Lovely old Ogee Mirror or frame found at an Estate Sale in Virginia in the 1980s. Maintained in my non-smoking home. This is the perfect size for over a small bathroom sink. In a hall by the coat tree to check your hat, or tucked anywhere. Actual size is approximately 18-3/4" x 22-3/8. The frame is deep, with three main parts. The mahogany veneer has lovely variations/flames. The piece can be used as a mirror. Or would be lovely as a frame for a period portrait. The frame is in lovely condition with only one small area of veneer loss. It came with a thick. Heavy mirror and a substantial solid wood back. The back was semi-secured, and when I removed the nails, I found an inscription, which is shown in one of the photos. The mirror has some slight(but age appropriate) silvering losses. I see one tiny knick on the inner left edge, near the mirror at about 10 o'clock. Great old dark patina on this wood. I'm guessing it has the sunlight hitting it on the right side for a hundred hears. This is made from one block of wood. No glue. The frame measures 11 1/2 inches diameter The mirror area is 6 inches diameter. The frame is 1 1/2 inches thick. The mirror is a replacement. The thumb tack was holding a string for hanging. Antique Mahogany Empire Ogee Mahogany Frame w Vintage Antique 8x10"+ Mirror
Up for auction is an antique Empire Ogee mahogany frame with vintage antique 8x 10"+ mirror recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It has losses to the veneer and losses to the mirror. It would have been a dresser mirror with the way it had side handles for swiveling for shaving. Brushing hair etc. There are losses to the mirror and it appears hand cut but we do not know if it was original to the frame but it is antique. It does retain its original wood backing shield cover. A very nice frame that looks great in its current distressed state. Lovely mahogany in a classic antique boudoir dresser or shaving stand shape. Best of luck in bidding. This is an old mirror and it has held up very nicely over the years. The design is actually quite interesting with its roundel tipped whorls facing outward and over the acanthus finials. The acanthus flourish in the top center is unique as well. The border is all reeded with block corners. The mirror has some small spots. As is expected in an old mirror, but it has very minor spotting compared to what you normally see. There is also a scratch on the lower right side, and some wear/ scratching to the wood frame, as should be expected in an older piece. The back has a strong wire support. But there is also screw-in hardware on the sides, as I believe it was once mounted on a chest or dresser of some sort. ... moreMeasures about 37.5" tall in the center. And about 26" wide. VTG CARVED MAHOGANY EMPIRE EAGLE MIRROR PICTURE FRAME ELABORATE VINES FLOWER 36"
We are pleased to offer this beautiful. Ornate wall mirror. The mirror is carved mahogany wood with a dark, reddish brown and gilt finish. The frame is adorned with elaborate details in Empire style. There is an eagle perched on top. Vines, flowers and leaves cascade down the sides and there is a drapery accent present around the center opening. There are also accents of urns and"c scrolls" All of the carvings have deep dimensions and the frame is not flat. Some of the details have a gilded finish to contrast with the mahogany wood. The backing is mahogany. There is no glass on the frame. The frame is not marked. It is sectioned together as evidenced on the back profile. The backing is held on with metal holders and flat screws. This is a very beautiful frame. It is in very good condition with little evidence of age or use. There ... moreappears to have been some gluing to one of the sections on the back side. It is not visible from the front. I do not know the age of the frame or if the finish has been restored. It is an elaborate work of art and it is gorgeous. Up for bid is the vintage/antique OVAL WALL-HUNG MIRROR. As seen in the pictures/ as described in the title. Features a beveled edge mirror and a mahogany wood frame(I think.could be another heavy/high density wood variety) Backing is very old, patinaed plywood, nailed. 2) steel hanging brackets are installed at rear and show very thick/rich patina. Edge molding(decorative plaster? has some damage. About 50% of it has chipped off, at multiple areas around the circumference. In my opinion, it only adds to the character of the piece and enhances its antique look. Aside from the damaged edge, this piece is in excellent, like-new condition. NO cracks, chips or scratches to the mirror. Frame is solid& sturdy with minimal, small/minor blemishes. Wood backing is a bit warped but not an issue whatsoever. Brackets are secure and strong. I see ... moreno visible maker's marks, etc. Being offered for sale AS-FOUND, uncleaned. Cosmetic condition is as clearly& accurately shown in the pictures. Please inspect all of them carefully.
