The piece had been in the family forever but they let her choose 1 piece to bring home.They called it a wedding chest and, since they had no girls to pass it down to, they let her have it. I have no idea how old it is, only that it is very, very old. If I had to guess, I'd say late 1700's, early 1800's. There are a lot of chips of the"japanned" edges. Some of the pictures make the chips look A LOT lighter than it actually looks in person. The flash must do that. I had an estimate of apx. $500 to repair the chips. To get to the mirror, you open the top 2 pieces that then rest on the side"arms" that fold out, then you lift up the next piece. It has 4 drawers. These can sell for a lot more at other auction houses. It stands apx. 35" high, 24" wide, 16 3/4" deep. Fully open it is 43 1/2 wide. This splendid Victorian dresser offers beautiful raised panels of burl walnut on the mirror portion as well as on the drawer fronts. And the top of the mirror has a wonderful carved cartouche with walnut roundels accenting the top portion of the mirror. This lovely dresser measures a total height to the top of the pediment on the mirror of 91 inches( 7ft 6" The dresser width measures 42 1/4 inches, dresser depth measures 18 1/4 inches, and the height from the floor to the top of the marble measures 29 1/4 inches, and this piece weighs approximately 150 lbs. The mirror portion and the marble does lift off to allow easier transport and moving. We believe the mirror to be original and it measures 35 inches high by 19 inches wide and does show some light spotting that's age appropriate. The marble on the base is also original and is in wonderful antique condition with no chips or cracks. The dresser base offers three storage drawers each having the original brass Eastlake pulls and all the locks are intact on the drawers but we do not have they key. Finials, carved Lion heads,burl walnut panel accents and a fancy carved scroll and shell gallery as well as the original beautiful brown marble top and the original brass hardware and early dove-tailed ends on the drawers. This sideboard/ buffet measures a total height of 82 1/2 inches( 6 ft 10 1/2 in) to the top of the carvings on the very top center. Height from the floor to the top of the brown marble measures 36 1/2 inches,with a total width of 48 1/4 inches and a depth at the base of 21 1/2 inches and this pieces weighs approximately 250 lbs. This sideboard does dis-assemble into 4 pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. The fine display shelf above the marble measures 26 inches in height above the marble top and the shelf measures 43 inches wide by 11 inches deep.The larger mirror measures 19 inches high by 33 inches wide, and the three mirrors at the top each measure 10 inches wide by 6 inches high. This is a fabulous piece in wonderful antique condition and the original brown marble top is also just beautiful with no apologies we can find. All the locks are intact but the key provided just aids in opening the cabinet doors and does not work the locks. There is a small piece of carving missing on the left side of the pediment inside of one of the scrolls. I have shown a close-up of in the pictures and appears to have been missing for a long time.nothing major in my opinion and definitely doesn't distract from the beauty of this gorgeous 19th century piece. The wood appears to be mahogany and it has a dark finish. There is a beautifully carved crown on the hutch above the server. The hutch has 3 doors all of them have locks and a key. The 2 side doors are paneled with small floral carvings to match the crown. The center door has beveled glass that appears to be original old glass. There are no breaks. Cracks, chips or scuffs on the glass. There is an adjustable shelf inside the hutch doors. The lower center back of the hutch holds a beveled edge mirror. The mirror is in great condition too with no chips, cracks or breaks. The top of the buffet server is ivory marble and in great shape. There are no chips, cracks or breaks that I can see in the marble. The corners of the marble are rounded and smooth and the top surface is smooth to the touch. The buffet has 3 paneled doors and 2 dovetail drawers all have locks and a key. We have 3 keys to this piece. The keyhole plate is missing from the front of the right side lower door. This piece is very elegant. The corners of the hutch and server are reeded and carved with flowers that match the crown. The front feet are reeded bulb style. We purchased this piece from a couple that bought it in Holland and had it shipped to the US for their home. This is an exterior cast iron eyebrow cornice facade. Most historic commercial buildings have cornices to cap their facades. Usually found in buildings constructed before 1900. Cast iron and sheet metal were used for cornices, window or facades. Iron is approx 100 years old and each piece is an Architectural Antique. Many are now used as headboards. Tables, room dividers. Garden trellises and as art displayed on interior and exterior walls. As you can see in the photos there is patina rusting but nothing out of character on such pieces.
