The ink tubes are pliable but you will have to poke out the dried ink with a needle or some other sort of tool. I didn’t want to try because I didn’t want to get ink all over the place. I’m not exactly sure where the ink goes. In one of the pictures you can see a spot where there must have been a company sticker or something. I believe it will come off with goo-be-gone or some other cleanser. In this day and age it is a great way to make sure your checks aren’t washed and written over. Up for auction today is a Vintage Paymaster Check Writer Series S-1000 in Excellent Working Condition. These machines are so well made. They are actually still available for sale at Paymaster.com. You can even still get parts, ink, etc. Very useful machine. This is the S-1000 Series machine which uses ink rollers. As well as"embossing" the amount of the check on the paper. It measures just over 7" wide. Near 11" deep, and stands 7" tall. There is a number plate on the back that is either the model or serial number, it reads 7L203584. The original price stamped into the machine reads"Price $243.50" The Paymaster Corp. 1811 W. Winnemac ... moreAve. Chicago, Ill. 60640. It is colored a light green color with dark front panel that reads Dollars Cents. And has numbers running down the front. It has 7 windows and 7 movable knobs, 5 for Dollars and 2 for cents, making the largest check it can write at $99,999.99. Not a small sum indeed! There is a large handle on the side that is pulled forward to stamp the check and it comes with the original key. We stamped a piece of paper to show how the machine works and most likely it can use some fresh ink. This model is also capable of stamping the company name as well. As this one reads"Kartch of Hackensack Inc. We placed a simple white sheet of paper in the front and pulled down on the handle and you can see the machine did emboss and print on the paper as it would a check. The condition of this machine is very good to excellent with a few minor scratches and some storage dust& dirt and could use a gentle cleaning. As far as operation. You can see it works as well as it ever did, but can use some fresh ink or rollers. This piece is very heavy and will show this with the shipping costs. Fully functional vintage ribbon check writer. It has the name PAYMASTER on it and says Series 8000. Manufactured by The Paymaster Corp, 1811 W. Winnemac Ave. Chicago, Ill 60640. It has a price on it of $374.50. The patent number is 8N355553 which is, I believe, from the 1960's. Ribbon looks like new and prints very well(see picture) I took off back plate to show you condition of ribbon. Original key is included as well as the plastic cover. This check writer is in amazing condition with very few flaws. Two small paint rubs on front right corner and back left corner(see pics) Very well taken care of as evidence of no scratches. This was probably never used. It's that nice! S/h is $18.

You are viewing a 1950s vintage Paymaster 8 column S-600 check writer in it's original box. In working condition. It comes with the key. The levers, pulleys, and handle are all in working condition. I have not removed the ink pad to check condition. The chrome is still shiny although some areas show slight surface rust. It can probably be polished out as it is very minor. View pictures for further inspection. This machine looks like it was barely used. Originally retailed for $139.50 in the 1950's per back label affixed to machine. This machine weighs 16 lbs. Very art deco, olive& metallic green check writer with original cover and key Paymaster corp. Of PA in Philadelphia, Series S-1000! Some of the $ tabs and the handle and the clear/repeat switch and the one in the back on the side are all a really cool metallic green with black veins running through them. The other 3 keys are an ivory white. The fonts and colors of the numbers and the pattern on the machine itself are a cool retro art deco style! There is some ink left on the rollers so I was able to put in some numbers and press the handle down on some paper and show in the photos that it works properly. It does tend to pinch the paper a little bit but I may be doing something wrong as well and using a full sheet of paper, not a check size. The clear/repeat switch does it job as far as I can tell. One or two of the $$ switches are a little gummy the machine could use an oil and cleaning as we do not clean our items so that we do not damage or devalue them. Not seeing any paint loss, there is a

Arm unlocks and works as do the last dollar and two cent levers. We could not get the first four dollar levers to move but we don't know if that's because we were not operating it correctly(maybe another locking mechanism) or if it needs servicing/oiling, etc. We did not test it any further to determine if it works. This belonged to a local doctor who was known to be careful about his equipment so we assume it will likely work properly with servicing but we can not and do not guarantee this. This check embossing machine was bought NEW from the Paymaster salesman- a really nice old guy who sold them door to door during the 60’ s and 70’ s. It was a very long time ago and I remember that he would stop by every few months to visit and to clean and ink the machine. This went on for 15-20 years. He would never take payment. But settled for a coffee and a chat. Personal sales follow up is not as common these days. The machine needs a routine service. But it still prints and embosses properly.
