Gorgeous Antique Tiger Oak Drop Leaf Gate Leg Table
This is a very good condition tiger oak drop leaf gate leg table. I was unable to find a maker anywhere on the table. It appears to be early 20th century. There are no major cracks or broken parts on the table. There is an nseen repair board underneath that can be seen in the picture. It does have the usual petina of an antique table but as you can see is in great shape. The table measures 39" wide x 30" long x 29" tall when open and is 14" wide when closed. I don't know where or when it was made as there are no markings on it. It needs to be refinished as there are sections(see photos) where the finish is worn away. Rich solid oak The wood used in this piece is a rich selection of solid oak. With a deep, lustrous complexion and a pronounced grain that have grown more beautiful over the years as a patina has settled in. The result is a strong, attractive oak aged over time as only antiques are. However, the wood has sustained some very minor wear marks, on the table top and legs. These are normal for a gate leg table of this age, and contribute to the genuine character of this wonderful piece. Antique Carved Gate Leg / Drop Leaf Table English / Irish Oak 1800-1899
For auction is an adorable. Oval top, carved occasional gate leg table. I purchased about 5 years ago, and the table was marked Irish, 1830's. I am not an expert, hopefully you are: and can date and/or place the table. I can tell that it's made of oak, the carving is very well executed, and the table is overall in very good condition. Size- it's diminutive. Just 24" in height, 21" wide at large side of oval, 18.5" at small side of oval. When closed, table is just 6.5" across, so closed size is 18" x 6.5" I believe that the table has it's original finish; I've kept the table in a quiet corner of the house. And have oiled it a couple of times(with orange oil) while in possession. There is a'patch' on one of the'leaves' where it split some time ago. The split is visible on the ... moretable top- but in my view does not take anything way. On the underside of the table two metal straps were added for support. Unusual small"petite" size drop leaf gate leg table with scalloped edges. The table has turned barley twist legs. The oak table measures about 28" tall. With both leaves in the closed position the table is 11 1/2" x 24" x 28" tall. Each leaf is about is about 11 1/4" With both leaves open the table measures 35" x 24" x 28" tall. The top of the table is quarter sawn tiger oak. The original finish has been top coated with hand rubbed shellac. The top has been restored. Shellac has been applied too the top along with hand rubbed and polished paste wax. The table is in very good pre-owned antique condition.
