still intact and the knob on the front turns smoothly. It is black and slightly rustly on some parts, but overall not in bad condition. The back right leg is bent inwards. So it sits on a slight slope, but with tools could easily be bent back out. I believe it was made somewhere between the 20's and 30's, because that is when the Humphrey company did most of it's business before Edison's concept of oil-generated heat became more popular in the 50's.
