Estate Copper Etched Printing Plate Block Man Bathing Suit Smoking Tobacco Pipe This antique Copper Etched printing block/plate was just purchased at a local estate sale. The block is made of very old wood and measures just about 4" by 2 3/8" It is just shy of 1" thick. On top of the wood are 2 different layers of metal. The first layer seems to be iron or steel and the top layer is copper. Etched into the top copper layer is a man wearing a bathing suit which seems to be the style of the early 1900's. He is standing on the beach and smoking a pipe. I am assuming this was some type of advertisement. But I am not sure for what. There are some dark spots which may be leftover ink and a couple of scratches upon close inspection. I do not see any major damage or dents to the metal. Of course, I do not have access to a printing ... morepress, so I have not been able to print this. As I said this is an estate purchase and I am describibg it to the best of my ability. This is a beautiful lithograph etching or engraving on copper plate used to print christmas cards or a book plate.It is the image of a church with people outside,one is holding two baskets the other is holding a book,their clothing is period 1800 or earlier.This is part of an estate collection by Clifford Brown,if there is any interest in these i will list more of this beautiful art.This 4 1/4 x 7(aprox) inch printing plate,i am told dated in the 1800 s but could be much older as some of the plates were passed down from another generation. The frame measures about 6" tall and appears to be in fine condition although there's rust and wear on the metal edge pieces of the frame. The block measures a little over 3 3/4" tall and is found in used condition. It shows some wear and scratches on the plate. And a good deal of inking on the wood. This printing plate is in nice condition. the engraving/etching is clear with nice details especially in the area of the face. great clothing with intricate patterns. Very unusual. There are areas of printing ink? on the lower right hand edge of the plate. I did not try to remove this for fear of diminishing the antique value by polishing the copper. see pictures. excluding that this is a dramatic plate with great visual impact. Awesome old printing plate mounted on thick wooden board- appears to be a page from a child's school arithmetic page. It has five arithmetic problems. All subtraction with four apples, four rabbits, four balls, three birds and four flowers. Some of the copy reads"Here are_ apples. Take away 1 apple. How many apples are left? apples. It also appears to have a page number of 51. There's also a couple of lines of instructions to the teacher at the bottom, like instructing them to say"take away" It's really cute and very nice- measures approximately 10 inches high and 7 inches wide mounted on an approximate 1 inch thick board- ready to hang. Very good condition. It is heavy. Weighing about 4 pounds. Looks like copper, but looks like it is mostly a steel with either copper or brass wording/animals added to steel. Antique Copper Tray Wedding Invitation Engraved Printing Plate dated 1915 NY
For Auction; This is an interesting find. This item is a small heavy gauge copper tray measuring 7 inches long by 6 inches wide by 1 inch tall. The tray has cut and folded corners with a curled lip edge and has 4 round ball feet on the bottom. The interesting item is that this tray was reverse-engraved in Script Wedding Invitation and was used as a printing plate. The lettering is hard to discern with all of the fancy script writing(in reverse) but have manage to determine it was a wedding invitation or something similar and is dated 1915 in New York. The other interesting thing is the ball feet; they are somehow attached to the plate but do not penetrate the plate and must be contact welded or something to that effect. A pretty neat item. In great condition.
