Original Art Deco silver plated/glass butter(?) or preserve dish
A silver plated Art Deco stand with a fitted glass dish which I take to be for containing butter or perhaps preserves.The dish has a slim arched handle broader and fluted at its upper end with crest of loosely shell form at the very top centre.This handle being bolted to a base of rounded rectangle form similarly fluted and standing on four stumpy feet of geometric form.The pressed glass dish slots neatly into the central aperture with its walls with fan and diamond patterns rising well above the plane of the base.I can find no maker's mark but feel that this is a piece of Continental Art Deco-perhaps German? The glass has a registration mark dating the piece exactly to 1st March 1878. This is an EPNS(electroplated nickel silver) butter/caviar dish in a shape of an oyster. With frosted inlay glass, raised on bun feet. Condition Some pitting and faint loss of silvering- please see all photos Measurements Weight- 135 g 17 cm long 9 cm wide(at widest point) 3 cm tall I'm selling a lot of silver and silver plated items at the moment. Very usable Butter Dish. This is in nice condition. There are no major dings or dents- some spotting marks on the top and only very light surface scratches. There is no plate loss- there are approx. 6 tiny nips to the edges glass insert but due to the decorative nature and the snug fit of the glass insert these are not noticeable.
