Antique Victorian Convex Gold Gilt Wood Gesso Federal Eagle Framed Wall Mirror
This is a fantastic antique Federal Eagle crested convex wall mirror with 13 balls around the frame signifying the 13 colonies. It is an original antique piece from around the turn of the century. The frame and glass are in excellent condition. Nothing is missing, or broken, the gesso is 100% complete, the crest and decorative piece on the bottom are tightly intact and not loose or cracked, and the mirror doesn't have any missing silver or age spots. The frame might have been re-painted at one time, but if it was, it was long ago and not obvious. Some of the 13 balls have recently been touched up where the paint was chipped(shown in the close-up of the ball) but the touchup paint matches nicely. The gesso has some shallow hairline cracks typical for its age, but nothing is loose. One of the eagle's wingtips has a small area of paint ... morechipped off. There is a new piece of cardboard and new nails on the back along with new eye hooks and a new hanging wire(in my opinion though, the hooks are too small and the wire is too thin so replacements might be necessary. The outer dimensions of the frame are 31" H x 21" W. It will be packed very well. Double boxed, and insured during shipping. It is guaranteed to arrive safely.

30 3/4" tall. 22 1/2" wide, eagle has a 12 1/4" wing span, exposed part of the mirror is 17 1/4" with it fitting in an 18 1/2" hole in the back. It probably originally had a convex bulls eye mirror in it. 13 balls around the perimeter representing the 13 colonies. Some minor age cracking but overall a very nice example with excellent quality carving to the wood. Probably some gesso around it too. This is an old mirror and it has held up very nicely over the years. The design is actually quite interesting with its roundel tipped whorls facing outward and over the acanthus finials. The acanthus flourish in the top center is unique as well. The border is all reeded with block corners. The mirror has some small spots. As is expected in an old mirror, but it has very minor spotting compared to what you normally see. There is also a scratch on the lower right side, and some wear/ scratching to the wood frame, as should be expected in an older piece. The back has a strong wire support. House This beautiful antique mirror measures 12" x 21" overall. With a mirror size of 8" x 10" It appears to be all original, with the possible exception of the eye screws and wire on the back. The reverse hand painted top panel is old and slightly wavy glass, and features a sailboat and farm or house landscape highlighted with gold gilt paint. There are some water spots(mostly on the sky) and some loss of paint(mostly on the bottom) The mirror is thin and early, and there is some silver loss along the edges, as well as overall spotting/speckling. The construction is out of mahogany(I think) With antique square cut nails and an old shingle ... morefor a back. The original finish has deepened and crackled as expected with such an early piece. There are some scratches along the sides.marks of long and honest use. I removed the back because something was rattling around(one of the mirror shims) and it looks like someone tried to stabilize the silver loss with foil and lacquer. It doesn't effect the appearance, but I wanted to point it out. Also, the frame is slightly warped. It looks fine on the wall, but you may notice a raised corner when looking from the side. There are no musty smells. In spite of any signs of age or flaws, it's a unique piece that displays beautifully. Please see all pictures for additional details. VINTAGE LARGE 1960 MID-CENTURY GOLD WALL FEDERAL EAGLE CONVEX MIRROR SYROCO 4010. THIS IS THE LARGER MIRROR MEASURING 28" X 17 12" THE MIRROR ITSELF MEASURES ABOUT 13" IN DI AMETER. IT HAS A NICE PATINA ON IT. I DID NOT TRY TO CLEAN IT. THERE IS A SMALL CRACK UNDER THE EAGLE ON THE RIGHT SIDE. IT WAS GLUED OR REPAIRED WHEN I PURCHASED IT AT A TENNESSEE ESTATE SALE. I TOOK IT OFF THE WALL AND DIDN'T NOTICE IT UNTIL I STARTED LISTING IT. THE MIRROR HAS A SMALL SCRATCH LESS THAN A 1/2" LONG AND A FEW LIGHT SPOTS PROBABLY FROM AGE. Click photos for larger image! Description& Condition: Up for sale is this antique circa 1840 Federal carved mahogany 2 part wall mirror. It is all original including backboard and mirrors. It has carved half columns with brass rosettes at the top and reeded columns at the bottom. It measures 36" tall by 18" wide at the top. It is in good all original condition with some minor loss to the original silvering on both mirrors and a small sliver of wood on upper right top board.
