vintage silver plated(epns) lidded tray/entree dish? by martin hall& co Please be advised that this is a used and vintage item. It does display signs of use, wear and ageing. Please study photos carefully. Unsure of actual age. Research will advise between 1866 + 1936 for this maker. The plating process they developed is also known as Martinoid we believe. Measures approx 17cms x 24.5cms not including the handles. The lip of the tray stands approx 2.5cms above the surface it sits on. We are unsure what it's primary use was designed for. The item is pretty straight and seems dent free. The draw back for the item is the amount of use/cleaning and age. The plate has clearly suffered and has worn through in many places and has various tarnish marks etc. See photos. We feel however the item is just way too good to scrap. FINE ENGLISH SILVER PLATED EPNS COVERED ENTREE/VEG DISH TOP CONVERTS TO DISH
I am offering this Elegant English silver-plated covered. Double, entrée/vegetable dish with superb craftmanship Rococo-style decor. It is marked on the underside EPNS 2450, as well as the English hall marks, however I was unable to identify the maker. It is a similar dish that I found on line made by Smith, Sissons and Co. a Sheffield, England silversmith, which sells for $175. The top finial is a grape. Leaf and vine motif, and is removable. When taken off, the cover can be turned upside down and the inside cover will now double as another serving dish. see photo) It is just a bit smaller. It is a very unique feature, that is certainly very rare. It measures 1 1/2" tall x 9 3/4" L x 7 1/3" width. The top lid portion is 1 1/2" tall x 9"L x 6 1/2" wide. This piece shines up nicely and is highly decorated ... morefrom top to bottom to inside.
