Vintage Cast Iron Book Binding Press
Vintage book binding press. Has some detail trim paint left and it works fine. One of the cast mounting loops is missing(see photo of bottom) It is 17" wide x 11" deep x 12-15" high and the maximum opening size is 2.5" It is very heavy. About 75lbs and has to be shipped freight(UPS works good) Please ask any questions you would like. Thanks for looking. Check out my other items. I only try to break even on the shipping. Press has been modified and the turn screw is no longer attached to the platen column(The liquid in the socket in the picture is WD-40) The column can be easily removed and the platen can also be raised and removed. There is also a socket in the platen below the column. This allows for extra thick materials. The red box in photo#6 shows sections(One each side) that can be removed to lower the overall height. It appears to have original paint and is in amazing condition. The previous owner said it's been in her family and never restored. I can't find anything to indicate otherwise during close inspection. It weighs 70 plus pounds and is working mechanism is smooth. It is a focal point piece for you library or your cast iron collection. If you know anything about these presses. Antique 1800's Cast Iron Book Binding Nipping Copy Press Collectible Nice Detail
You are bidding on an Exceptional antique Book Binding Press. Copy Press or"nipping press. In cast iron with some of the original ornate decorative gold and green paint intact. This model appears to be rare in size and style. This press has not been re-touched- what you see is the original condition. We barely dusted with a soft cloth to help show detail. The top plate measures 10 1/4" x 13 1/16" The bottom pressing area is 13 5/8" x 15 1/2" The press opening is 2 5/8" It is in excellent working condition. And there is no structural damage. The hand crank turns smoothly and easily- the plate presses extremely tight. There is some surface chipping to the paint and on the inner surface between plates- as seen in the photographs. The brass nut on top of the hand crank does not appear original& one of the guide ... moretabs is missing from the top plate. This does not affect the smooth openining and closing of the press. Nor does it affect the tightness of it's closure. I am not an expert in book binding equipment, but am happy to answer questions. This great machine needs a wonderful loving home! The most I can tell you is the following This cool press looks to be converted into a vulcanizer for making rubber molds.But. I can not be positive. It has a manufacturer name of Howe Trademark in red as pictured.faded. But still legible. This press weighs a hefty 82 pounds! The press has aluminum plates that are attached to the under side. When plugged in and the dial is turned, the plates begin to warm up. At about 3 minutes after turning the device on. A terrific vintage industrial cast iron press. Large and in nice condition, the wheel turns to raise and lower the top plate very easily with one finger. The wheel has six spokes and appears hand cast. We see a raised number'5367' on one of the spokes else no other visible markings to indicate maker, a couple of possible places incl. a mark in the very center of the wheel but it's not legible. Antique/Vintage Cast Iron Book Binding Press Industrial Steam Punk Flower Reno
This is a cast iron book press. I'm not sure of the age. But it's an oldie. It's 18 1/2" long x 10 1/4" wide x 11 1/2" tall. It doesn't have the bottom plate. But it still can be attached to your workbench with long bolts. A bottom plate can easily be made out of a plank of wood, or a piece of metal with machined holes. There is some rust on the bottom of the plate. A small piece of metal has broken off the bottom of one of the vertical arms, and there is a small crack on the bottom of the other one.

Rare book binding gold leaf gilding brass type holder tool, binder hand pallet
This unique old book binder's tool was for holding typeface and then gently heated to impress gold gilded titles on book bindings. Quite unusual and hard to find! Measures 10" across and works smoothly. The heavy brass has not been cleaned up and retains its time-gathered patina. Nice wooden handle that has some scorching from being too close to the flame when heated. Overall a very nice tool in its original state of preservation.

Here's a very LARGE& HEAVY book press. It has some surface rust. But otherwise in great shape. The press would clean up nice with a wire brushing& fresh paint. The base measures 26" x 18" The press plate measures 20" x 16" As well as I could measure the press screw is 2 1/2" diameter and the handle is 19" wide. I was going to use it for a veneer press for small panels, but it's just too heavy to move around easily. I checked it over and could not find any cracks or chips. PLEASE NOTE: I work out of town and get home at least twice a month for 3 day weekends. The location is Plover, WI 54467. Found in a local estate which had the basement full of printing block cabinets. Presses, thousands of wood print blocks and so much more that had been untouched for many years, this item is just one of the many that I acquired. Marked on one side of the cast iron stands is GOLDING MF'G Co/ FRANKLIN. MASS. and on the other PAT. JAN. 9. 85. This is clearly an early item from the renowned printing press& tool company from Massachusetts. This item is one that would have been mounted/ secured to a table and it is constructed out ... moreof heavy cast iron and wood. The cast iron is in good condition given its age and there is only very light surface rust in a couple of areas. The hand turning style pressing mechanism turns easily and very smoothly as the threaded bar is clean and free of any rust or debris. The two solid hardwood planks which are secured to the cast iron are also in relatively good condition. The wood is very clean and smooth to the touch however it has darkened over the years and as shown in the photographs, there are areas of staining which I am assuming was caused by an adhesive material back when this item was used. There are a couple of small cracks in the wood towards the lower portion where the screws are inserted into the wood but these are old cracks and there is no sign that the wood will further crack. The cast iron is also very clean to the touch as I have given this item a thorough cleaning(but not to the extent that any'character' was taken away) and the only damage to the cast iron can be seen in picture number 10. There is a clean break in the cast iron which I am assuming would effect the use of this item however because it is a clean break, a repair of this area would

