Women(and male tailors) used sad irons to press their families' or customer's' clothes. Sad irons got their name because sad means"heavy" They are very appropriately named. Although these irons were small, they were quite heavy. Sad irons were heated near an open fire or on the stove and their handles became red hot. Women tried wrapping aprons or towels around the handles, but still burned their fingers. The thought of ironing under these conditions is enough to make anyone"sad" This iron is a#6 iron. The face plate was left intact and shows natural patina. However. The top of the iron was repainted and used as a doorstop, ... morethen later a paperweight. This is a working beautiful appliance. The Country Kitchen range stove/oven, put out by Sears, Roebuck and Co. in the 1980's as a retro model. It was originally purchased by my Grandparents new and has been in the family ever since. It does work. It plugs into a 220 electric outlet and can be used for your cooking needs. I have the original owner's manual. The bottom legs are cast iron with lovely detail. This would be perfect for an old farm house or any older home. This stove has tons of character and is a great conversation piece. It measures 25' deep by 38' wide by 35 1/2" tall not measuring the back splash piece. Gas stove has one spot that has a small blemish which has been filled in. Other than that it has normal wear. I have never used this stove but it seems to be complete and functional, although I would have it checked out by a technican before use. I believe it is from the 1930s as I was told from previous owner. I decided not to use this stove due to my health condition of cancer and don't have the time to get it installed in our home. I haven't seen a stove like this one listed anywhere so it seems to be rare although I have seen literature listed and parts lists, so I know there is a market for this stove. I saw an ad from the early 20's for these stoves and the only way these could be obtained was from the General Gas Co. The ad stated this adds a warm. Friendly, personality to any home. Has a mellow glow and irresistable invitation to settle down in that comfy arm chair and light up the briar pipe. Experience the deep contentment of true fireplace magic. Burns natural or manufactured gas without a suggestion of odor. The heat is projected by radiant rays straight out into the room and not up the chimney. I moved into a house built in 1903 and this was in the formal dining room fireplace and was what they used to heat the room back in the day. The stove ... moreis in overall great condition of it's age and has been sitting in my fireplace for 10+ years and was well taken care of. The front is beautiful without dents and ornate decorative brass tops to either side and down the sides and the base. These would probably shine up nice with a good metal cleaner. The front grid lifts up to get to the burners and has the original ceramic back and you can see the holes where the gas comes out. This also has the stand up ceramic/clay type burners. Only one of them appears to be broken. The paint is in great condition to the front but the back has some superficial surface rust noted and the stove could use a good overall cleaning to bring back to it's original luster. There is also a sticker on the side that says Testing laboratory approved and the Humphrey Radiantfire brass tag on the front bottom. There is sturdy free standing legs to the base and, but does not have the original pipe coming from the stove that is attached to the turn knob to adjust the flame. Original Antique Black Caboose Stove
This is the real deal it is about 300 lbs. It is in 95% cond. This stove is a very rare gem and you may not see another for many years to come if ever.Look closely at the front of this loading door. You will notice that it has a double latch system, or a safety. This is because caboose stoves were largely left unattended, and if you've ever been on an old train, with the side to side motion and bumping around, it would be too easy to have a simple door catch spring open and spill forth hot coals on the floor of the train. The rocking motion of the train brings up my next point, these stoves did not have legs, but were built to be directly bolted to the floor. A stove with 12" legs sitting on the floor of a moving railroad car would simply fall over before it got out of the rail yard or depot. And finally, in almost all cases, the ... morestoves had a Lipped Top, a solid ring of cast iron above the top cook surface, usually 1" or more, to keep the coffee pot or pan of chili from sliding off while under way. Also, in almost all cases, they where coal stoves, as that is what the train's locomotive was burning. Coal must have draft from the bottom of the fire, thus it has to have draft controls below the firebox. There are many different manufacturers of caboose and rail stoves, one of the more famous being Smoke Consumer, with an embossed wheel and wings to each side. Often you will see the embossed description. Please note that literally thousands of these Original stoves where cannibalized for their cast iron content during our country's War Efforts, and a True Caboose Stove should and does command a rather substantial price, in working condition. Use common sense when purchasing these wonderful examples of yesteryears' railroad heating, and beware of the catchy sales pitch. There are indeed Authentic Examples of Pot Belly Style stoves used in this application, But NONE had spindly legs that were not bolted directly to the floor. True examples are rare and hard to find. This unique crown stove was designed in the mid 1850's as a fancy apartment stove but we have used it to heat up a whole upper floor of an old farm house! It is a very rare find in the U.S. It is made up of 5 sections joined by connecting rings. The burning chamber is lined with fire-brick and the door to the chamber has beautiful mica windows that allow the warm glow of the flames to show. There is an adjustable air intake valve to control the burn. It stands 67 inches tall and graduates in size. It is topped by an iron lacework crown. Has beautiful engravings and gargoyles on the feet. It is a very fine example of the metal casting of its time. Not only is this a point of interest in any room, but it gives off wonderful heat. We supplied this stove with free wood for years and we can tell you our secret if interested. We bought this ... morestove in 1980 for 4000.00 and we are now offering for 3500. Which is a super bargain due to the appreciated value of this antique but we have moved and there sadly is no place for the stove so we must let it go.

Nice Antique Malleable Wood Cook Stove. Made by South Bend. It's a Model 820. This stove is in good used condition. It has some surface rust inside but that's from being used. It appears to have been resprayed in the past then used. Nickle is not show room new but it is in pretty decent shape overall. It's the real deal not spray painted silver. Only pieces I know that are missing is one of the tea pot holders and support for it(evident on left side of picture) and the thermometer is missing the glass so likely needs new thermometer. Their is one spot of rust through on the center of the lower lip of the back splash, easily fixed but I think it is hidden from view when pipe is installed. This stove is very heavy. Antique black Malleable wood/coal cook stove, South Bend Model 820
Nice Antique Cast Iron Malleable Wood/ Coal Cook Stove. Made by South Bend. It's a Model 820. This stove is in good used condition. It has some surface rust inside but that's from being used. It appears to have been resprayed in the past then used. Nickle is not show room new but it is in pretty decent shape overall, not spray painted silver. Only pieces I know that are missing is one of the tea pot holders and support for it(evident on left side of picture) and the thermometer is missing the glass so likely needs new thermometer. Their is one spot of rust through on the center of the lower lip of the back splash, easily fixed but I think it is hidden from view when pipe is installed. This stove is very heavy. It's a bit over 500lbs for sure. The flue is oval shaped it is 8.5" wide and 4.5" deep. The oven box is 21" ... moredeep. 19.5" wide and 13" high. The stove top is 38.5" wide and 29" deep. This stove does not have the optional water tank. I'm happy to get it to a shipper if you make necessary arrangements and pay the packing/shipping. If you're within a couple hundred miles of my location(Ft. Collins CO 80525) we could negotiate delivery for fuel fee. If you have question about shipping please shoot me a message prior to bidding.
