LNER Railway Silver Plated Bowl by Walker and Hall
This superb silver plated bowl was originally used for catering by the world famous LNER(London and North Eastern Railway) Company. It clearly has the LNER logo in script to the front. On the base is the mark for Walker and Hall of Sheffield along with the words"Warranted Hard and Silver Soldered" The bowl measures 4 1/2" across and stands 2 1/2" high. The bowl stands on a foot and is in fair condition for its age with spots of plate worn on the inside. The bowl is slightly misshapen through use. ATTIC CLEAROUT; I'm having an absolute clearout of my attic and finally selling my family's collectables; You are bidding for my Aunts STUNNING and RARE totally original ART DECO SILVER PLATED Lidder. Footed, with inner drip tray,SERVING/ ENTREE DISH by the PREMIER LEAGUE SILVERSMITHS WALKER& HALL. I'M EXCITED ABOUT THIS FIND IN THE ATTIC. I NEED TO GET OUT MORE! I'M EXCITED BECAUSE.I have honestly and genuinely never ever seen a piece of silver plate in such good condition. I have seen hundreds of pieces of silver over the years, my own, my familys, in shops but this looks like it came straight out of the Factory showroom when it was made in 1935! The serving/ entrée dish measures approx. 20 cm wide by 27.5 cm(excluding handles) in length by 13-14 cm tall to the top of the handle. It consists of a double handled ... moremain dish on turned feet with a lidded handle and an internal removable gullied drip tray. The dish is fully marked Walker& Hall A1 for best plate and has the date letter F in a square with the right hand edge of the square as a pointing arrow to the right. This precisely dates the piece to 1935. This style of date letter was introduced in 1930 with A. THIS PIECE REALLY IS STUNNING AND SO RARE. Totally immaculate. From MINT condition with an infantesimally small missable unnoticeable scuff on the edge corner and a few of my greasy fingerprints, I only mention this for the purists but genuinely in absolutely staggering condition. Never been used and hidden away for 79 years. Given the condition of this item you would be hard pushed to find another of this age like it and if you did it would command a heavy premium of at least £150. A wonderful example of an antique Swivel or Revolving Domed Silver Plated Breakfast Serving Dish. Complete with the fitted internal pierced drainer and bowl which would have been placed over hot water in the base to keep food warm. Made by the famous Sheffield silversmiths'Walker and Hall' and dating between 1885-1920. The piece features decorative handles and two'screws' which were used to adjust the tension of the swivel lid to prevent it from crashing back on opening. It stands on four shapely reeded legs with claw feet. The removable drip tray has a nice pierced decorative design. The base is marked with'Walker and Hall and the W&H Flag with a shield below with the letter'T' plus the numbers 51895 below. Approx Size: 36 cm wide x 23 cm deep x 24 cm high. There are also scratch and scuff marks. Commensurate with age. Please study all the photos in detail to ascertain the overall condition of both the base and the lid.
