Here we have a lovely silver plated& glass dish which I presume would be a butter dish. But I have also seen these called Caviar servers. It has the original starburst glass dish that fits perfectly on the inside. It's a lovely sweet item with a nice quality. They measure approximately 4.75 inches by 5 inches. ANTIQUE c1910 ART NOUVEAU CHRISTOFLE SILVER PLATED GALLIA BUTTER JAM CAVIAR DISH
Description This antique circa 1910 Art Nouveau Gallia metal silver plated butter. Jam, preserve, pickle, caviar dish by Christofle of Paris France, is finely worked with panels of stylised foliage to the dish and domed lift off lid. There is open work design around the sides of the glass dish holder and it has an acanthus leaf and berry finial handle to the top. The glass dish inset has frosted sides and a star pattern to the bottom. This gorgeous rare piece is marked to the base with the Alfenide mark of a goats head in a lozenge and with the Christofle mark of a rooster with'ORFEVRERIE GALLIA' beneath, we believe these marks date from 1908-21. CONDITION It is in good condition with no chips. The repousse decoration is very unusual and appears to be made up of rows of worshippers or an army carrying heavy staves(please see images) The three feet sport masks to the mounts. The country of origin is not known by us… any ideas anyone? It is very lightweight but structurally sound. There is some rubbing to the inner dish but nothing excessive. There might have been a glass liner dish at the first. Displays with interest. ANTIQUE EARLY 1900s SILVER PLATED COCKLESHELL BUTTER/CAVIAR DISH A pretty silver plated satin lined butter or caviar server of hinged cockleshell form. The liner is detachable. The piece is finished with an orbical knop to the upper. There is wear to the silver cover in the form of a little rubbing/thinning here and there and some scattered spots/small freckles which have occurred by food being trapped between the liner and the bottom dish. There are a couple of tiny unobtrusive chips to the edge of the liner. Displays well despite these commensurate signs of service. This is an EPNS(electroplated nickel silver) butter/caviar dish in a shape of an oyster. With frosted inlay glass, raised on bun feet. Beautiful Ornate Silver Plate Engraved Roll Top DOMED CAVIAR / BUTTER DISH
This is a really beautiful silver plated caviar dish that features an engraved roll dome and sits on four paw feet. It contains a lovely glass dish. Below which the base can be filled with ice Amazingly for a piece of this quality I can find no makers mark. It is 20cm in diameter and 9cm high. There are no dents. Dings, scratches, or rub that I can find but a tiny chip to the glass dish(see photo) This is a lovely bowl in excellent overall condition that would look great on display or in use for either caviar. Or butter. THE SMALL PRINT Many of the items I sell are of some age and have been used.
