This is a Sheraton giltwood mirror that I am selling.It is not marked but I believe it is by James Todd of Portland Maine and dates to 1830. It measures 34 3/4" high and is 16 3/4" wide. It has and overhanging cornice. Turned pillars and the cornice is decorated with balls. It has had restoration and some repainting before I got it. RARE ANTIQUE 1950 SPAIN GILTWOOD LARGE MIRROR TOLE WALL SCONCE BY FERRACOLOR
We are pleased to offer this very rare. Exceptional piece. This offering features a 1950s Spanish Giltwood frame large wall mirror with attached gilt tole lighted wall sconce. This incredible mirror/sconce is marked with the Ferracolor, Made in Spain, metal tag which is still attached to the sconce. This is an exceptionally rare and beautiful piece. The mirror is large and the giltwood frame is quite ornate. It features an intricately carved wood frame with Neoclassical design. It is accented with acanthus leaf scrolls, curved lines and a carved shell in the center bottom. The large, 3 light tole sconce features wheat leaves with acanthus leaf accents found under each lighted arm of the sconce. All are gold gilt and are in exceptional condition. There is expected aging to the tole sconce in just a couple of areas, but overall it still maintains ... moreits beautiful and original gold finish. The mirror frame is in immaculate condition for its age. It shows only minor aging in just a few spots but nothing that is easy to see except upon very close inspection. The mirror has some aging at the top in the form of a cloudy, lightly spotted appearance(see pictures 9& 10) Again, this does not stand out much except with close inspection. Otherwise, very good to excellent condition. The sconce is attached. Through the mirror with screws. It has been given the ability for the sconce to move a little for adjustment. The power cord features an on/off switch. It is vintage, but in good condition and the sconce is working perfectly. I have pictured with only one lighted bulb as 3 makes it a little too bright to photograph well. The mirror frame measures 38.5" wide and 34.5" tall. The sconce is 34.5" wide and measures 6" tall at the tallest leafed section and 7.5" tall at the center arm. Ferracolor pieces are exceptional in quality and extremely hard to find. ANTIQUE OLD VICTORIAN FRENCH TWIST GOLD LEAF GILTWOOD FRAME MANTEL MIRROR 41"
This offering is for a beautiful and OLD. Victorian/Arts& Crafts large wall or mantel mirror. This gorgeous mirror features a substantial(chunky, if you will) solid wood frame made of turned wood with a center section of French or Barley twist accent. Trimmed similarly to an old window or door, the frame has four large corner blocks with an Arts and Crafts styled floral bouquet/basket appliques. The spool wood is hand fitted into the back wood frame which is also thick and substantial. The frame has been gilded and the color is now a beautiful, aged gold or bronzed color. The mirror is in very good condition for its age(early 1900s) There is some expected wear/aging to the patina of the wood. There are some minor scratches and chips but these are not distracting and actually compliment the character of the piece. There appears to have ... morebeen one minor repair to the frame where it meets the mirror. It appears as a piece was cracked and has been glued to secure it(see picture 11) It is holding quite well with no issues. The back is faced with paper. The old hangers have been removed with a center hanger attached. I think the mirror is too heavy for a single hanger so you may want to add an additional hanger. The mirror is meant to hang horizontally as the corner floral baskets dictate this(otherwise, they will hang side ways) The mirrored glass is in good condition with no chips, cracks or loss of back coating. The deeply molded frame is embellished with large carved wooden beads, these also covered in the same thin layer of gesso employed on the entire surface prior to gilding. Clearly the mirror has seen it's fair share of history and active use, the surface having been overpainted at some point to refresh the gilding, this now also seeing loss- however, it somehow ends up only being more endearing with the craquelure and discolorations. AMERICAN FEDERAL GILTWOOD EGLOMISE ANTIQUE PIER MIRROR Probably Massachusetts c. 1810 Item# 502GXQ22 A fine work that almost certainly was produced along the North Shore of Massachusetts. The form is elegant and perfectly conforming with the distinctly neoclassical tastes of America during the first years of the 19th century. This form of pier mirror was crafted extensively in both New York City and Massachusetts during this period, primarily Boston and Salem. The crest projects boldly over the mirror with a series of round droplets affixed on wire through the top of the mirror. Above the triple reeded corinthian columns flanking the mirror are wonderful carved acanthus, draping along the curved molding that flanks a carved and gilded panel of a single rose with outflowing foliage. The present example closely relates to a pair of mirrors ... moreheld in the Mabel Brady Garvan Collection(Barquist, f. 182) the acanthus carvings on this mirror clearly being more bold and executed with greater confidence. A reverse painted tablet featuring a Greco-Roman classical scene rests above the old glass of the mirror. We have not removed the backboards to more closely examine the glass. As the backboards appear to be undisturbed; however, it does appear to be a period glass and correct for the piece. The square blocks of the lower corners and rectangular blocks of the upper corners are divided diagonally with panels of light and dark gilding. This very fine acquisition remains preserved in excellent condition- it will be a wonderful addition to any collection of Federal taste.
