Vintage 1940s Monarch Pathfinder Collectible Marking Price Tag Ticket Machine A unique Antique Collectible from the 1940's used to mark price stickers. It moves by cranking the handle. The handle moves easily in a circular motion and it moves like it should. There does not appear to be any ink or inking mechanism and there are not any price stickers. It is quite heavy at approximately 10 pounds and is about 10" tall and 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" at the base. Lots of dies left in the front drawer. It is a neat looking Art Deco Style piece. CUMMINS INITIAL MACHINE J.B. MAST HAT MARKING MACHINE Pat 1889 works well
The brass label reads"Cummins' Initial Machine. Pat Aug. 20, 1889, July 29, 1890. Nov. 29 1892 Manufactured by the B. F. Cummins Co. exclusively for the J. B. MAST Co. New York. This is a machine used to mark hat bands. It has an alphabet dial that controls a series of pins in a 5x6 grid to make letter shaped perforations. I've tested it out on paper and it seems to work very well. Some of the holes that the pins slide through were stiff at first but I cleaned some obstructions with a paper clip and now they're all sliding. The wooden handle that levers the machine down is in excellent shape and the unit has quite a bit of attractive gold highlights and green pinstripes left intact. I chose not polish up the name plate but I don't see any reason it would take a shine if someone wanted to. I took one photo of the holes ... morethat the pins slide through. i had to hold back a spring loaded lid which traps debris from the marking process. That is there and the spring is strong if anyone who is familiar with these i wondering. This weighs a fair amount maybe 15 lbs or so i'm guessing that $20 will about cover it within the continental US. It would make a great companion to your hat collection or an addition to your collection of odd old machines. It's quite nicely designed, I didn't really do it justice with my photos. The alphabet goes counter clockwise around the dial which surprised me, I can't think of a reason except that this way you turn the handle clockwise to go up, it just looks odd having the letter go backwards.
