ANTIQUE DOE-WAH-JACK AMERICAN INDIAN FIGURAL METAL FINIAL ROUND OAK WOOD STOVE
Original and hard to find Chief Doe-Wah-Jack metal figurine that used to stand on top of a Round Oak wood stove. Manufactured in Dowagiac, Michigan in the early 1900's. This Indian Chief statue is hollow-cast in a bronze finished metal with excellent detail. He has two feathers on his head; I believe there used to be a third one, but it's missing. The statue stands 11.25" tall on a 2.5" diameter round base embossed"DOE-WAH-JACK" There are two holes on each side of the base, two on either side of his head, and one in his fist that were used to hold a metal garland of leaves that surrounded the figurine, but it is also long gone. The Indian is in very good condition with no noticeable cracks or damage other than the missing third feather. Round Oak remedied that problem by providing the phonetic spelling of the town's name. Round Oak was considered the finest heating stove that money could buy because of its quality, durable goods used to make their products. It measures 11" tall and 6 1/2" wide at the widest point. The Indian holds above his head a reef that says round oak-his name appears at the bottom base Doe Wah Jack. ANTIQUE ADVERTISING ROUND OAK STOVE DAMPER CONTROL DOE-WAH-JACK INDIAN
The indian face on this furnace draft damper control has been dented. The brass lever opens and closes properly. I am unsure if the paint is original or not. The surface does show some wear. The back plate is made of cast iron and the front appears to be made of cast aluminum. Control measures 4 3/4" in width. I did not detect any cracks or chips.

Antique Finial for Round Oak Stoves, Doe-Wah-Jack
This auction is for an antique stove finial of an Indian from a Round Oak Stove. The fictional Indian was named Doe-Wah-Jack. After the town where the stove company was located, Dowagiac, Mich. The 3-feathered Indian figure stands approximately 11 inches tall, and 6 3/4 inches wide. Doe-Wah-Jack wears a blanket over one forearm, and holds a pipe in the other hand. He wears a necklace. The Round Oak Stove Company was founded by Philo D. Beckwith in 1871. The Michigan Central Railroad used his stoves in their depots. The company employed about 1200 people from the area. This is a great antique from a once prominent stove maker. It is a handsome finial that could be returned to a Round Oak Stove, or made into a statue.
