Item# 120011RYI24 ... moreThis listing is for a remarkable and very fine Sheraton Pembroke table of the Federal Period. Crafted in New York during the first quarter of the 19th Century. It is a magnificent work, using the most incredible solid mahogany boards available for the overall presentation. Each leaf is a very broad single plank of full grained glowing mahogany, the middle most board a full 21 1/4" across the grain; each was flawlessly planed by hand until the surface was perfectly smooth, at which point a french polish was applied. This is a labor intensive and difficult finish to apply, layer after countless layer of shellac being rubbed into the surface by hand, but when done properly the result is breathtaking. The surface absolutely shimmers, the deep reds of the mahogany glowing through with utter brilliance. The leaves are notched and rounded. Giving an overall"cloud" form to each hanging surface, these lifting over hand forged iron hinges with entirely original screws. The top projects just slightly over the front, lining up perfectly along the sides such that the leaves rest squarely against the frame when in dropped form. One side of the table has a faux drawer with cockbead molding around it. The other side has a very deep drawer without cockbead molding, both having bold original polished brass stamped handles. Inside of the drawer. A white label is affixed on the left side from a dealer who once carried the table"Edwin C. Charming antique Federal style side or end table. Wood looks like mahogany. Small raised gallery around the two-piece rectangular top. Tappered square legs with embellished spade feet. Two striking geometric brass pulls on drawer. Nice. Broad drawer is well made with dovetail joints. The finish has alligatored, especially on the table top, giving the piece a wonderful aged patina. This table is in very good estate condition. However. There is some wear to the feet and there are some small dents and dings to the table top and gallery. See pictures. Very beautiful. Mid Century reproduction of the antique William Kent, Georgian, or French Empire, Federal Eagle console or entry table. This amazing table features realistic features and exquisite detailing in a deep relief which replicates hand carving. The table consists of a large eagle with outstetched wings resting on a raised plinth. The eagle has deep patterning and realistic details all in a beautiful gilded finish. The fabulous marble top is black with beautiful white veins. It is mounted on a gorgeous carved frieze with carved, curved details and finished with an egg and dart pattern. The table is probably Italian made. The previous owners lived in Italy for many years and their children indicated that they had it shipped from Italy when they moved. It is in extraordinary condition and looks practically new. There is one small section ... moreof what appears to be a repair on one corner of the marble top. I recently had an antiques appraiser make a visit to my home to evaluate a set of four pieces of this furniture(all of which are on eBay at this time) All of these furniture items have been in my family for about 65 years and were all refinished by my grandfather some years ago in a dark finish(see images) All are built very well and strong. Quite heavy. This antique table measures approximately 54.5" in diameter by 30.5" tall. The table is very solid but does need some work. ANTIQUE MAHOGANY MARTHA WASHINGTON SEWING TABLE, 1900-1950, FEDERAL
This unusual sewing cabinet has seven-sided beveled wood sides. It is a very sturdy. All original piece made of solid mahogany with three drawers, one with a sliding compartment for thread and other sewing notions. It also has two flip-top compartments on either end for sewing or knitting supplies. Measurements are 28 1/2"W x 14 1/2" D x 30"H. This piece has been in my family(my grandmother's) for at least 55 years, but could be older. The finish overall looks very good, except for the top which has some discoloration in the finish,some scratches typical of a piece of this age. This table was made with the finest book matched flame mahogany veneers over solid mahogany. Reeded edge and reeded straight tapered legs. Measures 36 inches round by 17.75 inches high. Schmieg and Kotzian established a furniture making business in London in 1899; in 1907. The business relocated to New York. After Karl Schmieg died in 1949, the company continued on for a few more years, but was then sold. Both Karl Schmieg and Heinrich Kotzian were German cabinet makers, who were trained in the traditional European apprentice system. Approx. size: 29"tall x 28" long x 14" deep. Note: There are imperfections. There are scrapes. Scratches, dings, marks. chips. Some scratches are deeper than others. Bottom drawer sticks slightly.
