This covered dish is very nice and from 1866 to 1899 by Simpson Hall Miller& Co. USA.The dome lid is in Excellent Condition and has six vent holes for steam in the top of it.The weight is 1 pound. The bottom is very decorated around the outside edge with cut outs 25 old English Pattern! It is 8 1/4" round on the outside and 5 1/2 round inside bottom and graduates to 6" at the inside top! Could be used for cheese. Butter or any hot dish because it has vent holes for steam. There are some small pin prick marks to the silver on inside bottom, but very small and doesn't take away from the beauty of the piece.It also has a small bend to the outside edge that isn't that noticeable unless you look really hard.Very Nice Antique set that is Rare and I haven't been able to compare it with any other dish from that time.Great ... moreFind! It is marked on the underside EPNS 2450, as well as the English hall marks, however I was unable to identify the maker. It is a similar dish that I found on line made by Smith, Sissons and Co. a Sheffield, England silversmith, which sells for $175. The top finial is a grape. Leaf and vine motif, and is removable. Antique Silver Plated Mappin & Webb L 381 B Covered Dish with Sphinx Handle
This lovely piece is a genuine Mappin& Webb Silver plated covered dish. I believe it is a butter cooler. But others have said it could be an incense burner, a vinaigrette, a vanity box, a powder box, or a"toilet" box. It has three pieces. The bottom part is about 7 1/2" long by 5 3/8" wide by 2 3/8" high with a floral design covering it. On the underside of the bottom piece is engraved a symbol which looks like a banner and on the banner is a M a hand and a W, further down it says Mappin& Webb 77& 78 Oxford St. 71& 72 Cornhill, London, L 381 B, and the number 4. Then there is some letters/numbers that are etched and they are: t/S/7 and a 4. The second piece is a tray that fits snugly into the bottom piece. It measures about 6" long 4" wide 1/2" high. On the top of the tray is a floral ... morelattice design(it has holes in it allowing whatever is put in the bottom to permeate or waft up to the top) On the underside of the tray it has the same symbol as the one on the bottom piece, an engraved number 4, an etched number 4, and an engraved goblet symbol. The third piece is the lid that also has the same floral design as the bottom piece. It is 6 1/2" long by 4 1/2" wide and 2 1/2" high. The handle on the lid is an Egyptian Sphinx held on by a wing nut. On the underside of the lid there is an engraved number 4 and etched numbers/letters that say L 381 and t/S/7. Other than a few very small scratches from normal wear, this piece is in excellent condition for its age.

ERQUIS, WWII , Nautical Silver Plated Covered Serving Dish 1900-1940
Up for auction is this fabulous WW II era nautical themed silver covered serving dish. This beautiful piece was made in France by Erquis probably in the mid to late thirties. The note that came with it when I purchased it 30 years ago says that it came from the German submarine pen at Brest. France in the fall of 1944, when the American Army was on it's march against Hitlers troops. This piece was more than likely made for the French Navy and confiscated by the Germans when they took Brest. This large dish measures 11 1/4 inches across the bowl and 15 1/4 inches across the handles. The bowl stands 4 3/4 inches and 7 inches to the tip of the handle on the cover. It has a wonderful nautical design with rope trim around the lip and anchors in a leaf motif on the handles. There is also an engraved anchor on the cover. Antique Kemp Bros. Bristol Silver Plated Covered/Domed Entree Server ITEM DESCRIPTION This auction is for an antique Kemp Bros. Bristol silver plated covered/domed entree server. It is 13" long from handle to handle and 8 1/2" tall when the dome is closed. CONDITION-The entree server is in very good condition with normal polish marks. But the lid does not come down quite all the way and will pop open if you nudge it. Also there is one small ding on it's dome. It is missing its insert. These are all minor issues but worth noting.
