This frame measures 30 3/8" in length by 17 1/4" at it's widest point and is in great vintage shape. I believe the wood is cherry. Suter's also makes furniture out of walnut and mahogany. Thomas Chippendale was a major contributor to furniture design in the 18th century and was celebrated for his book The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director. Published in 1754. After publication of Chippendale's book, furniture makers across the globe used his designs in their work, often combining his trademark elements with others. This piece is Federal Chippendale and dates to the 1880s. It is finely crafted of mahogany and mahogany veneers and features a classic Chippendale scroll at the top and bottom with an otherwise simple Federal style profile. It retains its original finish.
