Description. Antique English silver plated domed revolving roll top butter/caviar dish. Circular shaped body with beaded rim& raised on four foliage decorated feet. Hinged dome shaped roll top lid with hand engraved foliage decoration& shaped handle. Balanced perfectly to remain closed. Lightly lift the handle& the lid revolves underneath to reveal the original glass dish inside with cut fanned decoration on the underside. Weight. 474 grams Dimensions. Here we have a lovely silver plated& glass dish which I presume would be a butter dish. But I have also seen these called Caviar servers. It has the original starburst glass dish that fits perfectly on the inside. It's a lovely sweet item with a nice quality. They measure approximately 4.75 inches by 5 inches. The repousse decoration is very unusual and appears to be made up of rows of worshippers or an army carrying heavy staves(please see images) The three feet sport masks to the mounts. The country of origin is not known by us… any ideas anyone? It is very lightweight but structurally sound. There is some rubbing to the inner dish but nothing excessive. There might have been a glass liner dish at the first. Displays with interest.
