Antique Hoole Mach. & Engraving Works Bookbinder Printing Press Hand Stamp Tool
Very Nice Antique Hoole Machine& Engraving Works Bookbinder Hand Press Tool I found this very old Hoole bookbinding hand press tool at an estate sale. It's in amazing condition for it's age. I didn't know what it was until I researched it and found Hoole Machine& Engraving Works were the most prolific bookbinding toolmakers of their day. They were established in 1932 and stayed in business until 1911 in Brooklyn N.Y. This is Hoole hand stamp No.1407. I found this information out on a website of the Davistown Museum. They have a chart showing the different hand stamps that Hoole made. I believe the metal is bronze as it's non-ferrous and doesn't attract to a magnet. Baltimore-an # 9 Platen Letterpress Hand Inking Printing Press Late 19th Cent
Turn of the Century Letterpress A wonderful turn of the century letterpress marked"Baltimore No. 9" with most of its original black paint and gold trim detail. This letterpress is hand operated with a lever and the plate measures 3 5/8" x about 2 5/8" Overall in very good aged condition with a good deal of dust as well as some rust in places it is in need of a proper cleaning if it is to be used. The spring loaded holders for the roller are functional and when the lever is depressed for printing the roller will move up to be re-inked. A fantastic collectible either for use or display. Its largest dimensions are nearly 8" tall. 14" long, 6" wide, and weighs over 6 pounds. It also has a screw hole on either side of the lever as it is meant to be mounted on a desk. ANTIQUE 17x22 WASHINGTON HAND LETTERPRESS PRINTING PRESS BOOK BINDING BINDERS
You are looking at an Impossibly Hard to Find 19th century. Very Small Size Washington Hand Printer's Proof Press. This press was manufactured by the Paul Shniedewend& Co. Chicago, IL. This press is a true museum piece. A real antique. This press was used to print proofs of Bewick blocks for the Newberry Library. Chicago. This Washington press is the only one for sale on eBay! 120+ YRS. OLD. VERY HARD TO FIND SMALL PRESS, 66" TALL The press is only 66" tall. It has a 17" x 22" image area. There is no Tympan or Frisket with this press. If this is a problem for you call me before bidding. I have made them before with good results. All the parts on the press are original as they came from the factory. Except for the 1 leg with the square foot, that I fabricated. As I assembled this press I found that all the parts ... morefit nice and snug. This press have seen light usage and has not been abused throughout the years. This press has a wooden rounce and leather straps to move the bed in and out. Not gears as in the newer model. I would estimate it was manufactured in the 19th century. Probably in the early 1890's. I have checked the bed and platen for flatness with a precision straight edge using.003 brass shims. They show a slight low spot in the central region about 8" in diameter of between.0005& 001. This is a gradual taper and very well could have come from the factory, like this 120 years ago. These both were not ground with a Blanchard type of grinder. This press in much older, with a low 3 digit serial number. This slight low area should not present any problems on your average job. There are no smashes per say. It will be hard to find a better example of this machine. The factory scribed two lines that find the dead center of the bed. For layout purposes. There are also some other small scratches that were accidentally left in the bed, but are similar to the layout marks and will present no problem in printing. I dismantled the machine. Looks to be in great condition everything moves easily push forward and drops into the ink pad. Cover lifts up, pull back drops onto the card. Is made of cast iron and wood, the plate that holds the letters snaps off and is marked, Patented Mar,5,01- Jan. 5. 04, Mar,24,03- Aug 2,04. with a date as shown in picture 10. ITEM DESCRIPTION: This sale is for the smallest‘Printing Press’ that I have ever seen. Complete with a very tiny Type Box or Case, with a lid, FULL of very small printers type, see picts. It may also have been called a‘Marker and Card Press’ based on a similar advertisement found while I was researching on eBay. The small Printing Press/Printers Press. Is approx. 2 1/8 inches tall, 2 3/4 inches long and 1 3/8 inches wide, see picts. It has a cast metal base, with a silver colored container to hold the type that is approx. 2 inches long. There is what looks like a brass tube surrounded by a large‘spring’ with a wood handle top, see picts. The wooden top is embossed/marked and believe it reads, Patented Feb. 21 1871” see picts. The type will sit into the silver colored portion. With the screw end tightened to hold them in place. The type would be inked somehow and then the wood handle is pushed down to impress the type, see picts. I believe that the box and Printing Press go together.
