ANTIQUE 1800 S PRINTING COPPER PLATE church lithograph for book primative print
This is a beautiful lithograph etching or engraving on copper plate used to print christmas cards or a book plate.It is the image of a church with people outside,one is holding two baskets the other is holding a book,their clothing is period 1800 or earlier.This is part of an estate collection by Clifford Brown,if there is any interest in these i will list more of this beautiful art.This 4 1/4 x 7(aprox) inch printing plate,i am told dated in the 1800 s but could be much older as some of the plates were passed down from another generation. It is very hard to photograph these plates,they are much nicer then shown here. No attempt to clean this item.It still has original black ink. Stunning addition to your collection. HISTORY: Engraving Main article: Engraving by. One of the most important printmakers. The process was developed in Germany ... morein the 1430s from the engraving used by to decorate metalwork. Engravers use a hardened steel tool called a to cut the design into the surface of a metal plate. Traditionally made of copper. Engraving using a burin is generally a difficult skill to learn. Gravers come in a variety of shapes and sizes that yield different line types. The burin produces a unique and recognizable quality of line that is characterized by its steady. Deliberate appearance and clean edges. Other tools such as mezzotint rockers, roulettes(a tool with a fine-toothed wheel) and burnishers(a tool used for making an object smooth or shiny by rubbing) are used for texturing effects. To make a print. The engraved plate is inked all over, then the ink is wiped off the surface, leaving only ink in the engraved lines. The plate is then put through a high-pressure printing press together with a sheet of paper(often moistened to soften it) The paper picks up the ink from the engraved lines, making a print. The process can be repeated many times; typically several hundred impressions(copies) could be printed before the printing plate shows much sign of wear, except when. Which gives much shallower l

c.1920 Set of 2 Antique Copper Etched Printing Plates
Set of two copper printing plates. Both made circa 1924. The first is an advertisement for the Philadelphia Truss Rod Co. detailing the manner in which their product can prevent hernias. The piece measures 2.5" wide, 3.75" long, and 1" tall. The copper has a wooden block onto which it's mounted. The engraving is in excellent condition, still readily legible, with very little oxidizing. The other plate depicts two workers in some sort of factory. There is slight wear on this piece, mostly around the edges. It's a difficult piece to get an accurate photograph of, but the piece is largely in good condition. It measures 5.25" x 4.25" MB2-4. My scale computes to the nearest gram and it has been tested and calibrated. All my items are measured with a standard tape measure and are rounded off to the quarter inch. I attempt to be as accurate as possible. But odd surfaces can prove difficult sometimes as I lack a pair of calipers. I do not take apart or clean anything after listing an item. Antique Vintage Wood Copper Printing Printers Block Knife press tin industrial
This auction is for a very old printing block. It is wood with a metal top for the image/letters. I believe the metal is copper but I do not know that for sure. It has the color of copper and some oxidation so that is why I am leaning that way. It is a butter knife. The block measures 5.5 inches long and 1.5 inches wide to the furthest points and is approx. 1 inch thick.

This lot includes a print block and what appears to be the matching photo in an Art Deco type frame. The frame measures about 6" tall and appears to be in fine condition although there's rust and wear on the metal edge pieces of the frame. The block measures a little over 3 3/4" tall and is found in used condition. It shows some wear and scratches on the plate. And a good deal of inking on the wood. Antique Newspaper Printing Press Copper Stamp of Lawrence Eagle Tribune, Mass
From an estate of many different printing press stamps. All from the same newspaper, the Lawrence Eagle Tribune in Massachusetts. Really cool pieces that are very well made, with lots of detail and artistry. These blocks are late 19th century. This particular stamp has a copper plate on top of blackened wood. The bottom side of the wood has"Black? written on it( referring to letters I can't make out) The stamp reads"Haverhill Commandery" up top. And down below, Haverhill Mass" The stamp has a really cool depiction of a knight and a harbor with lots of detail. The stamp block measures 5 7/8" x 4 3/8" The plate is held on with 4 screws. Three of which are still in place. The top left corner of the plate appears to be snapped off, but the rest of the block is still intact, so it may have been made that way. ... moreHard to say.
