Antique Kelsey Excelsior 3 x 5 Inch Letterpress Printing Press + Bonus Typeset
Up for auction is a really cool antique 3 x 5 inch Excelsior printing press by Kelsey& Co. of Meriden. Connecticut. Also a set of very fancy font type in a wooden type set box. One picture illustrates how ornate the lettering is, it reminds me of calligraphy. I don't know the letter model of the press for sure so I will describe everything in detail in conjunction with the many pictures I provided. It weighs 24 pounds and is made of cast iron with a black coat of paint and some painted gold lettering as well as a couple gold designs. The base measures 11.5 inches, the entire press is roughly 20 inches long including the protruding part behind the plate and the plate diameter is 5 7/8 inches. The patent date states is was patented April, 6, 1893. The'9' digit is hard to make it and I can't be positive that t is a'9' ... morebut I believe so)Following that there are patent numbers for England, France and Germany. The pictures should include enough angles so you can see all of the hardware. The press opens and closes like it should. But the rectangle that should hold the type tilts slightly and the two rectangles aren't perfectly parallel when the handle is pressed down and they separate. However, when you close the press they eventually become flush but it doesn't make initial square contact. It appears something just needs to be tightened or adjusted(pictures 4& 5) The sections where the rollers should be pivot down over the plate when the handle is pushed down. The plate spins freely when I move it but operating the press doesn't rotate it automatically. Condition: This was stored in a barn for decades. It needs a little TLC. You can plainly see there is plenty of surface rust but the black coat of paint over the cast iron is largely intact. The rust isn't deep or pitted, just on the surface. Some of the gold lettering and detail has worn or rusted over, but again it is largely intact. Cosmetically the iron is in wonderful condition and the mechanics seem to be functioning.

This is an Antique"make your own stamp" or easy copy a 4 line text could be still usable today with some ink. Dating back to the very early 1900's this German typeset is about complete with 2 stamps& the Pincer. It was easy transportable and I suspect it was used during the first World War. It comes in the original Tin box that opens threefold giving easy access to the ink pat and letters. The letter drawer is removable. The tin box measures about 7 x 3.1/2" or 18 x 9 cm. Vintage wooden typeset printing letter shadow box antique drawer.
Vintage type set drawer made into a wall mount shadow box. Size is 32 1/2" X 19" X 2" thick. I believe the wood is oak with a dark stain. There are a few broken pieces inside the little squares. See pictures. This drawer is dusty and shows ware as it should for a 90 plus year old item. This has been in my garage for years and was also used to hold little bolts. Screws and stuff before it was made into a wall hanging in my den. Two eye hooks and frame wire attached on back for hanging.

not really sure about this antique cabinet. I know that it is an antique typset/letterpress cabinet for typeset letters. I don't know if this is a home made printers cabinet or not. it is definitely a cool unique piece and a true barn find. it needs a good cleaning, all drawers are complete with all the dividers. it is a 11 drawer cabinet. the back does not have all boards but is still in good sturdy condition. this unique one of a kind find measures 21" wide x 33" tall x 12 3/4" deep. you wont find another like this, im selling as a pick up only item. located in quincy il. please ask any question, I will help and answer to the best of my knowledge. thanks for looking you are bidding on cabinet only! typeset not included