Great antique hand made and ornate cast iron 1860's Book Binding Press
You are looking at a great antique hand made and ornate cast iron 1860's Book Binding Press. The press weighs approximately 50 pounds and the overall length is 13" long 12" wide and 13" tall if closed. The plate does not freely move up and down and there is some damage to one of the stands(but all screw holes are intact) The grey and yellow paint seems to be original. There is some oxidation that could be removed by sandblasting the press.it would look amazing if restored. Especially since the ornaments are rare on such presses. You are looking at an Impossibly Hard to Find 19th century. Very Small Size Washington Hand Printer's Proof Press. This press was manufactured by the Paul Shniedewend& Co. Chicago, IL. This press is a true museum piece. A real antique. This press was used to print proofs of Bewick blocks for the Newberry Library. Chicago. This Washington press is the only one for sale on eBay! 120+ YRS. OLD. VERY HARD TO FIND SMALL PRESS, 66" TALL The press is only 66" tall. It has a 17" x 22" image area. There is no Tympan or Frisket with this press. If this is a problem for you call me before bidding. I have made them before with good results. All the parts on the press are original as they came from the factory. Except for the 1 leg with the square foot, that I fabricated. As I assembled this press I found that all the parts ... morefit nice and snug. This press have seen light usage and has not been abused throughout the years. This press has a wooden rounce and leather straps to move the bed in and out. Not gears as in the newer model. I would estimate it was manufactured in the 19th century. Probably in the early 1890's. I have checked the bed and platen for flatness with a precision straight edge using.003 brass shims. They show a slight low spot in the central region about 8" in diameter of between.0005& 001. This is a gradual taper and very well could have come from the factory, like this 120 years ago. These both were not ground with a Blanchard type of grinder. This press in much older, with a low 3 digit serial number. This slight low area should not present any problems on your average job. There are no smashes per say. It will be hard to find a better example of this machine. The factory scribed two lines that find the dead center of the bed. For layout purposes. There are also some other small scratches that were accidentally left in the bed, but are similar to the layout marks and will present no problem in printing. I dismantled the machine. Working Antique Wooden Book-Binding Press- Fully-functioning! You're viewing a gorgeous. Large, antique book-binding press which is of solid wood& iron construction. I purchased this working press from Beckham's Books in the French Quarter(New Orleans) The owner said that he'd owned this press for about 15 years& had purchased it from Xavier University, of New Orleans, which is historically, the only Catholic, African-American university in the country. Unfortunately, we currently have no documentation to prove this information, but it's an interesting st ory. All the same. I can not date this press, but it does appear to ... morehave been hand-made. CONDITION: All descriptions below can be viewed in the photos. As with any antique. This press shows signs of use but it is absolutely a solid, sound structure. Personally, I find that its mild blemishes give it that much more character. One of the vertical rails(where the iron handle connects to the press) appears to have had a bit of wood sheered off many, many years ago, but it does not affect the functionality or beauty of this piece. The lower right leg(under the lower book plate) seems to have a fracture, but it is in no way wobbly. The wood on the base book plate has separated over the years. It looks like this press was painted several years ago, when it was likely still in use. The paint has since worn away in many spots& has revealed that the underlying wood appears to have a design painted on both sides of the vertical rails. All iron hardware shows signs of rust, but is very solid. With some fresh grease, the press handle now spins to fully open& fully closed positions. Wow! What a great piece. Highly decorative and unusually large! The handle doesn't turn but I didn't try to hard to move it. A little WD40 and elbow grease and it'll surely free. Just a great piece. Offering a pair of framed plates from a 19th century book binding catalog. With beautiful book binding patterns. Each page is identified as being"Middle Ages No. 2" pattern; also written in both French and German-see photo for detail. The prints were matched plates in the catalog, with both labeled as Plate LXVII. Each plate displays a number of different patterns in beautiful colors; golds, rose, crimsons, green, blues and black. I have included photos of each print separately, as well as detailed photos of the designs within each plate. They look wonderful displayed side by side on a wall. Both plates are framed with matching simple mahogany colored frames under glass. They are the same size. We have here a Vintage Cast Iron. Steel and Wood Adjustable Book Binding Press. The arms are steel. The base and screw portion is cast iron and the plates/blocks are wood. This was used for glue. There is old hardened residue on the wood blocks. It measures 23 3/4" to top of arms. 18" wide at adjustable height arm. 15" wide base. Wood block/plates are 12 1/2" by 7" It works smoothly. All screws turn and adjustable arms work. Blocks need a cleaning as they have glue residue. There is overall wear do to use.
