Antique Silver Plated Magnum Size Wine Coasters Description A pair of mid to late 19th century antique wine coasters dating around 1870 making them Victorian in period. They are of large size for their type with an internal diameter of about 14cm which would suit most magnum sized decanters or champagne bottles. The coasters are of pressed metal and silver plated pierced style sides in classical form. There are no makers marks which is quite typical for this period. The bases are of typical turned hardwood form and there are silver plated roundels to the centres. To the underside they appear to sport the original green baize fabric. This is a fantastic piece dating probably before 1900. The silverplate is on copper and it has a wood base that is likely mahogany. There is also a silverplate button in the center. The design is a beautiful leaf and shell rococco design. This is a larger size coaster. Fitting a magnum size bottle. Dimensions: 5" interior diameter 7" outside diameter 1-5/8" high Condition: I've lightly polished the piece and put cutting board oil on the wood. It could benefit from more polishing to make it really shine. But I wanted to be conservative rather than too aggressive. On the bottom there is a seam where the silverplate is a bit worn, and this is how I can tell it is on copper. This coaster is large or magnum size at 13cm across and has a heavily detailed embossed grape and vine pattern around the outside. It is made in silver soldered electro-plate meaning that it is silver plated. Obviously. Over the past 100 or so years this piece has seen some use and so is far from pristine! Truth be told. The silver plate is worn and blistered places, a wooden insert is missing and the body itself is a little misshapen. However. Given the name and quality of this piece we feel it is very worthwhile restoring both for its rarity and increased value on completion. Any questions? Please ask!
