The Coasters are of quite a large size. Easily holding a full size bottle of Champagne or a Large Decanter as seen in our photos. The Coasters shows wear throughout to the Brass base metal, but it actually looks like the Coasters are Gold Gilt and lends a very rich look to them in my opinion. The Bottoms of the Coasters are carved wood, Mahogany I believe and they show nice age shrinkage as you want to see but are also still solid with only the most minor looseness(they do not fall out) The Coasters are unmarked, but a lot of early Victorian Silver never was marked and judging by the quality they were made by a fine period Silver company. The Cast fancy designs around the top are applied in sections, the lines you see in the photos are original and not cracks, there is no cracks throughout. VINTAGE PAIR SILVER LEAF/ ETCHED GLASS COASTERS For sale are a pair of vintage silver leaf/ etched glass coasters. Each measures approx. 4" in diameter and are about 3/4" tall. The coasters are unmarked but came from an estate that had similar age coasters marked by Webster or Frank M. Whiting. These coasters have a pretty center star design in the heavy glass and the perimeter is covered with what appears to be a thin sheet of silver leaf. The silver leaf on one coaster has a smooth rim. And the silver leaf on the other coaster has cuts on the edge and is coming away from the glass a little. The silver leaf does have a pretty design etched into it. Sold"as is" vintage condition. They have no damage whatsoever and are exceptionally clean, have been sympathetically and professionally cleaned by my Mother, a retired Antique Restorer and Jeweller. Photographed are a good pair of silver plated coasters each measuring 8 cm in diameter by 3.5 cm in height. They have hard wood bases; one has been repaired on the base as can be seen in the photograph. They are attractive and look just like silver with no wear to the plate at all. Finest Antique English Elkington Silver Plate Wine Coasters (Pair) - 1854
A magnificent set of early Victorian Elkington silver plate wine coasters. With attractive double cast wire sides with the edges decorated with a fabulous cast grape vine design, top quality and fine detail. The coasters have turned wooden bases, with a vacant central silverplate boss. One has an old grain crack, perfectly stable and shown purely for accuracy. The underside of the wooden bases are covered in green felt. Both coasters carry a full set of marks, including makers mark"E& Co. in a shield under a crown, E" M" Co" being the makers mark used by Elkington, Mason& Co between 1842 and 1864. Josiah Mason invested in the Elkington firm in 1842, hence the addition of his name to the company name. The makers mark is followed by the date letter P in a lozenge for 1854. Elkington& Co are one of the most important ... morenames in English silver. The firm was founded in 1836, in 1838 they patented a new way to electroplate, and in 1851 they exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851(Crystal Palace in Hyde Park) with great success. The company held Royal warrants from Queen Victoria until George VI. Most coasters produced between 1850 and 1900 were silverplate. This substantial pair of Old Sheffield Plate wine coasters were made circa 1815. They have polished wood bases and the main body is semi-fluted with an applied decoration to the upper rim. This is a superb pair of antique Sheffield plate coasters each measuring 7" 18 cms) across x just under 2" 5 cms) high. These coasters are in super condition for their age with ssuper grape and vine decoration around the edges. The wooden bases have a hallmarked sterling silver centre though the marks are a little faded and difficult to make out- you can see the makers mark for D&S and this was the mark registered by James Dixon& Sons in 1829 and was used by them between 1830 and 1847. Antique Silver Plated Magnum Size Wine Coasters Description A pair of mid to late 19th century antique wine coasters dating around 1870 making them Victorian in period. They are of large size for their type with an internal diameter of about 14cm which would suit most magnum sized decanters or champagne bottles. The coasters are of pressed metal and silver plated pierced style sides in classical form. There are no makers marks which is quite typical for this period. The bases are of typical turned hardwood form and there are silver plated roundels to the centres. To the underside they appear to sport the original green baize fabric. Pair of Square Silver Plated Decanter Coasters circa 1830-40
A pair of silver plated square decanter coasters; they are unusual because they are square in form and they have a top plated metal base with an underbase of felt lined wood. The coasters have gadroon borders. One of which has lifted and there is a small dent on the same coaster, as can be seen from the photos, and both have worn(from cleaning) fluted borders with a base of four concentric circles; there are discolouration marks on the plated bases. The coasters have no makers marks as far as I can tell and my speculation is that this pair may have been an apprentice piece or perhaps a bench test of a potential employee; they must have been of sufficient quality to be plated and polished. A Pair of Sheffield plate square spirit decanter coasters c.1820-1840's. Unsigned, that could also be used as wine decanter coasters and are most unusual because of the square form and that the bases are plated and wood lined, rather than having just a wooden insert. Condition of both coasters is good for their age and are not dented but do show signs of wear. One of the coasters has 2 small pieces of damage; the beading has a small crack and there is a small loss of plate on another edge. Neither of which would spoil their intended use or their beauty, but both of the coasters' plating show signs of long term cleaning and small spots of corrosion that is not easy to discern from the photographs. A fine and impressive pair of antique Georgian English sterling silver coasters; part of our wine and drinks related silverware collection. Description. These fine antique George III sterling silver coasters have a circular cylindrical form with a rounded rim encircling the base. Each coaster is embellished with impressive shaped pierced undulating horizontal pale decoration accented with vertical arrangements of circular motifs amidst bands of simplified bright cut engraved leaf ornamentation. The decoration to the body of each piece incorporates a vacant shaped rectangular cartouche. The undulating rim of each coaster is ornamented with an applied bead decorated border. The coasters have impressive mahogany bases with a natural button inset to the centre of each; ... morethe mahogany has an aesthetically pleasing mellow appearance. Each coaster is fitted with green baize to the underside. Condition These antique coasters are a very good gauge of silver. Fine quality and in excellent presentation condition. The decoration to each piece is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each coaster are rubbed; the nature of the coasters dictates the location of the hallmarks. Resulting in their shallow struck nature and subsequent wear, in keeping with age. In this instance the hallmarks remain legible under an eyeglass with exception of the maker and one date letter. A Pair of George III Old Sheffield Plate Decanter Coasters c1810 This is for a pair of antique George III old Sheffield plate decanter coasters. Circa 1810. Made of old Sheffield plate. Each of circular form with curved sides, decorated with a gadrooned edge. Each inset with a turned hardwood base, probably fruit wood. The underside with a green baize cover. Both are unmarked. The silver has light surface wear showing the copper beneath, and there are a few small areas of through wear to the gadrooned decoration, one of the turned wood bases is slightly warped, and rocks slightly,the condition is otherwise excellent. Welcome to A ntiques& Moore! This listing is for a lovely matched pair of 19th Century English"Old Sheffield Plate" OSP) Wine Coasters. C. 1830. Gorgeous pair of fused silver over copper Wine Coasters with ornate applied scroll edge in high relief. Nice internal turned wood bases with silver button in center. The coasters are in excellent Estate condition with no damage. However, the beautiful warm copper layer below the silver is seen at the edges and raised areas. One has more exposed copper on the inside of the design(see photos) no other noted flaws. Measure 1 1/2" high and 7" in diameter. The inside diameter is 4 1/4" Combined weight is 1.9 pounds. History: Old Sheffield Plate is a process invented in 1742 where a sheet of sterling silver was fused onto a sheet of copper and then crafted by hand into almost ... moreany type item that had been previously made of solid silver. There was no requirement to mark"OSP" so most pieces are dated by style and the way they are made(which can fairly accurately date the piece within 5-10 years either way) Some of the silversmiths who worked with this silver process used assorted trademark stamps.
