Women(and male tailors) used sad irons to press their families' or customer's' clothes. Sad irons got their name because sad means"heavy" They are very appropriately named. Although these irons were small, they were quite heavy. Sad irons were heated near an open fire or on the stove and their handles became red hot. Women tried wrapping aprons or towels around the handles, but still burned their fingers. The thought of ironing under these conditions is enough to make anyone"sad" This iron is a#6 iron. The face plate was left intact and shows natural patina. However. The top of the iron was repainted and used as a doorstop, ... morethen later a paperweight. It looks like the paint can be removed if the winning bidder wished to attempt to restore it to its natural condition. However, painted it does not look bad, in our opinion. It would make a lovely addition to your antique and vintage primitive collection. This is a antique/ vintage cast iron pot belly stove made be S.S. R Co. in Rome. Georgia. It is called a Raven, NO. 66. It is 28" tall. It is 12" across. There is a 6 1/2" plate that lifts off. The front door measures 4" x 5 1/2" It has a draft control in it which operates freely. The lower door measures 9" x 3 1/2" and has an air adjustment screw turn that operates freely. The base is 14" square and the legs hold the stove 7 3/4" off the floor. There is also a grate inside the stove. It weights about 60lbs. I purchased this stove with the intention of hooking it up in one of our bedrooms. But found that it was not allowed under our local code so now it needs a new home. Up for bid is this nice antique gas heater. The only identifying mark on this unit is on the manufacturers tag. The Superior Manufacturing Company Carnegie Penn. Model#7710. The unit measures 23" wide x 20" tall x 9" deep.This unit has been stored in a warehouse and worked when it was put away.The metal does show some surface rust and some dust from storage. All of the ceramic radiants are in tact with no breaks. Radiants will be shipped seperately as they are very fragile* The stone surround is also in tact with no chips or cracks. Beautifully restored circa 1923 Bridge Beach. Superior Eureka gas, coal and wood stove. I replated all of the nickel and the original blue and white finish is in beautiful condition, with a few blemishes. I only cooked on the wood side once, but I've used the gas side for the last few years and it works great. The thermostat in gas oven is actually quite accurate. The wood and coal part consists of four burners and the lower oven. Then there are the frour natural gas cooking burners and the one simmer burner on the right side. Up above on the left is the gas oven which is controlled by a very accurate thermostat. On ther right is the gas broiler. It is the most furocious broiler I've ever seen. Take a look at the picture. An antique parlor heat stove by PENINSULAR STOVE CO of Detroit. Chicago and Buffalo, model 211. This stove is in need of restoration or for parts. This is a pretty stove with both Victorian and Art Nouveau design elements. As it stands it is 40" tall to the top of the brass finial and measures 16 1/2" across and 14" 1/4 deep at the bottom. Across the front of the bottom it is cast WORLD'S LEADER, and a large initial"K" is cast underneath the opening for the flue. The stove is missing the base. It would have been 14 1/4 X 16 1/2. The mica or isinglass panes in the door and on both sides of the stove show some damage and loss. There is a little loss to the iron at the top of the left and right sides where the cap sits on it. The domed cap is cracked, the round plate on top is cracked in two. we have one of the foot ... morewarmer rest, missing the other. There are 2 pieces of a teracotta type material in the bottom and another is like stovepipe the bottom has some breaking through places.The brass finial sits a little cocked.and most likely is missing its scroles.
