The Coasters are of quite a large size. Easily holding a full size bottle of Champagne or a Large Decanter as seen in our photos. The Coasters shows wear throughout to the Brass base metal, but it actually looks like the Coasters are Gold Gilt and lends a very rich look to them in my opinion. The Bottoms of the Coasters are carved wood, Mahogany I believe and they show nice age shrinkage as you want to see but are also still solid with only the most minor looseness(they do not fall out) The Coasters are unmarked, but a lot of early Victorian Silver never was marked and judging by the quality they were made by a fine period Silver company. The Cast fancy designs around the top are applied in sections, the lines you see in the photos are original and not cracks, there is no cracks throughout. Cake stands are very fashionable these days and although this is a smaller version it is very much in the same idea. The plate is small. With a diameter of 19cm/7.5 inches and a height of 11cm/4.25 inches with the handle. This would be ideal for small fancies or delicate biscuits. The handle separates away from the plate. Antique Silver Plate Large WINE Bottle COASTER HOLDER Pierced Lion Head Garland
This Auction is for a large Antique Silver Plate Wine Bottle Coaster circa 1880. The holder measures approximately 4 1/2 inches in height and measures approximately 7 inches across the top and 5 1/4 inches across the bass. The coaster has heavy repousse floral decorations circling the top edge, with pierced or open work and garlands attached to Lion Heads decorating the side. The Coaster has great patina with some wear through to the silverplate- mostly noticeable to the high points i.e. garlands and lions heads decorating the body of the wine holder. The turned wooden base has a silver disc in the center and the green felt has been replaced. There is signs that the rim of the holder has been bent at some earlier time(most likely from a fall) and bent back in place- only visible when looking at the coaster from the bottom up- please see photos. ... moreThe antique piece has a sturdy weight of 719 grams. Offered is a vintage. Forbes Silver Co. silver plate? expandable trivet or hot plate coaster. It opens and closes smoothly. It is a vintage item that has been in our family for decades and I expect that it may date from the late 1890's or early 1900's. The entire piece has a silver finish. But no markings of metal quality. The two halves of the oval shaped trivet slide apart to make a longer surface if needed. The trivet has a design that pierces the metal. So you can see thru it. There are 6 legs on the bottom side, each with a cork foot that will keep heat from being transferred to your table. Underside of the trivet is marked with a four character hallmark that I have discovered to be for the Forbes Silver Co. Of Meriden, CT. They were in business from 1894 to 1935 according to online information. There is also a number 6 stamped ... moreto the right of the hallmarks. Included are the trivet you see in the pictures and a brown cloth tarnish resisting storage bag. Dimensions are: about 9 1/4 inches long. 2 Victorian silver plate on copper wine bottle coasters- pierced decoration Delightful pair of silver plate on copper wine bottle coasters believed to date to the Victorian period or Edwardian at latest. This is a very good looking pair with pierced foliar decoration(just like miniature Christmas trees! all the way around and topped with a wavy rope-twist rim. The coasters each have a turned wooden base with a green felt or baize pad underneath to protect furnishings. This is a perfect item for the table. Particularly when entertaining. The coasters are large enough to hold most wine and champagne bottles with an internal diameter of 13cm/5 inches and an external maximum diameter of 14cm/5.5 inches.
