Antique Bradley & Hubbard Ornate Cast Iron Bronzed Bacchus Mirror Frame
Antique ornate cast iron bronzed mirror frame depicting the head of the Greek God Bacchus. The rest of the frame is a tremendous amount of work in the Art Nouveau style. This has the original formed tin sheet that is the backing to hold the mirror in the frame. There is no mirror. A replacement will be required and can be acquired at any glass and mirror shop in almost all towns and cities. They are inexpensive. This is marked B&H, and has a bronze ring to hang it with. Manufactured around 1870. It is almost identical to an easel bronze Bacchus bronze mirror frame I have listed as well. But the easel mirror frame is not marked. Both were acquired from the same estate and they were used as a set, one on a parlour table, the other hanging above it. The two bottom corners of this piece have no feet as does the easel frame, and less flourish ... moreon these two corners. It is impossible to tell if this was manufactured this way as part of this set, or if an early owner had it customized this way to hang above the easel frame in my other listing. A very beautiful example of early cast iron and bronze guilding. This piece is 14.25" tall. And 9.5" wide, and heavy. Payment by PayPal only- No eChecks. Antique gold or gilt painted cast iron easel framed mirror. It measures 17 1/2" x 13 1/2" with a mirror that measures 7 3/4" x 9 3/4" The beveled mirror shows quite a few age spots and has some rough edges behind the framing. It's the original mirror I believe. The easel stand has a small little loop broken off the very end(photo 6) There are no broken areas on the frame itself. Check out this offering of a gorgeous and ornate late 1800's gilt cast iron framed mirror! The intricate design involves a scrolled leaf motif with a small bouquet a the top(accented with pink) with additional pink accent at the bottom center. This mirror has a hinged easel back for display on a dresser or vanity but could also be hung quite easily if desired. The original beveled mirror is intact with no cracks but there is a small chip in the upper right and there are spots on the silver backing that are missing. The original paperboard back is still in place. While the mirror itself is not perfect. It produces a good image overall. It could be repaired or replaced easily if you didn't want to keep the original charm- ... morefurther, you could replace the mirror with a picture and use this item for it's frame appeal. Antique easil beveled mirror/picture frame heavy iron purple antiqued
This is a very unique antique mirror or it could be a picture frame. I got this at an estate sale. The lady was 102 and still living. They had to put her in assisted living. She had a house full of antiques, how old this mirror is I do not know but by the looks of everything else I would say very old. I do not know what the metal is. It is very heavy, it weights over 8 lbs. so it could be cast iron? I just can not say because I do not know for sure. I was told that if a magnet stuck it was iron. The magnet sticks. It has a old mirror in it now but it could hold a picture. It has the swivel stand. It can stand or hang. The mirror has the dark spots and gray lines in it. The mirror is beveled. The lady loved purple. Everything she had was purple. The frame looks like it has been antiqued purple with a white wash, some of the brass shows through ... morea little. This piece has a cast iron or wrought iron frame that would hang on the wall and the beveled edge mirror fits within the frame. The mirror would rather“float” between the iron frame. It has two decorative hinge type connectors that would secure the mirror. I am not a very“handy” type person and I cannot get the mirror inside this frame. It seems too wide. But I know that is just because I do not know how to secure it. This mirror definitely goes with this frame, so it has to fit. I know a“handy” type person could get it secured. If you are"unhandy. like me, you get 2 cool separate pieces! The frame is a cast iron or wrought iron black metal piece in very good condition– no rust– very good condition. The metal has a twisted ribbon like look. I have yet to find any maker’s mark on this piece. But it could be that I do not know where to ... morelook. Due to the design– a maker’s mark could be hidden. The mirror has a thick rough or scalloped type beveled edge. I was going to say no chips. But on closer I think there may possibly be a chip in one of the scallops. Rather hard to tell due to the decorative cut at the edges of the mirror. Also. As you can see, the silver or mercury backing has worn off in several places. It is an old piece. Exact age unknown– I do not know if this is an older vintage piece– I assume collectors can tell by the mirror cut and the frame style- Size: The metal frame measures approx 12 3/4ths inches in length. The center cut-out measures approx 6 1/4 by 4 1/8th inches. The mirror measures approx 5 3/4ths by 3 5/8ths inches. It is approx 1/4 inch thick at the edges. Condition: The cast iron frame still looks very good. As you can see. The back of the mirror shows much wear. As stated above, the mirror has a thick rough beveled edge and it is difficult to tell, but there may be a chip on one of the scalloped edges. High detailed 3-leaf Shamrocks on the perimeter of an oval beveled mirror. Scrolls and beading design on the inside perimeter. The back has an easel arm to display the mirror. The frame is in Great condition. The mirror has wear– where the clips were there is wear and silver is missing on the back– on the bottom is a larger spot where silver has crackled and is missing. The mirror has chipping around the perimeter. I added a light cardboard frame on the back to prevent further silver damage. Original clips and screws on the back to hold the cardboard and the mirror in place. The back has an impressed“143” at the top. Measures approximately 12” x 8 1/4” With the ease out– it is approximately 4” depth. Quality decorative antique mirror– weighs approximate 2 ¼ lbs.
